A reprimand would have easily been enough.

No one who hates the Mavs would feel bad about a Mavericks player after they lost.

His job is to make the Houston Rockets look GOOD in social media. Not cause controversy that is picked up on ESPN, etc, no matter how innocent it may have seen to Rockets fans.

Don't really care about the tweet myself, but at the same time, I'm not surprised or outraged that the Rockets chose to fire him over it.

I wonder if he was also responsible for tweeting the infamous Rockets pregame huddle where Harden called the Warriors "not even that good." That tweet caused Harden and the Rockets quite a bit of bad publicity. Its one thing to share that moment IF the Rockets had beaten the Warriors, its quite another to share it before the game was decided or after they were beaten.

Don't lie, if Pep were the one tweeting that you'd want him fired and exiled lol.

If that's a fireable offense, Mark Cuban owes millions in unclaimed fines for the things he's said.

I think you are missing moestavern19's point. The simple point is that it made such a controversy in the first place.

Did anything happen to Clyde after he talked about clubbing baby seals? Isn't that arguably worse?

Mavs are likely going to hire him at a higher salary.

Francis roaming around on-court after the game hurt the brand more than this Tweet that nobody will remember.

I knew right away that the social media manager's job was in serious jeopardy when that tweet went viral. So I'm not surprised that he was axed. Many organizations these days are very particular about how they are represented on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/etc.

This firing was simply a PR move by the Rockets. That's it. A move to quickly distance the organization from the manager, in an attempt to minimize any potential damage to the brand's image and reputation. If the tweet hadn't attracted so much "outrage" in the first place then I guarantee that the S.M.M. would still be employed with the Rockets.
