No, I get that, I appreciate your answering the question. Like I said, I had never seen the show, and the quote seemed so out-of-the-blue that I was hoping that it actually did have at least something to do with the context.

Maybe Chad watches the show, I don't know. If it was used as a lifted quote from a show, then that makes it a LITTLE more understandable - in that at least the guy didn't simply come up with the quote from whole cloth straight out of his own imagination as the first thing which popped into his mind when trying to think of something to tweet as we were beating the Mavericks.

But as I said earlier, not having seen any movie or tv show with that quote in it, it just came off as really creepy and kind of icky. I can totally get why people got a 'rapey' vibe from it.

I know that was not his intent, but there is a reason for the existence of the phrase 'Perception is Reality'.

The other thing I am curious about is.. people actually found the tweet funny? I mean as in, actually funny? And I am talking about the little cartoon images combined with the text.. people seriously found that funny? (or was it only the cartoon icons which they found funny, and the text was basically a non-factor perhaps? Would it have been just as funny with no text at all?) Don't get me wrong, I was rejoicing as much as anyone in the Rockets victory and the downfall of the Mavs and the arrogant Cuban.. that was very sweet indeed. But the tweet, at best, made me cringe.

Posted in one of the other threads...this guy was on 610 this morning and they asked him if he'd been reprimanded in the past for previous tweets. He answered yes. His firing may have more to do with past transgressions than that one individual tweet. Maybe as far as the team is concerned, that was the last straw.

I'm outraged you would agree with that article. Did you even read his conclusion?!

    You should be banned.

I agree, Nero. It wasn't very funny. Kinda lame attempt at humor. Had we started a thread at the end taking suggestions on what to post as a tweet, that wouldn't have made top 10 versus what CFnet could have come up with in 5 minutes.

Didn't read the article, but of course they are. I've had to do it before. Once an animal get so old/feeble that it can't walk or eat, what are you supposed to do, let them starve to death? If a cow ruptures something internal while giving birth, or breaks a leg, once the vet says "there's nothing really we can do for it", what then? Is there a big difference between putting down a dog at the vet with a needle, or taking it for one last ride out into the pasture, saying goodbye and doing it with a .22?

Would not be surprised if Les had the guy fired bc his late mother loved horses or whatever. From what I've read he can be quite a petty man, as evidenced by his role in demise of the Aeros.

I don't agree with putting a horse's head there. It should have been Cuban's head.

    Boo, Rockets!

We finally get into the 2nd round and you ruin it by firing someone in the organization? Someone whom the fans like?

To be honest, guys, I didn't see the emojis at first and so the "shh it will all be over soon" did strike me as a rape joke. BUT once I saw the emojis, the context was clear, it had nothing to do with rape. The fault is on the viewer, not Chad.

I thought Chads tweet about "Rubio might be dead" was way more harsh (and funny) lol.

The backpedaling is strong in this one.

I know. Chad Shanks should keep tweeting about the Rockets on his personal account (or he can make a new one) and fans can continue to follow him.

While we unfollow the HOU Rockets account!

you guys are over thinking it. you can't insult your employer/owner and his dead mother and expect everything to be okay.

in this case nothing to see here. no social media witch hunt, no fake outrage, no P.C. Nazis, no rape jokes interpretation, none of it. in fact check again, most people thought it was a bad joke but harmless. no media org or group really went up in arms, not even the mavs. like i said earlier, u can't insult, piss your boss off like that. even unintentionally.

That socialist media is tha debil.

Seriously, I thought it (what he tweeted) was a little much looking at it from a professional perspective, but certainly not something to get fired over for someone doing a great job otherwise. The public recanting should have been enough, and a stern "We appreciate your edge and humor, but we have to be a little more selective as a professional organization so plainly in widespread public view" should have done it.

Still, not shocked, and watching it go nationwide just shows you how fast and far poorly selected thoughts/words can travel today.

I was, as a fan, more bent that he was tweeting about a W before we had it than the rest of it, but wasn't surprised at the "outrage."

Also, I think/agree the gun and the horse were the least of the problem, and had it been the text only, people would have run further with the misogyny angle.

Sucks, but I bet the guy lands a gig soon. Probably regrets it won't be with the Rockets, as that had to be cool and he seemed to enjoy excelling at it, but he'll land on his feet I would imagine.

Unfortunately, I think so. I searched for it far and wide a few months ago. :(

So the Rockets compound the first mistake of the controversial tweet by following that up making a SECOND mistake of overreacting and firing their social media manager when a suspension would have been enough.

    Huh.

I'm thinking this might be less about the "outrage" from the tweet and more about INTERNAL outrage at the tweet? I dunno.

In the meantime, would ANY of this be happening if the weaksauce Mavericks twitter account hadn't responded with their butthurt "Stay Classy Houston" response.

Anyways, I signed the petition. What a shame this has overshadowed the ACTUAL playoff victory. SMH.

I'm not sure what the Rockets fired the guy for. This is Twitter we're talking about, quite possibly the dumbest communications medium in the history of mankind. Creating misunderstandings and outrage is apparently the whole point of what drives it.
