Those quotes are depressing, especially in light of the fact that Morey gave Ryan Anderson a FOUR year guaranteed deal.
Such an approach means accepting volatility. It happens, especially in a season that’s been so injury plagued...
Wrong the rockets offense is built of volume 3s not actually good percentages. The math just works out. They just wanna hit bout 20. Even if it takes them 60 times. The problem is the math isnt as great now that other teams shot alot of 3s now too n better
I won't argue with you, but I still say that for a team whose bread-and-butter is the 3, we don't have a single great 3-point shooter on our entire roster. Harden is the best, and we need to surround him with guys who are even better. That volatility would go down somewhat if we had some guys who were better at making that shot.
Easier said than done. I think the price for a normal shooter is above 5-6 million. Sharpshooters get more, above 10 million even in their primes. Shooters that cannot defend well are the only ones cheap enough.
So I get that last night was especially bad, but if you look at the overall picture, the Rockets have the 2nd best offense in the NBA. That's right, even with all our injuries, with all these crappy 3 point shooters bricking open shots, with Austin Rivers being our second best creator, we still have the second best offense in the NBA. Meanwhile, our defense is 26th out of 30. I really can't say I agree with the posters here that are advocating adding players who are 40%+ shooters from 3 but can't play defense. Is offense really our problem? Do we really want JJ Redick? Redick is an atrocious defender. I remember the last time we tried to pay a 3 point sharpshooter who couldn't pay any defense, I think we gave him 80 million. That didn't work out too well for us. Other than last night, which was terrible, our ortg in the Laker game was 125 and the Brooklyn game was also 125. 125 is an incredible ortg, it would be #1 in the league by a mile. And yet, both of those games went to overtime, and we lost one of them. Any game that we score at that pace should be an easy win. I really think the focus needs to be on defenders. If you give me the choice between a wing who is a great shooter/poor defender or great defender/poor shooter, give me the defender for this team. Our defense is a much bigger problem than our offense.
My biggest question is why? Why if we have chosen to shoot 50-70 3 point shots per game have we not invested in professional shooters? This team needs guys who can make open shots .. consistently. We have alot of all around guys who CAN hit a 3 here and there, but not as a strength of their play. Seems like we are stocked with 12 of the same type of players.
Really hate that we missed on JJ that year. REALLY hate it. Everything would be different now. Gordon would have been trade bait...ugh.
Closest thing we have to a. sharpshooter is Gordon and he is injury prone and wildly inconsistent. Nobody else is a true sharpshooter including Harden. We have a basket full of volume low percentage shooters. I wish we had at least one dead eye.
I mean, we did. Chris Paul, Eric Gordon (recently returned from injury), Ryan Anderson (traded away), Gerald Green, PJ Tucker, Danuel House, Austin Rivers, etc. Health is obviously the biggest question mark. Once we get past the injury bug, whenever the hell that'll be, we should be back to business. For now we have to deal with these up and down shooting stretches.
We need a PF and a wing player....but we also need some good catch and shoot players. Nene/Chriss/Hartenstein/2nd Rounder for Dedmon and Vinsanity: Dedmon: Catch and Shoot 3pt%: 38.7 on 3 attempts per game Carter: Catch and Shoot 3pt%: 38% on 3.3 attempts per game Gordon/Chriss/Hartenstein/1st Rounder for Marvin Williams and Lamb: Marvin Williams: Catch & Shoot 3pt%: 40% on 4.9 attempts per game Jeremy Lamb Catch & Shoot 3pt% 37.8% on 2.8 attempter per game Gordon/Chriss/1st Rounder for Temple and JayMichael: Garrett Temple: Catch and Shoot 3pt%: 38.9 on 3.6 attempts per game JayMichael Green: Catch and Shoot 3pt%: 38% on 2.3 attempts per game
y'all forgot to mention how Dan Toni has a 7-man rotation, of which the top 2 are injured. PJ is tired Nene was never a consistent rotation player due to injuries, but he's still old Faried was good, but still too new to the roster rest of the team was garbage. it's not a huge deal now, the season still has a ways to go. but i'm already worried about what awaits us in the playoffs.
That's the thing. These shooters are coming at a premium now. Even the "elite" shooters such as Kyle Korver... That's quite a price to put on an aging shooter that averages about 9 ppg with 19 minutes per game being his threshold for PT. The only other guy that would be worth a damn on our current squad would be, Kevin Huerter and he cost the Hawks a 19th overall pick in this past year's draft. Maybe we can finagle a guy like Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk from LA for a couple 2nd round picks... but I'm sure the lack of experience on the defensive end will cause De'Tony to firmly place him on the end of the bench. We lack defense right now, as @harold bingo suggested. If we pick up a defensive player or two that can create fast breaks and help ease the defensive burden that our current role players face on a daily basis, it would bode well for our offense.
