Interesting stats: 1. The Rockets are 2nd in offense. 2. The Rockets are 1st in 3p apg. 3. The Rockets are 19th in 3p%. 4. None of our players not named Harden who attempt more than 5 3p apg shoots better than .360. 5. Tucker, House, and Ennis have the highest 3p% on the team. But except for Tucker they don't play a lot.
There's 2 things here: 1) Rockets percentages are deceiving. We're never going to have high percentages because it's become incredibly obvious MDA/Morey believe that if you're hitting over 40% then you're just not shooting enough. We basically tell a player to shoot till they drop down to around 36%. It's not surgical so there will be fluctuations, but that seems to be the target. It is one of the key driving forces of us getting so much out of each offensive possession. 2) Tired legs. Same problem MDA teams have always faced. If you are fatigued, adrenaline can drag you along for a while after a motivational speech, but ultimately if you are tired it will show heavily in your long distance shooting. That's why it's idiotic to act like depth doesn't matter. A few minutes of rest where the player subbing in can just hold the fort is a big deal once you get into the minute necessities of championship basketball.
Live by the three...die by the three. This year we are 17th in percentage of open threes at 37%, last year we were 9th at 40%. When we are not making shots team are just gonna key in on Harden even more, it is what it is. Im even more worried about the defense, its either our bigs cant handle being in a traditional pick and roll or our guys just cant defend someone one on one. Honestly, I'd like to see someone break down our defense this season in a film session. Oh yea, btw we are 25th in rebounding percentage.
I can't remember what thread it was, but @Nook said the Rockets were still looking for and prioritizing shooting in their potential trades. So they know. We'll see what happens.
This has been a problem for years . I think it's just luck at this point . We paid Ryan Anderson 20 million to shoot and he forgot how to as soon as he put on a rockets jersey . Maybe it's our player development team
Deep stats whiz Darrel Maori pours over spreadsheets to identify biggest problem areas, sees team that averages 6.5 more 3-pointers per game than anyone else ranks 19th out of 30 teams at actually making them.
True that. Seriously open shot after open shot. Also drives where no one knows what to do if Harden isn’t the one driving in. Eric looks lost, Green shooting terrible shots and no one making any layups
I’m right there with you. Can’t stand that we run an offense based on 3 point shooting but have only a few guys that can hit the shot. Tucker is a great role player, for example, but his 3 point shot is inconsistent, and his lack of scoring is really hurting the team. He had one breakout game but is now back to his usual non-contributing games offensively. That won’t cut it. EG, man has his game declined. Dude whines about every non-call and lays brick after brick. Honestly, I would package him in a trade in a heartbeat. On top of being inconsistent he’s injury prone and not reliable. What other player on this team can shoot beside CP3? Not one other sharpshooter. That’s it. So then it’s all about defense and we know that’s a sore spot since we’re the shortest damn team in the league with several aging injury prone player.
Eg, just had a 30 point game on good shooting last game, I think inconsistent is the word you are looking for.
What he said. If I didn't know any better, I'd figure this is a thread from 2017 or 2016, 2015, 2014 or some previous year. Tell me something new. For a team that loves to shoot threes, they sure do love their bricklayers. Remember when they had J.J. Redick in their grasp but changed the offer? “They offered four [years] and then they went three. The day before free agency, I thought it was a four-year deal. Chris Paul and I talked for about 30 minutes the night before free agency started. I wanted to go there. “[It didn’t work out] – some of it was numbers and some of it was other factors like relocating the family and – I hate to say this – but you never know with Daryl and how he operates. A three-year deal could really be a six-month deal if you get dealt at the trade deadline for a superstar as part of a package of six.” Or when @jacoby mentioned Seth Curry (signed for a little over $2.5M) and everyone mocked him. Kyle Korver available multiple times through the past few years They did have Troy Daniels for a cup of coffee before trading him for Corey Sewer.
