The Rockets haven't done anything. Last year when Yao went down everyone had written them off, said they wouldn't make the playoffs. Tmac put the team on his shoulders and kept the boat afloat. They even steam rolled into the playoffs (won the last 7 games) and were even favored against the Jazz who were struggling. And what did they do? Manage to go 2-0 up then fail to show up in first two Jazz home games. In game 3 they scored 67 points and shot 39% from the field. Then they went on to lose game 7 at home after fighting during the end of the season to get home court advantage. Two seasons before that? They went up 2-0 against the Mavs and managed to lose by 40 points in the final game. The teams the media tends to give respect to are those that have done something. San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, Detroit, Phoenix, even Cleveland have won championships, reached the finals or the conference finals. Until the Rockets do likewise they won't get any respect and would only be a good regular season team. They also have two superstars who haven't done anything yet. As we have all heard ad nauseum, both Yao and Tmac have yet to get out of the first round. Teams like the Lakers and Boston have superstars that have at least reached the conference finals (although KG got a lot of help that year he did it and had not gotten out of the first round prior to that and still doesn't get the same flak as Tmac but that's another story). Until our stars prove that they can lead a team past the playoffs the media has every right to be skeptical despite Tmac averaging some of the best playoff numbers in history. With all that said, some of doubts are unwarranted. Jon Barry saying we have yet to beat a quality team and Charles and Kenny with their BS is really uncalled for and shows bias against the Rockets. I still don't know why so much posters take them so seriously.
I don't care if they give us, nor do I want their respect. The media takes a big dump in our face all year and all we can come up with is, " Why don't you like us? " I like the disrespect. It makes victory even sweeter, and makes the experts look ignorant ass hell. We don't need to look for respect we are taking it everytime we kick another team in the arse. F the respect I'd rather have the wins.
you have your seasons confused. they won the last seven games the year they got beat by Mavs. last year, they won five in a row, then lost the last game of the season to the team that would eventually knock them out in seven more, the Jazz... either way, I wouldnt bring up Kevin Garnett, or even the Lakers in this argument... KG advanced to further rounds, what, one season? what have the Lakers done since they lost to the Pistons in the Finals? Pau Gasol is winless in ALL playoff games. Kobe and Phil havent got out of the FIrst round since Shaq left! Cleveland? swept Dallas? CHOKED
The Rockets first 2 championships were all about "No respect"......they had a massive chip on their shoulders over it.... Let's hope this team has the same. DD
This isn't the BCS or the NCAA tournament. Media respect won't get us into the playoffs. As long as we keep winning I don't care if they put us at 30 in the power rankings and call us the worst team of all time.
join the club, the media sucks *** when it comes to giving us our props! it pisses me off about what barry recently said and made an example of SA for quality wins, then the spurs go and lose to a team that we took out easily by 15 or something. i will never respect barry again and take everything he says with a grain of salt.
My bad i did get my seasons mixed up with regards to winning the final seven. But they were on a roll last season to close off the season and only lost to the Jazz in the final game of the season because Yao and Mc Grady didnt play. They were favored against the Jazz since the Jazz were struggling to close off the season. And they came up short. With regards to KG, I share your sentiment but the fact still remains he got out of the first round and thats all that matters to the media, the fact that he did do it even if it was once. And with the lakers i agree that they havent done anything since Shaq left. In fact, I'll be the first one to point that out. But Kobe has still won a championship and in the media's eyes proven that if you surround him with the right players the Lakers can go somewhere. Dont get me wrong i dont agree with the media's perception of the Rockets. I believe that they dont give the Rockets enough credit. Case in point, is everyone trying to convince themselves that the Rockets winning streak means nothing when its the seventh best in NBA history. I was just trying to make the point that until they advance in the playoffs they would never get any respect.
Oh yeah and Dallas and Cleveland still did make the finals even if they didnt actually do anything once they got there.
Why are we demanding of attention? That might give the team the false sense of security that they are good enough to coast the way through. Id rather see people bashin my Rockets and see the Rockets silence them with wins as they have been doing
Enough of these threads. We're not going to get any respect until we win a playoff series. The sooner we all come to terms with that, the better.
because it's just cluttering up the board. When the Rockets lose, everybody whines about our players and coaches, yet, when the Rockets win, the whining continues, this time directed at the media. Be thankful the Rockets are finally being talked about again in the media in this way, negative or positive.
I think the media gets burnt out because sometimes the rockets are overrated. Yao started in the all-star game in his first year, hollinger picks us to win it all when we have a new coach, system, and players, and people always picked us as a dark horse to win it all when we didn't have any decent role players. We have somewhat underacheived in the past so they will just discount everything they see until we win a playoff series with tmac and yao. At least we can count on the Nuggets to be in the media dog house if they keep it up, maybe even Phoenix and Dallas if they play any worse.
