[The Ringer] Amen Thompson Has Become a Shape Shifting Nightmare

We may not have a go-to scorer on the Rockets, but with Amen on the court, neither does the other team.

 

The most insane (and cool) think for me about Amen's athleticism is he's not the only one on the team, so you get to see actually just exactly how insane he actually is in comparison. Ja looks amazing jumping out of the gym when there's noone else really doing it like that with the Grizzlies. We've got Cam who absolutely flies, but we've also got Jalen and Amen makes both of those guys look average in comparison with how explosive he is. Jalen Green next to 99.999999% of everybody else in the league makes them look the way Amen makes Jalen look. That blows my mind every time you blink and he's rocket-shoesed his way into a block you could blink and miss. He really is just a whole tier above what we normally see, Jalen to my eyes is around about the peak we're used to seeing from graceful/athletic leapers, Amen's like some weird mix between angry young Westbrook and prime Bron but better which should seem ridiculous when you type it out, but actually doesn't seem enough to do it justice. Incredible.

Yeah, it's wild how so many NBA players are coming out being so high on him. LeBron, Steph, Draymond, De'Aaron Fox, etc.

 

Fantastic article. I love Amen. He’s a dog. Just a hard working blue collar player; perfect for H-Town.

 

They have some really good basketball writers and podcasters. Particularly enjoy Kirk Goldberry, and they got Zach Lowe back! It so royally sucked not to have him write and podcast during the most enjoyable Rockets season in quite some time.

I don’t care for Bill Simmons and his over the top Boston homerism, but there is a lot of other good basketball content there.

 

Simmons IMO is a victim of being too much Simmons; was a lot better before his ‘star turn’.

 

Not Wosney Lombre. He's a clown. I remember when the Rockets went on their 6 game losing streak, he proudly proclaimed that he saw it coming and that the Rockets were playing above their heads the whole time. "This who they really are and they can't be taken seriously." Also doing All-Star selections, he said "PSHHHHHH" when the other 2 guys mentioned Sengun. He's a hater. Listening to him now, it seems to pain him to say anything nice about the Rockets and their players.
