Thanks for all the updates prlen. Keep up the good work.

It sounds to me like Yao will fit in very well. 20 points on 8 shots...that's incredible.

yao, not bad, slam twice when he was being triple teamed.
if he bulk up ,he could get 40pts .

    but so what!
he is No1 pick, it is his job.

flip twice ,it is his job also:)
    aus player tore his jerseys£¡

They should have traded down for Caron Butler and a first next year. This guy is playing against teams that are behind the WNBA much less the CBA...

Thanks prlen... nice job. You and windandsea are doing us a great service. This board would be completely devoid of real basketball info if it weren't for you guys right now.

Rice Rocket, our 1st rd. pick next year belongs to the Grizz so we'd only be trading for Butler who is only 6'5" so I don't think he would have made a good fit for the Rocks especially since we have Nachbar now anyway.

prlen, GREAt updates! I was damn near on the edge of my seat scrolling to the nest posts! 20 pts on 8 shots is awesome. If he can just score 12-13 on 8 attempts next year I will be pleased.

We don't need Jay, give me Yao!

RiceRocket,The teams that you have mentioned do have some players who have either played in the NBA or played against NBA players.Of course the standard is much lower than the NBA but they are not weaker than the WNBA teams, although it's possible that some of the CBA players could possibly do better than some of the players that Ming has faced.

No win situation for Ming. If he played well, these people would say he was playing against scrubs. If he happened to play not well enough, these people would say I told you so. Even if we assume austrialian players are 'scrubs' (I think it was stupid to call players on a national team scrubs though), Ming was double-teamed or triple-teamed all game long and I am also sure the austrailain team coach had their game plan geared to contain Ming. Can the other NBA teams afford to do so? I dont think any NBA teams would double-teamed or triple-teamed Shawn Bradley and have their game plan geared to defend him. By the way, Shawn Bradley has been playing for the German national team. Did we hear any news that he was dominant in the international competitions? Last question, who did the other NBA draftees play against in college anyway? Did they play against players better than the 'scrubs' of the austrialian national team?

Ricerocket :You have a Bee in your Bonet ! You are very anti Ming or anti Orientals because you are forming your anti opinions based upon minimal data. Yao must have his chance to come here and then the truth will be slowly revealed. Lets give him a chance!!

Great points RocketForever. Here are Bradley's stats for Germany in international competition. 41.7% FG, 4.6 points, 3.57 rebounds, 14.28 minutes/game.

    Yao is NOT Bradley!

    Exactly.

Also, notice that their arguments are not very well thought out, organized, or elaborate.

Love the Yao updates. Good job fellas.
On the filp side, all the speculation about whether Yao will be good or not and what the rockets should have done, who they shouild have drafted, blah blah is irrelavant. The rockets drafted Yao. Let;s give the guy a chance.

The funny thing is that the same people ripping the competition overseas, think that players who come out of high school are "more prepared". Lets see, Ming who played professional basketball overseas isn't ready, but Rashard Lewis and Jonathan Bender were ready!? And those guys didn't NEARLY get trashed as much as Ming. I really think a lot of the extreme ant-Ming stuff comes from him coming from another country and people having not seen him. Some same people who were excited to get Griffin thing Ming will be a bust even though Griffin isn't as prepared as Ming is.

As a proud Australian, i will readily admit that our team is not up to nba standards. But to call them scrubs is a totally wrong (tho it pains me, i will concede some players don't deserve the roster spot). The team that lost to NZ (i still don't know how... maybe 'cause they chose something like 14 F/C & 2 G... idiots) was shredded more efficiently than @Enron (;)).

There are some players who could make the NBA, if in the right situation (like most players). Many foreign players don't "hang around" in the states aging while "waiting for another chance". Rather they get good dollars in a non-US league (Europe, Israel, Asia, Australia... if not their home country) and a shot at being "the man"

So to conclude, please stop being xenophobic (do you know what the word means? "unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples") and making baseless attacks on people of other countries (and their Bball teams!). Ming is going to be "the goods", and like with the justice system, he deserves the right to be "considered a player until proven otherwise" given what he has shown in International competion (and the competion is very important to (almost) all non-US players/teams... look at the world cup!).

...time to step off my soap box :)

I'd still like to see the Rocket's unload Collier for a 2nd round pick and pick up Bateer as a backup. He's a decent backup but more importantly, I think he'd help Ming get adjusted to his new surroundings and give him some company during the down time.

I'm tired of those ignorant fools who keep comparing Yao with Bradley. Ask a child to look at the two and they can tell you the difference:

    Who's better built and stronger?
    Who makes more baskets?

...not to mention Yao's basketball intelligence and his love for the game, if you know anything about him at all.

Universal Truth - Players with a golden shooting touch who're not selfish -> Team Success!
