This is the best day! Not only did my beloved Republicans kick ass in virtually every area that they needed to...but liberals all across the country are p!ssed off! Lemme guess...Now all of the Dem's are going to 'circle the wagons' and 'find a cause'. WHAT A LAUGHER! HA! I loved watching Gephardt try to spin everything in a positive manner last night after his party pooped. Well Larry it is far to early to worry about exit poll results. I feel very confident that we will pick up an additional seat in the Senate and make some headway in the House...not to mention the tremendous strides we are making in the States Governors races." Man what a night! I remember my liberal thinking days...they were called childhood and adolescence. I heard the BEST quote on FoxNewsx last night. It was Former Mayor Rudy G of NYC and he was restating a quote by Churchill. If you are not a liberal when you are 20 then you have no heart. If you are not a conservative when you are 40 then you have no brain." What...Me edit? Nah! Happy Chance
Chance: Try Churchill. How sad. People with brains don't use famous quotes they can't even cite properly.
Personal attacks on posters always validates what you say. Thats a nice way to have a good conversation. Edit: Nice edit.
edit: damn you, haven. master baiter, I had already removed that line when you posted your reply. I guess it must have taken you a good 10 minutes to think of that snappy line. And the reason I wrote it is that Trader_Jorge seems to be a different person than the one I had previously seen on the bbs. Although I have been traveling and not checking in as much lately.
I had never heard the quote before last night. And people f4ck up quotes all the time. Is the credit more important than the message?
Hayesstreet, You are probably the biggest idiot I have ever read on this board!!! Your liberal diatribe has made us all dumber, please stop before you embarass yourself even further. That was Clinton who increased taxes to that extented! The largest tax increase in US was the 93' tax increase.
It was hard to write it down exactly with all of the champagne corks flying and music playing in my living room. I got the gist of it.
Of course not. But you must admit, there is a certain amount of irony involved in mistakenly attributing a quote from one of the most famous conservatives of the previous century, especially when the quote boasts of the intellectual prowess of conservatives.
Hey guys, At least the Republicans can get their agenda implemented, and if it doesn't work, they have no one to blame but themselves. This is all a bunch of "who cares" stuff. DaDakota
Here's a great quotes from a Liberal Icon!!! "It takes a village" to show HayesStreet that the GOP kick some Liberal A$$ last night! Finally we are free of Clinton and all his cronies!!!
First, based on the razor then margins in the last two elections it isn’t like a mandate from god or anything. Also, there still are filibusters for extreme measures. I do think there are some lessons from yesterday. 1) GWB continues to be misunderestimated as a politician with national appeal; 2) the democratic leadership are rudderless wimps. No question the republicans won the day—even if the margin is exaggerated. To tell you the truth this is by far the biggest downside of yesterday. Most of the wings of politics shift ever few years but the effects of judicial appointments linger. It may be up to moderate NE and Midwest republicans to keep another Thomas or another Scalia or a Bork from the bench. Either that or Sandra Day or Rhenquist (sp?), no liberals themselves even if they fall short of right wing ideologues, deciding to wait a couple of extra years to retire until a semi-balanced replacement can be ensured. Here is my divergence…. Due to the events last night: I might very well have substantially more money in my pocket over the next few years (tax cuts with most benefits on the upper brackets). I might also be able to get more back from my social security investments down the road, because I have plenty of other retirement funds so my social security can be put in more risky investments without too much overall risk to me. Also, because I am not a human who cannot become pregnant due to forcible acts of others, I no longer could use strong education system or support structure (loans, grants) because I currently have all the education I'll ever need, I don't live in a dangerous part of town, I am not someone likely to be interrogated by police for no reason, I am not someone likely to be discriminated against due to race, creed or sexual orientation, I have a good accountant so when taxes go up the roof in 20 years to pay for our budgets I'll have a lot in nontaxable funds--I guess I can say it is pretty much all good for me personally. However sometimes I think it is good to weigh what is good for you personally for what is good for most people and future generations.
You haven't been around too long. Please (take a page from your book, TJ) point out which part of my post you think is incorrect, and I'll be happy to respond. Please point out which parts on my post are necessarily 'liberal,' and how ANYTHING could make you 'dumber.' Are you denying that Bush increased taxes in 1990? Or is the point that TJ was trying to make, that the '93 increase was the largest, not the '90 increase. Even if true, doesn't that invalidate supply-side tax cut theories claim to 90s growth?
Good post DaDakota, and Desert Scar. I almost didn't log on today, because I was afraid of a "nya nya nya nya nya" attitude from the conservatives, and Carville-esque spinning from my fellow liberals. I'm glad most of the people here have avoided both... with a couple of exceptions .
Many of you guys are dumbasses if you think HayesStreet is an idiot. In fact HayesStreet isn't particularly liberal and he and I have sparred a number of times. He might be left of center on a few things, but he definitely is free thinker--which many of you obviously are not—maybe ya’ll are just regurgitating what Daddy, Gramps and Rush have been telling you your first 15 years of life. Hayes may have said a few jabs at GWB, but come on, it isn’t personally directed at ya’ll, lighten up, ya’ll had a great day and we will just have to wait and see what it brings.
