Nonononono We want someone who can do the same things. If we can somehow get Ezeli cheap, he would be perfect - but isn't he RFA? So seems like no chance to get him cheap... I don't know who else out there fits the bill, so we might need to look to a trade to find the backup C - play Harrell and Onuaku until we can get someone?
We can't get Ezeli cheap... Zaza is a decent defender and rebounder. Not sure what more you want out of a back up C...?
Agreed. Outside of Ariza and Beverley, nobody else on the team could be called a good defender. Best case scenario theres some internal improvement. Maybe Dekker or McDaniels flip a switch, but i'm not holding my breath. I like Lance Thomas. Knicks fans love this guy for his effort and defense. Came out undrafted and turned 10-day contracts into a career, so you know he's a hard worker. Not a total zero on offense either. Can step out to midrange and 3 on occasion. Primarily a SF but gets minutes at PF, which could be good given our lack of defense at that position.
still need a backup point guard and defensive center. don't know if we have enough money for both if we keep d-mo.
McDaniels could be a good defender. He has shown promise already - he's just super limited offensively. He's like a more athletic Corey brewer on the offensive end though.
