Baseball and basketball caps are not apples to apples. Spending relative to their competitors has to be evaluated differently.

well said. that and when the big-dog teams beat the underdog teams, they bought and cheated their way to the championship...

that's why I like it when the rare underdog wins. the script gets entirely flipped and the small market fans get to share something special with their city...

    go Rockets

Both Drayton and Les spend large amounts on their respective franchise. To say that one is cheap would be more than foolish.

Yeah and thats why he is whining about it

Im not going to get too detailed but if you have followed the Astros for a while, Drayton has always maintained a mediocre payroll despite Houston being the 4th largest city in America.

For a while there our payroll was even lower than St. Louis. This latest 100 million dollar number is like an abberation and most of it is to a couple of players.

Thats not due to being a generous owner, its due to mismanagement and stupidity.

Since being at Enron/Minutemaid, the farm league has suffered and now ranks as the worst in the majors. Drayton has spent years not paying draft picks, and its finally catching up. Unky Drayton is so worried about turning a profit every night, he wont build for the long term - so he fools the public every year into believing we are a we are a contender.

You do know Drayton is one of the richest people in the world ?

Drayton might make poor choices with his money, but the Astros were in the world series in 2005, and the Rockets have yet to make any serious post-season noise since the 90's.

Are you trying to say that Les has spent his money properly recently ?
Last I checked we have 2 super-stars who are injury prone and sit on the bench on a yearly basis.

Tinman has been on this board for over 10 years.. Even during the times I was lurking you could tell he was an AVID ROCKETS FAN...

So for you to come out and say something like that is Ludicrous...

All some of you guys want to do is ATTACK and not read to learn... Tinman is basically given you guys a history lesson of WHY BARKLEY feels the way he does... Which we should all be proud to have a Historian and Insider to give you info on what is really going on.

But NO.... Because a lot of the YOF hate Barkley so much you seem to be pissed that Tinman is actually defending Barkley for being upset like he is... What happened to Barkley is why all PROFESSIONAL players treat the game as a business.... Nothing more Nothing Less..

Barkley came up an era where most players had Loyalty for the team and for the city and players and organization were like family... but a lot of these new owners such as Les treat the game as a business (which is) and now they are pissed that the players are acting the same way.

So Tinman.... I for one would like to say THANK YOU!!!! For trying to give some history and knowledge to a lot of these young fans who just started watching the Rockets when they signed T-Mac or Yao...

    thanks T-Man.

Imagine if Tracy or Yao got screwed over by six million dollars (adjusting for today's salary) after they decided to take a lower salary to sign Chris Bosh?

If I like Tracy as a Rockets player or not doesn't matter.
If Yao blows his money in Vegas or Macau doesn't matter.

What matters is that they got a raw deal and if they are angry then that's a good reason why to hold a grudge.

Half the crap on the thread is just why people hate Barkley and purely ignoring why things are the way they are.

I don't recall Barkley saying he hated HOUSTON or their FANS, I remember he was on Letterman and said how he loved the fans and his coach.

But this is the GARM = Getting Angry at Rockets in the Media

    good post,

How on earth are people comparing BASEBALL with BASKETBALL??

Is it Drayton's fault that there's no salary cap and that the Yankees can sign anybody they want?

if the NBA was like MLB, the Knicks would have LeBron, Dwade, Yao Ming, Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash and Tracy McGrady just because they could afford his contract

They do not have verbal agreements in the NBA. He signed a contract. If he wasn’t happy with the deal he shouldn’t have signed it. That’s like you applying for a job, agreeing on a salary, and then complaining that the company owes you money, even though you received a paycheck that you agreed on. If Charles has a complaint he needs to take Les to court, not verbally whine on TV. Charles has a history of complaining about his ex-owners. Why people are taking Charles' words as being true is beyond me.

Umm, Charles HAD to sign that contract. He wasn't going to get better money elsewhere, since the Rockets had bird rights.

Now, whether Barkley is lying out of his ass or speaking the truth is up to debate. But assuming that he's not lying, you basically made the point why he couldn't do anything about it. There are no verbal agreement in the NBA. If Les promised him 12 mil, and then gave him 9 mil, Barkley can't do jack about it because there's no proof.

If you listened or watched that episode, Barkley actually suggested that the reason he didn't get the 3 mil was because he came to training camp fat and out of shape. Which leads me to think the 3 mil was some kind of bonus and since Barkley was out of shape, Les refused to pay.

They do and still have verbal UNDER the TABLE agreements... Minnesota just got caught....

If you go back and read the threads with what tinman is saying, you will see that CB did something that most players want do and that is to take a pay cut to get the right pieces on the team to win a championship...

If I was screwed i would whine also....

I guarantee, if a company screws you over, you would be emailing everyone to let them know that this company screwed you over... Just think of TV as Charles big email.

    hey rookie,
give me your evidence that Barkley despises Tmac.

your other pal said Barkley never visited China, but he got proven wrong.

Sometimes it just ticks me off that most of these guys don't believe the Rockets were an actually franchise until Yao joined the team...

The Rockets being disrespected is nothing new, however the sensitivity of the newer fans to anything said about the Rockets is making us look like we're the most insecure fans of any sport.

There's more insecurity about the Rockets than pride about them, its obvious when Charles Barkley is the most consistent thread.

When Rocket fans were angry that Sports Illustrated didn't put them on the Cover for winning an NBA championship, but was ready to put the Knicks on the cover if they won.. that was legit disrespect

Hanging on every word Barkley says, that's Gossip Girl stuff.
I would say TMZ, but I would be insulting them.

it's not very often that I dont roll my eyes at the overboardishness( ;) ) of your posts, but in this case.

    I agree fully.

grow a sack people, who gives a crap waht others think...it's all about what we think about our team.
