Compare all of JVG's Rosters to Adelman's Portland and Sacramento teams and tell me which of those rosters should have been outscoring those Adelman teams? While I certainly put some of the onus on JVG for who he brings to the team, in the end they both have zero rings and Adelman had a ton more talent to work. Who on our roster outside of Yao and TMac would be starting on any team still in the play offs? Who on our bench would beat out bench players from the teams still in the play offs? Barring Yao turning into the next coming of Dream, or a major free agent/draft pick up we won't be significantly better next year with another season of wear on TMac's bad back.

There is a reason that Adelman had a great record in Portland and Sacramento and had a horrible 66-98 record in GS, and it had little to do with his coaching.

Adelman's Portland teams were pretty much a Drexler show -- well they obviously lived and died by how he played at any rate. There is no shame in losing to two of the top teams of all time in the finals.

Adelman will work some magic with T-Mac and Yao is like a huge bonus over anything he has had in the past.

He also had the Kings skip free throw practice before game 7, which they had done every practice all season long. They shot 16 for 30 from the line, and lost by six points. Lakers shot 27/33.

It's pointless to compare roster talent. The talent on the roster is heavily influenced by the taste of a coach.

For example, Rick Adelmen would never, ever play scrubs and old worn out ex knicks like Ryan Bowen and Rod Strickland.

JVG's lack of offense has to do with his selection of players as well as plays.

Yeah because he could have signed Nash and KG instead, but choose those guys instead

Those moves were bad, but honestly it wasn't like there were a ton of better moves out there for the salary cap situation. Maxed Salary cap = minimum pay players = crap we got.

You admitted JVG made bad moves that cut our talent thin. That's good enough.

Let's see how JVG developed our talent:

    1. Playing a long list of old, worn out or talentless scrubs from New York significant minutes just so he can pad a little wins(and sometimes it fails). Instead of giving those minutes and spots to some young prospects.

    2. Trading away Mike James and Boki Nachbar which further cut our talent level thin.

    3. Alienating consequtive free agents so Houston get nothing in return for them in the market as well as getting a bad rep among future FAs.

    4. Sitting rookies in doghouse, only play them when he has no other choice.

    5. Winning meaningless games and bump us lower in draft order to pad his winning record.

Thanks JVG, you traded the Rockets future for your regular season winning stat.

Of course the roster needs overhauling, but the reason why you emphasize the fact that ONE player can create his own shot is because Van Gundy runs a pure isolation offense.

The offense is built around T-Mac's and Yao's abilities to score and if one or both are off, then the team is dead. Adelman runs a motion offense that emphasizes passing, cutting, screens, etc.. which allow the offense to be less dependent on T-Mac's ability to score and more on execution and precision.

We HAVE TO upgrade the roster but Adelman's offense will help even if no changes are made.

it's beyond developing talent. i don't think vspan or novak would be good anyways. bonzi is another story.

what i don't like about JVG is he doesn't care to have any creativity offensively.

Those much riveted regular season stats of JVG's Rockets crumbled faster than Enron stocks in the playoffs. The only remaining invariable is JVG's offense, which sucks.

to make a slight turn in topic...

Robert Horry is a effing STUD. Some of the biggest cahones ever.

Whats funny is that in his Rockets days, Marv Albert called him "better known for his cutting and scoring than his shooting." (during the telecast of the 94' finals)
Its funny how things turn out.

People forget how athletic Horry was when he first came into the league ~ 6' 10" with hops and speed.

...and he has always had ice water in his veins.

Exactly, if the Roxs get better it won't be because of the coach, it'll be because of an improved roster, specificly at the 1 and 4

If I didn't know better, I'd swear that was an assist from Vlade. Maybe there was some under-the-table money exchanging hands?
