Exactly. I think winning consistently this season gotten this fan base to the point where any loss is a gigantic letdown. Granted, all of the losses have been pretty bad, but guess what? We have won all of the close games, so there's no games to point at and say that we played well but couldn't pull it out. As much as people are hating on Schaub, his numbers are right where they have been at in the past few seasons when he was considered a good, but not great, quarterback.
I agree completely. We put so much on Schaub (most of it deservedly so) but yet when we lose we say "Awww man, Schaub sucks". You name one team that has succeeded in the regular season, OR the playoffs that lost the battle at the line of scrimmage. It's no coincidence that every single game we've lost this season we couldn't handle the opposing line. Our Losses: Against the Packers Arian had: 17 carries for 29 yards for 1.7YPC,and the defense Gave up 42 Against the Patriots Arian had: 15 carries for 46 yards for 3.1YPC, and the defense Gave up 42 Against the Vikings Arian had: 10 carries for 15 yards for 1.5YPC, and the defense Gave up 23 to Christian Ponder (nuff said) Yet in our "biggest" wins: Against the Ravens Arian had: 19 carries for 98 yards for 5.2YPC Against the Broncos Arian had: 25 carries for 105 yards for 4.2YPC Against the Bears (in bad weather)Arian had: 29 carries for 102 yards for 3.5YPC I'm not saying Matt Schaub is secretly Joe Montana, what I am saying is that for anyone who's actually watched the games they can see that when we lose there's more that falls apart than the Passing Game!
REASONS WHY MATT SCHAUB IS NOT A GOOD QUARTERBACK: -He is not very athletic. He is a sloth. He is absolutely devoid of any athleticism. When was the last time you saw Schaub run for a first down? He is slow of foot. Look at this guy's arm. He has no muscle definition. I can keep going but even the most ardent schaub zealots woulndt argue this so ill end it. -He has a weak arm. When was the last time we saw schaub throw a fade to andre? How many times have we seen schaub hit a streaking wide reciever down the sidelines? And even on the long throws that he does somehow manage to complete, you always see our wide outs slow down because the ball doenst have enough zip costing us more yards and even scores. -He is lacks poise. We know he's not athletic, neither is tom brady or peyton manning but those guys have tons of poise in terms of pocket presence. Look, in the nfl, the pocket always collapses. Defenses are built to go after the quarterback. You have to have some semblance of poise, composure when the pocket breaks down. With schaub, if he doesnt get an eternity to throw the ball, its over for him. He is not very cagey at all in the pocket. How many times have we seen schaub go down with a swipe of one arm? Look at the vikings game when we were at the one yard line, this dude fell down with a one armed swipe. Its not just that game, thats the overwhelming majority of the time. Even more evidence he lacks poise and composure? Look at his abysmal record in prime time games. There's a reason why he is labeled as a prime time choker. There was even an article about this that caused great debate in texans message boards. -He is a horrible decision maker Forget about all those bad game ending picks that schaub has under his belt, this dude throws interceptions to defensive linemen!!!! He continually misses arian foster on check downs (highlighted this season when schaub had a wide open foster right in front of his face instead threw to double coverage and got a INT instead). QB is a playmaking position. That is not schaub's strong suite. He is a glorified game manager with glorified stats. -He is not a leader How many times have we seen schaub when the going gets rough, instead of rallying his troops and pump his guys, he just stands or sit in the sideline quite and dejected. He's no cam newton but that's not really saying match. Look at Rogers, Peyton and Brady. They are the complete opposite of schaub. HOw many times have we seen Brady fire up his teammates by getting on them, yelling and screaming, spiking the ball. That fires up your teammates. I always see Peyton huddling his whole offense talking to them, imploring them. Look at Rogers, he ripped jones a new one when jones ran the wrong route!!! Rogers with his championship belt celebration. He has swag. That exudes confidence that your whole team sees. Look at Brees leading his team before the game with his chant a la ray lewis. Matt Schaub does none of those things. He doesnt exude confidence. There's a reason why he has never played in a playoff game ever. He's a back up quarterback being mentored/coached by another back up quarterback.
now a lot of schaub zealots are blaming the offensive line for schaub's piss poor performances. the same oline that has 3 pro bowlers. i dont know wtf schaub did do garner so much support in houston. the man has done nothing. absolutely nothing. same with kubiak.
There's a reason people call him Susan - he replicates a submissive woman in a sport where a leader needs to take the reigns. I am all for gender ambiguity outside of the game, but this is gridiron. Men at work.
Hey crumb, how about you meet me outside of Greenway 3 tomorrow(richmond side) around 2:30 pm and I'll make you my honey bear.
It's because zealots know football. The line has been great for those 12 wins, schaub has been great in 1o of those 12 wins. The D-coordinators that orchestrated a game plan, that obliterated our line, they're notorious scheme busters. But I doubt they will have that type of success the second time we face them. We're 12-and freaking 3!
It's not about "supporting Schaub", but it is about placing blame where blame needs to be placed. No quarterback is going to EVER play great without his o-line giving him time. Just think about all of those years Peyton Manning would get obliterated by the Steelers, because they couldn't block their zone blitz. Or what about the fact that the "win at least 12 games a year" Patriots struggle so much against the "we're at our best when we're 9-7" Giants. Pass rush doesn't just affect the team here in Houston, it can destroy even the "elite" quarterbacks too.
These are great points. SO if we can't establish a run, then schaub is not going to have a good game. Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have never had a good running game up until this year. And by no means am I comparing Schaub to them, but both can make big plays when its required of them. Schaub can't, he chokes under pressure. Well so far this season, he has. And all I hear through the radio, is that Schaub make accurate throws and makes intelligent choices. Accurate to a certain extent, but intelligent choices i really must disagree with this. He can't adjust or make it to his second read. He is always throwing it to the plays 1st read, and many times those receivers are double or triple covered. So how is that intelligent. I am not placing all the blame on, Schaub. I believe that KUBIAK has a lot to do with this as well. If our QB can't be our leader our head coach should take his place. But once an opposing coach has figured out his game plan, he never can seem to adjust. Always stays the course even if it isn't working. And by the end of the 3rd quarter the starters are relieved of their duties (basically giving up). And that is horrible!!!! Kubiak must take alot of the blame as well.
Not establishing the run is a problem, but what I was highlighting is not the fact that we aren't establishing the run, but more importantly we're losing the battle at the line of scrimmage. Tom Brady in his best statistical season (2007-2008) they dominated EVERYONE they played, yet when they played a team with a good front 7 in the Super Bowl (NYG) they lost the battle at the line of scrimmage and it showed in the final score. When Aaron Rodgers beat Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl in 2011 they only ran the ball 11 times yet they averaged 4.7 YPC. Hence didn't get dominated at the LOS. NO QUARTERBACK, no matter how elite, is going to win the game if his team gets dominated at the line of scrimmage.
I do agree with you though on that^^^, I don't think he necessarily makes "great" decisions, I just don't think he makes bad ones. He doesn't make rookie mistakes, but he also doesn't improvise WHATSOEVER. On Kubiak, he's in a tough position. Because the Texans offense obviously isn't a big play offense, but it is built around big plays (sounds dumb, I know). But the Texans offense is built to dink, dink, dink, then when you creep up just a little too much, we take the 20 yard crossing route from A.J., or the bomb down the sideline to Lestar, or the backside wheel route from O.D. And Kubiak feels (rightfully so) that even though a run may only net a few yards, that eventually the defense will get greedy and over-aggressive and the Texans will be able to take advantage of that. But the problem comes in when the Texans play a good defense that doesn't get overly aggressive, but stays disciplined. (i.e. every good team we're going to play in the playoffs). In order for us to put up points in the playoffs against good teams we're going to have to do one of 2 things: either open up the offense more ala 2010, or do like Minnesota has done and gut it out and run the ball against 8 man fronts. Because in order to beat the Texans offense right now, all you have to do is load the box, bring 7 and stay disciplined. Either Matt Schaub will crumble, or we'll go 3 and out every drive.
Did you watch how pathetic Schaub looked sunday? Since you are a schaub apologist, would you say he has the same leadership mentality of Tom Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers? To name a few. Hell, Cutler is tough as nails although hes a diva.
The thing that bugs me the most about Schaub is hi small placement. He rarely places the ball where the receiver can catch in stride and can make a break away move. Most of his throws appear over or under thrown or behind the receiver. Then when I watch guys like Manning and Rogers and Brady I am amazed at how often they hit their guys in stride with the ball just dropping into their hands injust the right place away from the defender. Oftentimes this is the difference between a short completion and a big play or a big play and a touchdown.
Cutler?! Really?! Spoiler <a href="http://www.sodahead.com/entertainment/ice-t-blasts-wife-on-twitter-is-twitter-an-appropriate-place-for-a-couple-to-fight/question-3382837/?link=ibaf&imgurl=http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m984lkTyFz1qi3zmfo1_500.gif&q=that's a+good+one+gif"><img src="http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m984lkTyFz1qi3zmfo1_500.gif"><br>that's a+good+one+gif pics on Sodahead</a>
Very true, there was a point in that Minnesota game where they tried to get cocky and play A.J. 1 on 1 and he beat his man down the sideline and Schaub overthrew him. I'm not sure if the hits just got to him or what, but his deep throws have to be amongst the worse in the NFL. If only we could get reliant stadium raised to the same altitude as Mile High Stadium....then Schaub would be UNSTOPPABLE!!!
No actually, I was traveling. Do you bring this up to highlight how your opinion is based on a small sample size? Well, first of all, I'm not stupid enough to speculate since I don't know a f***ing thing about it, just like the rest of us. Secondly, what is leadership to you? Toughness, a la Jay "I know we're playing to go to the Superbowl but my knee has an ouchie so I'm gonna sit on the bench and pout" Cutler? That's interesting, because I recall Schaub putting up two outstanding performances in games on a dislocated shoulder and a broken foot (not to mention a lacerated ear). That's not being an apologist, that's being a realist.
fantasy dorks don't understand this. They tend to think less of a qb if he has a running game and a great defense. Back in the superbowl years, Tina brady would throw for close to 200 yards and his backs stacked up 150 yards, while the defense and special teams handled the great field position. Even when Erin roygers won the superbowl, that run doesn't happen if the running game didn't get rediscovered. Getting that push from the o-line and running the ball is so important. There are two ways to protect schaub from a vicious pass rush, one, have the running game going . two, open the offense up from jumpstart. the detractors ignore how efficient schaub is from the shotgun. There are a couple of media people who believe kubiak has gotten conservative over the past weeks because he doesn't trust his qb, which is so silly. I think there is a purpose to his madness. I remember the same criticism last season, something like, "y kubiak let yates throw the ball around the bengals but not the sucky colts???"
