There are other rare animals that are shot too. People kill albino or white deer whenever they see them although there is one large population that is protected somewhere, I think it is in New York.

Where do polar bears and grizzly bears actually live where the territory overlaps where this could happen?

If I managed to kill a bear, I'd take a photo with it. It's no small accomplishment.

If this bear hadn't been shot, they probably wouldn't have known a hybrid was created in the wild. There may be others out there they are not aware of.

I would also, Grizzly bears have been known to take 12 gauge slugs more than once to be stopped...

That is scary though,...The size and strength of the Polar bear, coupled with the bigger claws and endurance of a Grizzly. ...I'm not sure I would feel over gunned with much that is available...

I'm going to go home and start killing all the birds in my backyard on the off-chance that one of them is a pigeon-rat. That would be totally sweet.

I don't think I could kill just for a trophy, but even threatened species are sometimes hunted according to regional wildlife management policies. Almost always, this is due to overpopulation which can result in starvation and disease, or encroachment into populated areas by dangerous animals.

The hunters are doing our dirty work, and we're all to blame.

Lol. Alright, you go on ahead and do that. I get the feeling pigeons aren't endangered anyway. I recommend you google some recipes on how to cook them up.

Actually pigeons don't taste bad. They are some what like a dove only a little tougher.

The point is that pigeon-rat is a Simpsons reference, and the Simpsons are funny.

Pigeon rat is a joke, it's from the Holloween ep where you find out Bart had a siamese twin named Hugo who's locked in the attic. He wants to sow himself back to Bart who he practices and creates a pigeon rat.

But seriously, how can anybody think it's not big deal this thing was killed? Maybe nobody would have known about it, but if left alone, eventually we could have seen the start of a new species since the ones in zoos seem to be fertile.

true. urban sprawl has really put a strain on some animal populations.

anyone remember the thread a while back when some guy was living with some grizzly bear family and the bears turned on him and killed him?

I wouldn't be hunting bears personally.

I don't remember that but I remember a man who studied grizzlies got a little too close and was killed and eaten by the bears along with his wife/girlfriend.
