Battier won't get Smith and they have 4 more months to negotiate.

Rockets already have two vet points in Alston & James. Why would they need to acquire another?

Perhaps Adelman wants someone who's familiar running his system?

I trawled through all the remaining free agents, nothing obvious. Then through the team rosters...

Jason Williams?

The Heat are virtually starting five deep with two backup centers. Riley is playing cat and mouse by suggesting he might retire but we know it's really about getting the Heat's owner to go over luxury tax. They're handcuffed by the LT and will most likely have to depend on a PG with durability issues throughout 82 games and beyond. Even their 2005 first round draft pick who only played 8 games last season is heading into the upcoming one with having just gotten knee surgery. Too many needs, not enough salary space.

Williams, Quinn
Wade, Wright, Cook
Walker
Haslem, Simien
Shaq, Mourning, Doleac

A deal involving Alston, Lucas, and Snyder would work salary-wise. Adding an extra player in either Reed, Novak or the draft rights to Landry cuts the roster down to 15 players.

Miami fill out their roster and get depth behind their starters and a point guard who has a greater chance of staying healthy to start 82 games.

Adelman gets his man. Williams is an injury-prone stop gap solution, possibly a year away from retiring, but one with an expiring contract.

So you're willing to take one non-NBA tested talent over another. You haven't even given Landry a chance and you want to trade him already?

And when did he struggle against bigger players in the summer league and he definitely didn't struggle against bigger players in college. I don't know where you're gettin your info from.

Thought you were referring to Leon Powe, but as for Scola, no discussion needed.

This was what I was thinking post the Mo Williams decision as well. Alston is probably better/safer than the Heat's alternatives, he can give them a solid 30+minutes. The Heat also need more bodies. JL3, Snyder, (maybe) Novak--all would have a better chance for helping Miami than us. We thin out our roster, improve our cap situation, and Jason Williams is probably fine for backing up Mike James for 15-20 minutes and where Head or Brooks fill in when his knee is bad.

If I were the Heat I'd use my MLE on Barnes and pursue Alston or James from us. I think they would have a fighting chance assuming good health. Right now their outlook is bleak and Oneal/Zo are just getting older, D Wade should hold off any extension because other pieces do not look there. Knight and Francis are not going to cut it. Navarro might, but he might also flop.

Adding Williams would add over a million even though it's 4 for 1 trade, unless you mean long term, ie dumping Alston's contract.

In the end it wouldn't be too much of a concern thanks to Sura's contract.

I wonder of Mike Miller would be available. Grizz need bodies and would probably love to get out of his contract.

Scola and Rafer, 2nd rounder for Tyrus Thomas and Chris Duhon.

Tyrus is an outstanding shotblocker. He's also developing a midrange shot.(see the summer league reports from Orlando)

Chris Duhon is a pass first pg. Also he is a good defender and he can guard the bigger and stronger pgs in the league.

would u trade rafer for cuttino if it brought francis here?

would u trade rafer for cuttino if it brought francis here?

I was out shooting some hoops the other night and was thinking about this. Would you do this trade if it brought back Francis? Close if already proposed.

L.A. Clippers Trade Breakdown
Outgoing

13.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.5 apg in 36.4 minutes
Incoming

Successful Scenario
Due to Houston and L.A. Clippers being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and L.A. Clippers had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

LOL! Max is on a no Steve Francis campaign. :D

I just don't really see how this could work on this team. I still have visions of them playing 2 on 5 for several years burned into my mind.
