Trump is essentially saying that the POTUS should be a king, if he chooses to be one.

I'm quite sure this nation was founded on a staunchly anti-monarchical principle.

And to think the gop used to stand for morality and the rule of law has now been radicalized by a cult leader in the span of less than a decade is truly mind blowing.

I disagree. This is who they have always been. Trump has given them permission to show their true face.

Most of those who stood on principle have left or been driven out of the party.

Always is a long time. And you can't paint a whole base with one brush and one trend.

    Those are D sensibilities.

The R fact free sensibilities, after doing their own research, include something something Hollywood Elite something something George Soros something something child trafficking something something blood transfusions something something in the basement of a DC pizza parlor something something Nancy Pelosi is evil and her husband is gay something something China used covid to defeat Trump something something Bill Gates covid vaccines nanobots something something Biden stole the election something something.

    About the word "always" ...

My observations from the last 60 odd years or so is that the racists have flocked to the R party after the Civil Rights Act of the 1960s. Every election since then the Rs blow dog whistles to let the racists know they are are with them. The non-racists Rs are complicit in putting up with this.

The times are changing though. Trump since 2015 has let his racist freak flag fly. The "normies" have left the party (good for them) and I suspect that they will not come back until the racist megaphones is replaced with the racist dog whistles again (bad for them).

For some reason trump thinks this is a compelling reason shy people, specifically the ussc and the justices he placed on the court, should ignore his criminal actions and allow him immunity from any charge...

trump tries to compare the wrenching decision Truman made to end WW2 sooner to save countless lives of Americans and others, a decision Truman made in the furtherance of his role as President and Commander-in-Chief, to trump's criminal acts that he took to overturn the election he lost and in the process destroy our democracy in order to restore himself to the presidency? That alone should not only show the desperation trump has to avoid being held accountable and his own lunacy.

The modern Republican party has had people like Mitt Romney who even his critics still consider to be upstanding and moral. It had John McCain who publicly defended Obama to one of his own supporters and in defeat graciously acknowledged the significance of Obama's election. There were several Republicans even in the Trump Administration who stood up to Trump when he wanted to do things that were unconstitutional.

The problem with the GOP is starting all the way back with the Southern Strategy is that much of the leadership of the party wanted power and believed that winning elections was more important than principles. People like Lee Atwater knew this and on his death bed regretted where he had taken politics. This accelerated with the TEA Party and again we see with people like John Boehnor and Paul Ryan regretting that. The almost inevitable result of all this was Trump, a candidate that ran on grievance and anger with no principles other than personal power.

As such the party is now mostly made up of Crazies, Conmen, and Cowards (true believers driven by imagined victimhood, those looking to profit off them, and those who are so afraid of losing their positions so they give in to the other two). People of principle like Romney are either marginalized or like Liz Cheney driven out.

Do you know how many people Presidents kill per year? How many drone strikes in the Middle East did Obama approve and how many people died from them? Should he be prosecuted for those? How many people did Bill Clinton and Janet Reno kill in Waco? Should Clinton be prosecuted for murder? Some of you guys think the government doesn't make decisions like this -- but you are very naive.

This is again the “if you come after our guy we’ll come after yours.”

If there is evidence that Bill Clinton or Obama did thing like order drone strikes for their own personal benefit they should be prosecuted. The rule of law should be above whether a president is an R or a D.

This post is even more ironic from a poster who has previously made claims that Obama should be prosecuted for all sorts of things now arguing for blanket immunity. That said in the words of Logan Roy this not a serious person.

So you agree with my point. Presidents must make decisions to kill people. They are the Commander-in-Chief of the military. They must have immunity.

Investigating voter fraud, much of which was captured on video, geotraced cell phone data, and impossible voting statistical impossibilities, is not for any one person's "personal benefit". Its to save our democracy. Trump was attempting to preserve the integrity of our voting system. While Democrats trashed it for their own benefit. That's the difference.
