Before this thread, there was zero chance I would ever get a PSP. You guys have me thinking about it. Sounds like a sweet piece of hardware.
When I thought Rita was going to hit us, I went out and bought a car charger for my psp and I picked up Gripshift. It's an interesting game. Has anyone had any problems with Madden shutting down in Franchise-mode? The downgrader has been released too. http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000027060858/
Bringing the back due to a interesting development... ...a PSP 4 GB HD: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000260062249/ I think I read that the battery included is a 3600 mAh battery, which is twice as much as the regular PSP battery. So even if you don't want the HD, you may want to look at getting the battery by itself.
Other news yesterday. http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000753062151/ Doesn't look like too much of a threat now, but watch what you download.
There is a new firmware update to the PSP. This is version 2.5 seems they have added the abiltiy to run their LocationFreeTV on it. Its like one of those SlingBox devices. You can hook it up to your TV and then recieve live TV on the PSP anywhere there is a WI-FI connection. I think the LocationFree boxes are running about $300, but there are rumors that the PS3 might be able to do this as well. I'm in Denmark right now and would kill for the chance to watch the Astros from my PSP. Link
I sold my PSP a month and and a after I got it (I bought it for $210 with free shipping)... I loaded it with 100 Nintendo classic games and some dude bought it for $300 bucks. I guess I've just come to the time where video games just aren't that fun to me anymore. I just sold my PS2 slim and all my games, because I played it all of two times in a year... and my Xbox hasn't been touched in over a year. I still game, but exclusively on the PC... I need a keyboard and mouse to feel useful I guess.
That is potentially an awesome feature. Someone on another board suggested some type of "Sony TV" setup in major population areas. Some things that could be included would be advertisements (even area specific) and TV shorts. Maybe if you're in Houston, you could get some videos advertising the Astros game tonight or the Rockets season opener; they may even be able to show highlights of the games or something. And then you'd also get something like "The blah blah blah store is having a blah blah blah sale, so check it out now!" And of course you would get advertisements on new PSP games/accessories/news/etc. Not sure on how all the specifics would work (subscription service?), but that would be pretty cool.
Sony just announced a new, limited edition bundle for the PSP, named the "Giga Pack." Basically, for ~$300, you get what was in the value bundle plus a stand and a 1GB memory stick instead of the 32MB one. Not a great deal, IMO, but better than the value pack; the option of a $179-$199 PSP would be better since you could then get a 1 GB memory stick for like $60-$75. The Giga Pack should be available later in the year, closer to Christmas time: http://psp.ign.com/articles/659/659947p1.html
