the question who has a 6.1 or 7.1 system? or how many people are even know that some dvds etc have the dts option? i always look for the dts option over dd, but i imagine the majority of dvd owners just hit play and don't bother changing the sound options.
dts pwns DD 5.1 its funny how many times i've watched movies at peoples places who have dts capable system and they just choose the default DD 5.1 i am just waiting for the day when a HDMI receiver that can decode all the HD formats becomes reasonable. I have a 6.1 HDMI receiver right now which I really like but it doesnt do DD plus, Master and all I dont know anyone who has one to hear the difference between the different HD audio formats. I wish I did
dude, i don't even have a hdmi receiver. i just use the digital coax/optical for my audio. i send the hdmi directly to the tv. oh, 5.1 old school, dts and dolby digital!
Pwned by an 01er! Does anyone even bother to put that rear center speaker in their 6.1 home theater setup?
I have a 6.1 system in the living room and 7.1 system(home theater in the box) in my bedroom. The rear center speakers do make a difference(check out the Lord of the Rings flicks with their DTS ES 6.1 tracks). I think 7.1 may be overkill and a lot of 7.1 audio tracks simply duplicate the rear center channel over both speakers. As for DTS vs. DD, it's a moot point now with lossless audio on Blu-ray titles. Once they're decoded, you're listening to the same uncompressed track either way.
I have been extremely happy with my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player except for the extremely stupid decision to not put RF on it so it can work with my universal remote. Anyways, there are cheaper models out there, but the PS3 is considered one of the best quality players made, especially for the price of comparable quality players.
Right now is a good time - you just have to find the right seller. Look for installers - retailers who cater to home builders and the like. With the housing market dropping off a lot of builders are going back on deals and leaving retailers stuck with surplus product. I have seen 2k receivers for 1300 or 1500 receivers for 900. The new codecs really just came out so I think it will be a little longer for a market drop in price.
I do. I set my options right and configure my DVD player EVERY time for a different movie. No one at my home can do this except for me.
FAIL!!!...Dude you should seriously upgrade your *****... I have 7.1 set up in my living room, and it sounds amazing...Only the more recent Blu-Ray discs have DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD so I only buy those that have them...Die Hard 4 sounds amazing...so does Fantastic4 SS...Literally shakes the floor...
too many speakers dude. if i had a dedicated home theater room, than yeah. i'm trying to de-clutter the living room. i've sold out and gone wireless on the rears. rocketfish baby!
oh snap! i havent gotten my 6th speaker yet because i bought a HT 5.1 set up and ditched the receiver in favor of my HDMI one not too long ago and havent bought a 6th speaker yet. it would be hard to set up at my apt the way the room is designed there is a window right where the 6th would ideally go. so either it will be too high or too low. oh well. when(ever) I move i'll get the new speaker and have a better designed set up.
