That sounds like a good theory but recent history seems to suggest that the numbers correlate more often than they don't and certainly significantly more than people who place value on those objective measurements. I think there is more validity to that argument in the NFL where for instance defensive schemes require sometimes vastly different skill sets of players but even having said that, the accuscore game predictor over at ESPN consistently seems to be in the top 5% of "pick em" predictions for the last several years against the NFL panel's picks of commentators, former coaches, players, scouts, and analysts.
But how many teams will luck, profit, be fortunate enough to employ LBJ for $19M a season? I think that James sweetheart of a contract is the envy of every other NBA franchise. Is that contract the source of Miami's championships - i.e. do they have any of their 2 recent championships without LBJ? I would venture to say that no, they would not.
