I'm surprised that Boy George's vote in the next British election wasn't up there. What a joke.

Man, Drudge is really pissing me off right now. He's got the "Pope Dies in Rome" headline, but in smaller print above that it clearly says "italy's sky italia quoting vatican sources says pope's brain, heart still functioning. . ."

EDIT, looks like he took it down just now.

It's kind of sickening watching all these news outlets try to break this first.

You want to be the first after it happens, not first when it haven't happend yet (make you look like a fool).

Come on, you know what I mean. It seems like if anybody in Italy calls up and says the Pope is dead, they'll immediately post it without any verification. I guess I'm just steamed because it was posted in here and then I go into "the Pope just died" mode only to see a few posts later that they were wrong and having to change their headlines.

strange to have just finished Angels and Demons and now the whole conclave thing will actually be happening. hopefully none of the other stuff does.

even though you knew it was coming, it's still kind of a shock to actually realize he's dead/about to die soon. he's just been around so long.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he was being kept alive by a breathing tube.

For devout Catholics, this is a huge and emotional blow. It's a bad analogy, but I remember sitting in Junior High, before they were called Middle School, when the principal came on the intercom and said, in an voice that reflected how upset he was, that President Kennedy had been shot and killed in Dallas. There were many gasps in the room, and several people started crying, including the teacher.

This Pope, for all that I disagreed with, was one of the finest, and perhaps the finest, in generations. Many Catholics will weep, and there will be much mourning. They have my sympathy.
