nash's game doesn't really help big men. he's a fast breaking type of PG who brings out the best in wing players and athletic forwards. a big man just needs a PG who can keep his counterpart out of the paint (defense) and spread the floor (3's). IMO derek fisher, delonte west, chris duhon, and maybe earl watson would be realistic choices.
This team doesn't need Steve Nash. The ideal PG for this team is quick, long, can hit the open shot and play great defense. The best player to fit those attributes to me is Tony Parker. He's faster than Deron Williams and seems to have "true range" which is decent from 3pt range but gets nasty good just inside the 3pt line, as opposed Deron's "lucky range" which is where he double-pumps from 30ft out and banks it in at the buzzer. I don't know how he does it, but my money is not on him keeping it up with his form. Nash is too slow and not long enough to be ideal. We don't need someone with crazy court vision who can make the "thread the needle" pass in the lane like Nash and Kidd have, we just need someone to set up the offense and not turn it over.
You're right. Nash would be a great player for the Rockets. With a few trades, maybe our line up could be: PG: Nash / CP3 / DWill SG: Kobe / Wade SF: Lebron / Anthony PF: KG / Amare C: Yao / DHoward This may be the only hope that Yao has to make it out of the first round.
Except he can shoot very well which would help spread the floor. The only other guy with a real good jumper is DWill. I mean if nash was open on the 3 point line I am sure he is hitting at 50%+ clip.
With iso players like Tracy & Ron Ron that need to handle the ball a lot, a non-mobile center like Yao and a coach who's system values ball movement instead of one player dribbling around, I don't think Nash or Chris Paul are perfect fits for our team. Both need the ball to be most effective. At PG, we need: 1 A good ball-handler/passer who can initiate the offense. 2 Someone who moves well WITHOUT the ball and can slash for layups (or just finish at the rim), come off picks & drill open jumpers and shoot a good percentage as a 4th/5th option. Being able to drive and dish would help. Doesn't need to be a dynamic offensive player but at least forces the defense (especially the opposing PG) to account for them. 3 A good defender who can at least make other PGs work hard for their points 4 With the personalities and talent we have, a PG who is even-tempered, consistent and predictable. With Rafer we get #1 but lack in #s 2-4. Chauncey Billups would fit the bill but he's clearly over the hill, has an expensive contract and would cost us a key player. I would consider giving up Shane for him. If you want to look at guys without considering the cost in a trade, try Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Jose Calderon, Andre Miller, Rajon Rondo (the regular season version that nailed mid-range jumpers with confidence). Like I said in another thread, count me as one who doesn't think AB is a good fit until he can regularly drill open jumpers and finish when he attacks. We don't need an MVP candidate at PG. But we can't afford to get demolished at the position on such a regular basis. Is the PG equivalent to Scola out there somewhere?
Best fit for the Rockets right now in the NBA... Chauncy Billups "One of the best and strongest point guards in the NBA... Tough competitor... Likes to hit the three... Can break down defenses off the dribble... Can post up other point guards... Makes no mistake from the charity stripe... Probably the best defensive point guard in the NBA... A clutch player." http://hoopshype.com/players/chauncey_billups.htm - Excellent court vision - Handles the ball very well - Good 3 point shooter - Can get to the rim and break down the defense - High percentage FT shooter - Great perimeter defender Also his contract is pretty good 3 years 36 mil with team option on the 4th at 14 mil. Good deal for a guy who is only going to turn 32 next month. I wish we the pieces to trade for him. Detroit is on a slow decline and their championship core is getting old and worn out. I wouldn't be surprised if they had bad season and fell to the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoffs picture.
so...tmac doesnt start for us? are you high? why would you make a thread like this? my perfect starting 5 for the rockets pg chris paul sg kobe bryant sf lebron james pf kevin garnett c yao ming (dwight howard if yao gets injured again) morey make it happen. next thread
Unfortunately Kirk Hinrich will never be on this team with a $10,000,000 salary! We have to spend money to resign Artest first next year and that doesn't leave room for another $10 mil player. And we are not gonna give up Battier to get him. We won't trade Rafer for him because he knows this offense too well and bringing in a brand new point guard would mean a longer transition for the team to gel. The best we can hope for is a Steve resurrection or another good backup like Delonte West or something. Barbosa would have been great...but that aint happening either now.
did this thread topic get its name changed from perfect point guard to your perfect dream somewhere the middle or something?? I say throw in After Burner at the beginning of the preseason and hopefully midway through he will have our offense down pact and will have learned from experience how to be a good passing guard! He is already hella fast, a good dribbler and at least at college level was a good finisher and shooter. He isnt gonna get better sitting down refilling Gatorade cups!! I guess I'm just one of the ones who believe in AB, just needs NBA experience...
You guys don't like Wade? Wade is the only one can win in this league single-handedly and he proved that. I'd take Wade's FTA over Nash's inflated stats.
