And that's all you're going to get.

Proving that, when basso said "no one can argue with the seriousness of the GOP House proposal." it was because he has neither the intention, nor the ability to do so. Which is about as useful as proving the sun comes up, tide goes out...O'Reilly style....never a miscommunication.

They wouldn't have to go back and forth between themselves if the OP stuck around to debate and discuss the material they posted.

What I find amusing is the one person probably most infamous on the board for not debating or discussing topics he himself brings up including this one is commenting on the lack of debate.

This is why I have no faith in republicans to balance the budget. It has become obvious that most republicans do not care about the people. I use to be a republican/libertarian myself but when I see these fools trolling around attacking the weak and the elderly instead of attacking the military industrial complex it dumbfounds me.

    LOL!!!

    from TPM this morning --

Heritage Foundation Removes Unemployment Data From Budget Study

Apparently, the Heritage Foundation isn't comfortable being the butt of economists' jokes after boldly predicting a 2.8% unemployment rate in 2021 if the House GOP Budget is enacted. The think tank has removed the number from its study posted online.

There you have it. I would like to have the Christian pastors who push the GOP explain why this is what Jesus would do in one of the richest countries in the world?

Can some of the Christian GOP'ers on the bbs it give it a whirl?

They don't have to explain it to seniors. Seniors won't be affected. They're only screwing over future seniors, most of whom probably don't care yet.

Every single Democrat voted against the bill. Are the right wingers going to be whining that Republicans are shutting Democrats out of the debate the way they whined during the last two years when bills were passed with total opposition by Republicans?

As somebody said recently, nothing epitomizes the new Can't Do spirit of America quite like Republican budgets.

Oh that's right. I keep forgetting they'll all be rich and not have to worry about it.

Please explain how you plan to pay for Medicare then. More specifics would be helpful.

Most bills regarding reforming Medicare and Social Security have said that current seniors would be grandfathered in (pun intended). That hasn't stopped the AARP from getting up in arms about it.

What the Republicans need to worry about is the people like the old lady who showed up at Tea Party protests with a sign saying "Government hands off my Medicare" that shows how paranoid the sentiment is out there regarding any possible changes to Medicare.

I agree in principle that Medicare needs to be reformed but I don't think that the Republicans are serious about this proposal and if actually had a chance to pass I doubt they would be pushing this particular plan.

As Pgab said lowering overall healthcare costs are going to help. I also think there should be means testing and raising the eligibility age will help greatly. Privatizing it as Ryan is proposing is a bad idea.

I just don't understand the justification for this at all. If you want to make seniors pay more out of pocket for their medical expenses, that's one thing. But at the same time, to change the system so that the money that is spent by the government is given to a third party with higher overhead and profit motives makes no sense at all if reducing spending is your top priority.

Keep Medicare public and you can either give more care to seniors for the same price or you can give them the same level of support as in the Ryan plan at a cheaper cost.

Yeah what a practically solution. All you have to do is lower the cost of health care. Why didn't I think of that?

That's probably because you are looking at this in a very limited way. One reason why our health costs are so high is that our current system has many problems that with. Things like making sure more people are insured will control cost as currently where the uninsured can still get emergency care even if they can't pay is one of the most inefficient ways of providing care. It also means that rather than taking advantage of preventive people hold off getting medical care until things become an emergency which is the most expensive situation to get care in.

having more babies won't work. it'll just run the deficit up even more because most of them will be aborted.

too many retirees to workers,............hmmmmm, so how many abortions have been performed since Roe vs. Wade????
