Or maybe they just like Whitmore and want to jump Detroit, who is also likely going forward, to guarantee getting him. I'm not gonna act like there isn't some wishful thinking involved or that it wouldn't be a risk to trade down. People act like drafts go exactly as the mocks have them, when that is rarely the case. I would rate it this way personally 1. Amen at 6, Hendricks at 7 2. Trade back, lose Amen, take best available forward at 6, PG at 11 3. Take Amen at 4, best available at 20
I don't even like Scoot that much, but he would definitely be in the discussion for best player on our roster, depending on who we have to trade to get him, on day 1. Our front office doesn't have the relationships to figure out what teams 4-8 are going to do, so trading down spots in hopes we get our guy + some is risky.
I like the players you’re getting back, but I think Amen will be gone by #6. However, you can follow through with everything else there by taking Black. Unfortunately, I think we are going to need to move the needle a little more on draft day (or before) if we want a chance at any decent free agents. If we come out of this draft with Black, Hendricks and McConnell, we aren’t luring free agents here. There needs to be some sort of vet presence here prior to free agency.
I like trading down. This draft has a lot of question marks around the top, IMO. Wembayama, Scoot, Amen, Miller, Whitmore, none of them are sure things. These are all projects, with serious risks. Getting 6 & 11, for example, plus 20 gives you more shots on goal, with some higher floor players. I like Hendricks, Lively, Hawkins, Podziemski, Walker and Wallace. These are all sure-fire starters or at least rotation NBA players, and some of them can develop along the overlooked-to-AllStar pathway like Booker, Kawhi and many others…
plow on the beam again all the juice is in a trade down (and also out) hendricks black coulibaly lively podziemski
I saw one of our insiders saying the Rockets really like Anthony Black, who is also a big point guard that can create and defend multiple sized players. If, for whatever reason, they prefer Black to Thompson then it would make complete sense to trade back to take him. Whether that be to Indiana for Turner and #7 or Orlando for 6 & 11 or 6 and a future pick. Whatever. I really like Anthony Black too, but he's of course not anywhere near the freak athlete that Amen is. But last year was another year I was wrong. I'd have gone Chet, then Jabari then Paolo. And in year 1 it seems like that should be totally reversed. So I'm fine with which ever of these guys the Rockets believe in.
Both Amen and Anthony Black cannot shoot. I seen Anthony many times playing in the SEC and he just does not have IT. He is a good player, passer, vision and feel for the game….but he just does not have it. During the Arkansas vs Alabama game, Brandon Miller did two isolation plays against Anthony Black in the 4th quarter, and made Anthony look like a fool. Wemby, Scoot and Amen can be elite players from this draft. Jalen, Sengun, Jabari, Tari and Amen could be a great team in the future…..hahahaha SUPERTEAM? PG: Amen SG: Jalen SF: Tari PF: Jabari C: Alperen However the CBA will destroy that dream
