Oh stop it, I never said she was dumb or stupid, or small town folks are not smart.....I was saying that I want a President that is less black and white and understands the world is full of shades of gray.

Huh....there are things about what she did that appeal to me, but she is not going to be in a position to do those things as the VP.

I am sure you are an intelligent person, now you need to work on context and comprehension.

Here we agree, it is all political rhetoric.....I hate the 2 party system......I want a common sense party.

That should be the way everyone does it, and I doubt everyone agrees with all the policies of each party, I certainly don't.

I agree with the article too. I have never donated my time or money to a political party but what I heard last night motivated me to do it for Obama.

It was pretty good I think, but it did not change my mind. I think it is sort of like the other thread said about the Mccain strategy though. Do not talk about the issues but make it a style debate.

I've watched the speech three times (really 2 and listened 1). The more I hear the more it just sounds like smart ass, sarcastic, arrogant rant instead of anything with substance. I'm still not sure what to make of it.

AP: Did some fact checking. Not too good for Palin's speech.
    **********

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

She threw lots of raw meat to the crowd, a few funny lines, but no substance whatsoever.

This election still comes down to the middle. Do the independents and moderates on both sides believe in Mccain/Palin or Obama/Biden. I hope the middle is tilting Obama's way because another four years of Repulbican rule would be really bad for the country IMO. Mccain might not have been a bad choice at another time period but not now.

Good article Glynch. I was stunned that they still opted to throw the Bridge to Nowhere line in the speech. Did the McCain campaign miss the fact that the whole nation (even Fox News!) had realized she was for it? Sheesh.

The earkmarks thing doesn't matter to me. Earmarks are an important part of government and I don't understand why Republicans are being stupid right now attacking them. Also, most states don't have the type of issues to contend with that hers does. A road in Alaska is probably more expensive to build then a road in Texas. Probably.

The reason she can get away with the Bridge to Nowhere, is that the majority of the people in this country will not research it or her and take it at face value.

Remember George W and his we have to attack Iraq because of their involvement in 9-11?

My father parrotted that garbage and I had to set him straight.

People are lazy when it comes to informing themselves.

Well there are many many people in this country who have no idea about political issues, this forum is the exception not the rule.

You are right -- a lot more women have moved (or are moving) Republican after the Obama camp's sexist attacks on Hillary and now Palin. Maybe you missed that onslaught.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Even Cooper and Campbell Brown from CNN stated she hit a home run, or "grand slam"....

I'm am so freaking IMPRESSED! I loved the delivery, and how natural, and calm she appeared...Heck, even Biden is pissing in his pant....FREAKING IMPRESSIVE!

I loved how she paid homage to Truman and the democrats of that one time nobility (rather than the ugly, non-decision deciding "Progressives" the party has changed to...)...as well as her pretty good experience...

yes I'm biased and in love with her, but when even the liberal media is taken aback...WOW....what else is there to say....Here she comes!

I didn't vote in the poll because it wasn't a "good" speech -- it was a magnificent speech.

True, there wasn't much substance in it, but this morning I can remember at least 20 lines from memory. Obama gave a great speech as well, but now I can't remember even one line.

She is going to cause Obama real problems with small towns and small states, and she resonated with women. I've talked to three women dispatchers in three different states, and all they could do was "ooh" and "ahh" over the "he's my guy" and "the cute little baby." I realize that is a rediculously small sample, but it provides some clues.

As I have said in other threads, Sarah Palin, at this point, looks like she is going to be a force.

Maybe temporarily until they realize that she is a wacked out right wing evangelical nutjob who is pro life even in the case of rape.

You guys are desperate, you had your 8 years....SCREWED it up...and now your party is crumbling....

I was shocked that the RNC went past 11pm last night, people must have made a run at Lubys early...

The Republican party used to be about Blue Bloods.....now it is all Blue hairs.

I've heard this line of argument before but there isn't much evidence that without Perot Clinton wouldn't have won. From what I recall during the 1992 election when Perot dropped out for a month or so Clinton still kept his lead.

I'm sorry to butt into you and Batman's side off topic discussion but I am somewhat incredulous about this. You have previously said that you believe in an Al Qaeda - Iraq connection prior to 9/11 and in another thread even noted that there may be secret information out there that woudl support that. Are you now saying tha the President was misled by secret information that was really misinformation?

In otherwords are you saying that there was a conspiracy to misinform the President and as such your own view was based on that misinformation that is found in secret documents?

Perot lost because of his stance against NAFTA, abolition of the Electoral College and his Campaign Reform platform. Looks like he was right about NAFTA and had he won getting rid of the Electoral college, Al Gore would've been President instead of GWB.
