The verdict is in, and it was a good speech. It's more than 3:1 in favor of among undecided, a lower 2.5:1 against of among Obama crowd. Not to mention the overwhelming number in Rep crowd. What you party crowds are saying really don't count.
I'd hit it...oh wait...I thought she did a great job of introducing herself and letting it be known who she is and what she stands for... A great start and if she can perform well in debates, we are in...She can appeal to many many voters....
Not sure if this was posted yet, very interesting numbers i think. From Drudge... 37,244,000 WATCHED PALIN SPEECH ... [38,379,000 WATCHED OBAMA]...
regardless of what party you are supporting, she is VERY VERY new and the hype around her is huge. those ratings were expected. this is someone you didn't know 5 days ago. she's also very telegenic. however, it's good more people watched her b/c unless you're a conservative, you were turned off highly at the content.
Independents from a Michigan focus group were unimpressed: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080903/NEWS15/80904002 Sarah Palin came across as the small town girl who made good. I knew that I disagreed with her on some issues before this evening. After listening to her speech … it appears that once she makes up her mind, that is the end of it. We live in a gray world, not every answer is black and white. -- Diane Murphy, 42, Sterling Heights independent “I was completely underwhelmed. She was a Republican novelty act with a sophomoric script. It was not even a speech I would expect for a someone running for the local PTA, much less for vice president.” -- George Lentz, 66, Southfield independent “Who is Sarah Palin? I'm sorry but I still don't know anymore about this young lady tonight than I did last night ... The way it looks to me, she's the Republican vice presidential nominee for one reason: because Hillary wasn't selected.” -- Mike Kosh, 38, West Bloomfield independent "Sarah Palin is a self-described ‘pitbull with lipstick.’ She spent little time helping Americans learn who she is. She is a cool, poised speaker, but her speech contained few statements about policy or the party platform. … I am not convinced that Palin's experience as a mayor or governor in Alaska meet the qualifications to be vice president much less one stroke or heart attack away from being commander in chief.” -- Ilene Beninson, 52, Berkley independent “Nothing worked for me. I found her barrage of snide remarksand distortions to be a major turn off. She is not a class act. The most important point she made is that she will be an effective attack dog.” -- Jan Wheelock, 58, Royal Oak independent “Sarah got as much applause as Hillary did, and had a friendly, appealing appearance. Her delivery style reminded me of a high school valedictorian who also might have been a cheerleader. I thought she would appear more professional, more stateswomanly. She's no match for Joe Biden.” -- Joellen Gilchrist, 64, Beverly Hills independent
You know, I wish the poll had more options, because I'm neutral, and while I didn't think the speech was all that great, I also thought her main goal was to simply not f--k it up. Therefore I voted for "good." But honestly, the speech did come off as somewhat negative and didn't really affect my future vote one way or another. There really should have been an "okay" option on the poll.
I disagree. She may or may not run, I really don't know. But if they get trounced in the general, or she gets crucified in debates and the media continues to crush her, four years may not be long enough to erase the memory.
If he wins I think it's a lock she runs in 12 because I don't think McCain will be seeking re-election.
Even as a left-leaning political observer, I thought it was a dynamite speech, given the expectations and the crowd. She did what she had to do in bringing some fresh blood into a ticket and party that has been getting stale. However, she clearly chose to throw some blows, so she better be ready to get some back as she is taken away from a teleprompter and friendly confines and up against it in the general election campaign.
The question was would she run in 2012 if McCain loses, and this was your response? Good grief you make no sense. For this to happen, Obama would have to NOT run, despite being the sitting president. Wow, you are a rookie in the most generous sense of the word.... Or are you going on record stating that Bob Barr or Ralph Nader will score the UPSET OF THE CENTURY? HILARITY
If Obama defeats McCain you think Hillary will be the Dem candidate in 12? Not much faith in Obama eh?
Listing to it from the radio she sound like a librarian, but that won’t matter anyway because a new scandal just broke on here today.
I think he meant exactly what he stated, in contrast to insinuation and appeals to humans' capacity to be driven by inertia or fear = conservative bias. For example, never let a solid fact (Al Queda wasn't in Iraq) get in the way of what you want to do-- whether be the motives are for revenge, profit, ones sense of importance, etc. j/k, sorta.
even if obama wins, i'm just saying hillary set herself up for a bright political future. what bush left is hell for the next president and i doubt any candidates right now can fix it in the next 10 years. i'm just stating that this country is great b/c of the democratic process. it's like boston celtics fans saying watch out for the rockets next yr.
