Well I'm a big Spacey fan as well and when I sit around talking about great actors, his name comes up. Sorry if I "jumped down your throat" but in my opinion, winning an Oscar is a HUGE honour and goes a long way to allaying any notion of being underrated. ------------------ Maybe all the rulers are wrong. spacey's actually won two oscars, and i think the vast majority of filmgoers worth their salt would place him among the greats of his generation. i certainly don't think he's, by any stretch of the imagination, underrated or unappreciated, especially if you go by volume of work since about 1996. he's in just about every other movie. ------------------ Ric http://www.houstonprofootball.com
I think there should only be one measure of a movie, did the people who went and paid eight bucks enjoy the experience. I don't care if the cinemetography is better in one movie or an actor had a more challenging role in another. Movies are for entertainment. When I went to see Gladiator, I left the theater feeling like I had gotten my money's worth. To me, the award does not go to these types of movies enough. I thought Traffic was a horrible movie, just as I thought Titanic was. I don't care if the movie is formulaic, look at the Star Wars Trilogy. Those are, imho, some of the best movies ever made, even if New Hope and Return of the Jedi were completely predictable. Sometimes Hollywood just gets too full of itself. Shanna: The reason the Academy is wrong is because Gladiator was nothing but a fun, summer flick. It wasn't a "good film." I went to see it to enjoy some massive battles, heroic banalities, and manly struggles. Crowe was good in the role, but it wasn't a hard role. The script was terrible. ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
I see your point. I guess, he's not like a matinee leading man type guy, and I guess he could be, imo. Davo, sorry I jumped down your throat. He could've won for L.A. Confidential or The Insider, but he didn't. That doesn't mean he should win over four much more deserving actors this year. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
