I'm wondering how Republicans can rebrand themselves into a more respectable platform when George W Bush burned that big tent to the ground with profligate spending, government expansion and overreach...as a result from government incompetence, and massive war losses. Do they pretend Congress never existed to sign those checks, and then turn it all into a dream...a low effort big budget reboot of 2 decade old disaster that we're still paying and haven't even begun to work on the principal? I guess you double down on Trump then...
The bill in Florida like these others that are popping up are massive virtue signals to their base, a big chunk of their base has a fantasy that they could force Christian Nationalism on the country and will drool at the mouth with any step they think brings the USA closer to that because they know they lose in open debate on social issues quite easily so shut it down. Don't say Gay, don't talk about it, put it all in the closet and it goes away. That's why it is vague, it doesn't even really do anything outside of 'Own the libs' which I've seen so many on twitter happy about. "This is really owning the libs!" which is a good chunk of the younger GOP base now, just people that think politics is some huge trolling war and owning the libs is the most important thing a politician can do...and give their hardcore religious base an imagined victory because those people DO think that if you just ignore gay people then they will stop existing. These people really do believe that schools and media is why there are more gay people...they don't think well maybe there aren't more gay people but more people classifying themselves as such because they feel safe to do so as opposed to 60 years ago when we had stuff like this... But really all this bill does is as pointed out give the government more control over children, which, many on the right are 100% behind.
