If there were only one issue on Tues. and it was the war no terror, that would be a huge enough landslide for the Dems to take over the House of Reps. for sure. I believe the war on Iraq is probably a bigger issue for most voters, and it likewise will be a big enough issue to enable the Dems. to take over the house of reps. On either issue the GOP are the bigger losers and send the nation in the wrong direction.
Other areas of Iraq, Kuwait, and send some back into Afghanistan so that we don't lose that, and can focus on terror. In addition the Dems plan would also bring in additional troops from the region itself.
If the War on Terror is the only issue, Republicans are screwed. http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/06/poll.congress/index.html A majority, 58 percent, said that a Democratic Congress would move the economy in the right direction, compared to 43 percent who said a Republican Congress would help the economy, according to the telephone poll of 1,008 adult Americans, which was carried out Friday through Sunday by Opinion Research Corp. Fifty-four percent of respondents said a Democratic Congress would move the Iraq war in the right direction, compared to 34 percent who said a Republican Congress would do the same. (Poll results -- PDF) Fifty-five percent said a Democratic Congress would move the country in the right direction on the issue of terrorism, compared to 47 percent who said that a GOP Congress would do the right thing on terrorism. On the question of taxes, Democrats bested Republicans 49 percent to 37 percent when those surveyed were asked who would do a better job.
He who? Card, or someone else? giddy, there have been dicussions, in the past, about redeploying some of our forces to Okinawa from South Korea, in order to get them farther away from NK's conventional rocket and artillery forces. An idea that makes a certain amount of sense, as long as enough US forces are left in SK to act as a "trip wire," to discourage an attack. They would also be in the region in case they were needed for other potential "hot-spots." This has been in train for a few years. Many Democrats, and some Republicans, want to do the same kind of thing with regard to Iraq. Not anything new or radical as an idea, and the sort of strategic deployments that have been done by powers great and small for centuries. All the frantic cries of "cut and run" by the Administration and the GOP are fabrications, designed to attempt to frighten people, like our own basso, when in reality it is a very old formula for power projection, supported by both parties at different times of our history. I could give many examples, and I'm sure you could think of several yourself. By the way... I think some of those forces meant to be re-deployed in the region close to NK may now be in the Middle East. Could be wrong about that. Perhaps someone could check. Had an operation today, and can't see a damn thing, not to mention having a lack of energy. Iraq has acted as an enormous drain, sucking our available military around the world into it's vortex of violence without end, incompetent leadership from the top, unchecked. We are weaker as a great power because of it. Anyone with a pair of eyes and an interest in world affairs can see it, in my opinion. Keep D&D Civil.
No biggie, I guess. Cataract surgery. I just hate going to hospitals, didn't get any sleep last night, and have this stupid patch on one eye so large that I can't wear the awful glasses I've got that at least give me tunnel vision. I've been using the election coverage on the tube like a radio. You know what a political junkie I am (we both are, lol!), and not being able to see is driving me nuts. Not sure how I'm managing doing this. Guess I know a keyboard better than I thought. Should get the patch removed tomorrow, and then at least one eye will be great, and I'll be a happy camper. Hopefully, no more of these killer headaches I've been having. It's a miracle I haven't gotten myself booted the last several weeks. Thanks for the concern. Keep D&D Civil.
My dad went through Cataract surgery last year. Had both done six months apart from each other. He says it’s the best thing he's ever did. Opened up a whole new world! No headaches, and the vision of a 40 year old.
With the constant headaches I get, someone recommended that I get checked for this exact thing. I have perfect vision but sometimes if my eyes get strained my vision can get a little blurry. Not to derail the thread but what were the symptoms that you experienced?
Good luck on your recovery. I'm sure your glad that the surgery part is over, anyway. Feel better Deck.
I was going to write something snarky for Basso but I'm sure he's got enough grief and anxiety on his plate. I'll just say though get well Deckard. You should look into getting some replicant eyes.
