had anyone else ever seen this slick meneuver? I myself never really thought about it till I saw it, then I was like, "Why have I never seen this before?" I always see the players just relax in anticipation of a timeout, and ias long as I've been watching basketball, I've never seen it, so I guarantee the players don't think about it. Not that its that important, but it was worth three points as Blake was fouled on the play. As much as I was ashamed we fell for it, I must admit it was brilliant, and worked to perfection. The other side of me says that if the Blazers are now relying on trickery, they really are desperate. Thoughts?

Brotha Ishtar, I have never seen it either.

It reminded me of a fumblerooskie (sp?) or a fake spike in football.

And yes, I think the Blazers are desperate. But whatever they try in game five, Houston must stay ready and awake for the full game.

Yeah, I liken it up to Marino's fake spike play in 93.

I didn't see McMillan's reaction. Was he pissed Blake didn't call a timeout? I doubt that was a designed play...

seen it, the Rockets themselves have done it before, although it might just be a player doing it, and not a designed play. I think for us it was Cassel ?

This. Blake just saw our defense resting and just drove to the hoop for an open layup instead of calling the TO.

a ton of PGs go for it. they'll run up, sometimes turn for the timeout and then turn back and see if they can "do a blow-by" (as clyde would say).. and if there's still resistance or a man underneath, they stop and call it. Or they'll run up as everyone else is walking towards the bench and keep sprinting to the basket before having someone else call it.

It's not trickery, and it's nothing new.. just don't relax until the whistle blows.

It happened once before during a Rockets game. I think the Rockets pulled it off many years ago...I can't remember exactly if it was Maxwell, Steve, Kenny, Sleepy, or Sam...maybe someone else remembers

I don't remember ever seeing this before, but I applaud them for it.

Lesson learned, don't stop until the whistle blows.

It may be sneaky, but its sneaky-smart. If you can get fouled or get by and get a layup like last night. Those points could be the difference in a game, especially in the playoffs... every single point counts.

except that marino was a player on the field and not a coach in a suit on the sidelines.
