umm yeah and that's why i said my original plan of lining up at 6:00 pm would be pointless. all the walmarts i've called have already given out tickets to people in line so there's no point in showing up anymore. for those going in the morning, target's gonna open up early at eight.
cool. thanks for the heads up. me at Sams me bro at CompUSA me wifey at Target freakin EB ruined my whole day today.
PDZ gets a 9.0 from Gamespot: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/perfectdarkzero/review.html So it looks like the PDZ rollercoaster will end on a high note. Now I'm just curious to see some King Kong reviews since that might be another one of the top-rated games for the 360 at launch. And since I'm mentioning reviews from GS, they also gave a 6.6 to Quake IV: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/quake4/review.html?sid=6140243
Check out this guys blog as he waits in line. I'm guessing he'll keep updating it though the night. http://www.thedesertsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051121/UPDATE/51121005 6:31 p.m. The Xbox is coming! The Xbox is coming! Well, it’ll be here in a little less than six hours and I can’t wait to get off work to get into line. I must have mine tonight! Why? Because I don’t want to wait until Christmas to stand in even longer lines, praying to get one. Instead, I want to be snuggled up in front of my TV punching away at my controller blowing things to bits. Doesn’t that sound like a lot more fun? I think so. Now, I have no guarantees I’ll get one tonight (12:01 a.m. at Wal-Mart Supercenter store), but that’s why there’s always the chance to get one tomorrow morning too (starting at 8 a.m. at Target and 10 a.m. at Circuit City). It’s like a treasure hunt for the technophile in you. Did I mention that I really want one tonight? 7 p.m. Woo-hoo! It's 7 p.m. and I've escaped to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Palm Springs. I'm 14th in line behind Alan Riddle of Cathedral City who got here 20 minutes before me. But I just got bad news: They only have six premium systems and I'm eight people too far! The store only has 16 units. What to do? Do I stick with the core system? Do I try going to La Quinta? Decisions, decisions in the quest for the coolest high-tech toy of the season. Check back in with me later! 7:23 p.m. Well, my thoughts of leaving for the La Quinta Wal-Mart came crashing to a halt when Sarah Burford of Palm Springs tells me that they already closed the line and sold out. I'm here in Palm Springs and I'm in for the long haul! I'll let you know what happens next. 7:50 p.m. Ryan Harris, 27, of San Bernardino, is first in line and picked Palm Springs Wal-Mart Supercenter because there were already 30 people in line at 10 a.m. at the San Bernardino store. Ryan arrived at 1 p.m. with his friend Thomas Shay. Both are getting premium systems. Oh how I envy them! 8:03 p.m. Ok, it's 8:03 and a Wal-Mart employee came out to give us some good news. There are still only 6 premium systems. Boo!!! But, there are now 12 core systems! Lucky for those people braving the cold behind me. 8:37 p.m. Anthony Holm, 24, of Palm Springs is standing in line four spots behind me and wants one for his brother. Holm works at Circuit City in Palm Desert, but isn't allowed to buy one there. They only have 14 for tomorrow. Gah! I don't think I could be that close to them and then have to go to another store to buy mine. It's cold out here! I knew I should have taken a jacket with me today, but I figured I was in the desert. The line has grown to 24 people. I wonder if they know there are only 18? Maybe they're hoping someone goes home from being too cold. I would! Editor's note: It is now 64 degrees in Palm Springs. 8:53 p.m. Skyler Rice, 22, of Carbondale, Illinois just moved to Palm Springs and is being paid $60 to stand in line by his friend Modesto. Damn! I didn't even think of that earlier today. What a good idea. Everyone is chatting about how many units will be at other stores tomorrow. The wait is awful. Ryan turns out to be very cool. His friend brought him a big pizza box full of cheese breadsticks and he shared with everyone in line. Mmmmm......warm cheesy goodness. 9:28 p.m. OK, some good news and some bad news. First, the bad news. I went to my car searching for a jacket and ended up finding only spare shirts. Bummer! Ah well, I tossed them on anyways. It's much better now. The good news. I found my PSP in the trunk! Now, I have access to movies and music too. Time to watch some House of Flying Daggers. Only 2.5 hours to go! Hopefully they give us some wristbands in an hour so we can enjoy the inside of the Wal-Mart. 9:49 p.m. So, some official looking Wal-Mart people came out to do a head count. Turns out there are people standing in line who aren't going to buy units. Wow! Because of that they told us they'd be giving us numbers soon to figure out who will and who won't get an Xbox tonight. 10:25 p.m. Still no numbers but that's OK. The line continues to grow as people are hoping to get one tonight. Over 35 people are in line now and more people are showing up. 10:31 p.m. Yay! I've got my number and am assured to get a core system tonight. So, I didn't get the cool premium system, but it's better to have something better than nothing. Now, I just have to wait 91 minutes to get it! Editor's note: Check back to find out if James succeeds in his quest -- and introduce yourself if you see him in line.
It basically just doesn't come with a HD (which is needed for BC and other things) or with a wireless controller (wired instead) IIRC. I want to say the premium disc tray is platinum as well. Besides that, I think they throw in some extra junk into the premium SKU, but nothing really worth it besides the things I just mentioned. The system itself is the same though.
dont forget the remote control in which i hear is only available for the first few batches of the platinums.
A guy in my dorm just got his tonight. Man...those jerseys moving independently of the bodies in NBA 2k is so freakin' sweet. The sweat too. But still, I'll have to wait to see what PS3 can do. Doesn't mean I can't unexpectedly drop by his room from time to time.
WOW.. on my way to work today I drove by the CompUSA on Westheimer and close to Wilcrest and they had a line of about 50 people at 5:45am
My gf just picked up my Premium System at Sams Club. She got in an hour early @ 7am with a friend who used her Business Card. She got their at 5:45am. There were some people in line. She asked if they were in line for the Xbox360. A man said, "Yes, but they only have 20 and all 20 are spoken for" She said she was about to cry She drove down the street to Target. She said it looked like the Katrina Evacuee Camp at the Super Dome. She asked a person in line there and he rudely said, "They only have 10, but clearly there are already more people in line than that, so take your chances!" She was determined to go back to Sams and not be intimidated by the people already in the shorter line telling her they were spoken for. The Sams Club guy came out and said "This is how we are going to do it": -You can only get in the store if its YOUR picture on the Sams Club Business Card! -You can only purchase ONE Xbox360 PER BUSINESS!!! NOT PER CARD!!! (woo hoo! ) After that a verbal fight broke out with a lot of yelling and $@&%*^#'ing because a bunch of guys had just gone up their yesterday to get their business cards, (they got 8 of them for the same business) and I guess their plan was to buy them all (yes, all 20!!!, to re-sell i suppose) But they got shut down by Sams Club ROFL And Sams Club had to call the cops because they were so irrate and causing a scene. HAHAHA They were like "FUDGE" SAMs CLUB!!! "FUDGE" SAMs CLUB!!! and demanded refunds for their business cards they just bought yesterday. S U C K E R S ! ! ! ! ! The good news is I got mine, but I probably wont open it until Christmas. Knowing how much I want it, and how much trouble she went through, my gf thinks its the perfect Christmas gift. She already bought me some games as well: Call of Duty 2 Perfect Dark NBA Live 06 Madden 06 Tony Hawk No Biggie, In the meantime I will stick to Halo2. Im sure its still going to be my favorite game anyways until Halo3 comes out. p.s. Im expecting to see a few more hundred post like this today. GOOD LUCK MAN!
Great story Gummi. Now about that g/f......is there a sister? Preferably in her early 20s...drop dead gorgeous...and would do the same thing for me in a few months for the PS3?
WOOHOO! I got my Xbox this morning at 7:00AM at the Sam's Club at El Dorado & 45. I showed up 6:45AM and was #21 of 25. They had 25 premium 360's bundled with an extra wireless controller and the "charge and play" accessory for $449.82. I have a co-worker who sat in line for 12 hours at Circuit City overnight for his, mine took 15 minutes BTW, I used my father's Sam's business card to get in at 7:00am.
Picked mine up last night at EB at midnight. Already had Madden and NBA2K, but picked up Perfect Dark Zero while I was there and planning to get Call of Duty as well but they were out of stock. Didn't get much time on it though. Any HDTV owners out there; I bought a 27" Panasonic Tau HDTV monitor and hooked the 360 up to it but all the text is blurry like hell. Any idea as to why that is? I would figure it should look damn good all around. I set the AV wire switch to HDTV as well as set the setting in the 360 to tell it I was on a 1080p HDTV. It's HIGHLY frustrating. Any ideas?
All you guys suck. I can't wait until my kids get old enough so I can justify buying these games for "them".
