I had mine since launch but only really showed it to my mom 1 time and she liked it. Since my whole family was together for Christmas, I brought it into the living room and played Trauma Center on it. My family was cracking up because I almost killed my patient. After that I got my dad to play some Wii Sports and boy did he like it. He's a man of few words, but he was all over the place with that game...even beat me in bowling and golf a couple of times. He ended up breathing pretty hard and even had to go turn the air conditioning up because he was getting worked up. We ended up playing for an hour and a half, which is an hour and a half longer than my dad has ever played a videogame. Then yesterday my dad wanted to show my sisters the pictures and video he had from the shuttle launch in Florida last week (he works for NASA) and I said "are they on an SD card? I can just put them on the TV". So we ended up using the Wii for that too. Then we went on youtube and looked at some funny videos for a little while. Basically, the last couple of days here have been like a Wii commercial
What will I need to connect my Wii to the internet once I get one? I have roadrunner digital calbe in my tv room (no modem).
Well, I finally hooked it up, and all I can say is...WOW !!! We are all hooked on Wii sports, and I am desperatly looking for more controllers. What a joy it is to play a truly uniqu gaming experience. How long until MS and Sony put out their comparible controllers, because the technology to make it happen is not all that ground breaking. All in all, the Wii is amazing....and the fact that I can hook up all my game cube stuff and play it as well....just makes it that much better. Santa was very good to our family this Christmas. Also, I heard the remote controller shortage will last until February, so I just bought 3 of them off of ebay...I can't wait that long. Also, I just ordered the component cables to play the Wii in High def....I can't wait. DD
My son has been hooked since he got it yesterday. We have bowled a ton. He is 6 and is bowling in the 170's. I'm significantly older and can only manage to get it to about 140 MEOWGI-- You'll need some sort of internet connection, Roadrunner or DSL. Once you have that set up you can go one of two routes. You can get a wireless router that will hook into the modem from your internet connection or you can try and find the Wii dongle (not even sure if they are out yet). That will connect directly to the cable or DSL modem.
How do I hook the Wii wirelessly to the internet? I have a Linksys G router, do I need anything else? DD
It worked like a champ, other than me having to get my WEP code from my router... This thing is really well designed. DD
You know how back in the day (I'm 28 now), you would have your friends over and play nintendo all night long. Like 10 of us used to get togehter and play Hang Time or Mario Cart or something on N64 pretty much all night long. Have not done that in about 10 years though. Till the Wii came out that is. Most of my friends came over at 2 yesterday. We play till 2AM. It was a blast. Wii tennis is BEYOND AWESOME!!!!! Will golf is my favorite, but slow if more then 2 people are playing. Wii bowling seemed boring when I first got it, but it is AWESOME with alot of people. Wii Baseball kicks ass! Wii Boxing is kinda boring. Maybe because I only have one nunchuck. I haven't even started playing Zelda yet!
I'm 36 and my bro brought a Wii over for Thanksgiving. It reminded me of when Atari 2600 first came out and everyone sat around taking turns playing Tank, Pong, and Space Invaders. People aged 12-62 were playing Wii and having a blast.
I'll say this again for the sake of those that haven't seen it earlier in the thread. The Wii had a problem with networking, but it is easily fixed. If your Wireless Router is set to any channel other than 1 (or 11) the Wii would not make a connection for updates. If you continuously get an error when making updates you may need to check that. Once I switched mine it worked perfectly. Now if I could get people that I added to my address book to confirm me, I could get a Mii Parade going
The funny thing is that the Wii is just a slightly upgraded GameCube...and most of the features are software related. That being said, they took an enormous risk, but in typical Nintendo fashion, they went for fun over graphics. The highest resolution they offer is 480p vs Xbox 1080i.....big advantage X-box....BUT....who cares? The Wii has very nice graphics and they are cartoony, so it is not that big of an issue. DD
I'm sad. I brought over some of my nephews (four of them) who live over a hour away to try out the Nintendo Wii. They didn't like it Their ages 10-14....whats wrong with them? They prefered Metal Slug over Wii Sports. I guess their in that age where they want to blow things up rather than flail their arms around?
