Had to do some grocery shopping today. Dropped off people to do the shopping and off I went in search of a Wii.
Sadly, I couldn't find any. Here are all the places I hit.
    Bestbuy on Gessner@59S
    Walmart on Beltway@Beechnut
    Walmart on 59S@Kirkwood
    Frys on 59S@Wilcrest
    Target on Westheimer near Fondren
    Walmart on Dunvale@Westheimer

I'm home now and probably will call around before I drive again. Hopefully have something tonight.

I pretty much called every Walmart, Target, and Best Buy on the west side of town and no good. Called Hempstead Walmart and Sealy Walmart even. I guess that's not far out enough. Tomball is a no go either.
Oh well. That's what I get for staying up late last night Photoshopping pictures for Fatty FatBastard. Couldn't wake up this morning to make the opening of the stores.

How long did it take for the rest of you to setup wireless internet on the Wii? Initially my router was broadcasting at 802.11g but the Wii wouldn't pick it up. I switched to "mixed" mode (802.11b + 802.11g, I think) and it was able to initiate a connection. After this it downloaded updates for the console, which took a while but I have no way to see how many MBs it downloaded, and now it's doing a channel update. Anyone else having similiar lag times or is this normal?

So, I just got back from a friend's place where he also had a Wii. We had four people there, and four Wiimotes with Nunchucks.

    Most fun ever!

Well, maybe not quite ever, but holy cow, we had a blast! This console really NAILS the multi-player element better than any other console ever. We played Wii Sports for a few hours (bowling and tennis are AWESOME multiplayer), then got in some Super Monkey Ball. That game has its hit and miss minigames, but on the whole, it was crazy-insane fun. ExciteTruck wasn't quite as much fun multi-player as I was expecting. IMO, skip this one.

The Wii is just so much fun for everyone -- it's the kind of thing where you could get a couple of friends together and play, or maybe your family, instead of watching a movie, etc. It really just kicks insane amounts of ass!

Wow...over 24k auction listings on ebay now. Average prices are $350-$400. I guess if you can't wait a few days and must have it now, you can buy one on ebay for $100 more and have it shipped overnight.

    This bid
hauled off 715 total for the core system + 1 extre wiimote.

If I knew it was gonna be that crazy I would've reserved one...

That was with the system, extra wiimote + nunchuk and 3 games.

    $250 + 59.99 + 149.99 = 459.99 before taxes. $500 with taxes and the winning bid was $675.

I was wondering if the winning bidder caught that too. You only get the 3 games if the bid hits past 900.

So my sister stopped by today (because she needed man power to move some crap into her apartment  ) and I showed her the system. The trick was that I just put the controller in her hand and said "move it around". Immediately she was flying through the menus, making a Wii, and kicking ass in golf (which I, a gamer, sucked at horribly) without any assistance from me.

She's 29 and literally hasn't played a console video game since Mario Bros. on the NES nearly 20 years ago, but as soon as she finished her first match of Wii Tennis, she smiled and said "I want one!". She wants me to tell my parents to make it her Christmas present now :D

Nintendo, your plan is working.

It looks like the news, weather and Internet channels aren't up yet. The Internet channel, from what I've read online, works when the user purchases the Opera browser via Wii points and downloads it for web browsing thru the tv and Wiimote. The weather channel should be free whenever the service begins. Not sure if the News channel will be free. I was looking at some of the virtual console games and it seems the average 'classic' game is about 1000 Wii points (or 10 bux). Not sure if I'll head in that direction just yet.

So far, I can see how the WiiConnect24 can be used to send messages, pictures and Miis to other Wii, cell phone and email users, but is it possible to do true online gaming against other people?

I went to two Targets this morning but missed out. But then I went to the Circuit City on San Felipe and 610 around 9 am, there was 2 other guys in line, got a voucher around 9:10 and picked it up at 10:30 when the store opened.

    Sweetness.

Only complaint so far is I can't get the internet connection to work. Seems like a lot of people are having the same error, though, and will try again tomorrow.

    Otherwise....well, already said it....sweetness.

It's so refreshing to have companies like Nintendo out there. They took a risk, a huge risk, but this thing is awesome. Only game I have right now besides Sports is Zelda because, let's be honest, it will be all consuming until complete, but I'm really wishing I had gotten COD3 or Red Steel....some kind of fighting/shooting game to take advantage of the Wii-mote awesomeness.

k after doing a bit of research to my own questions:

    a) the internet channel is not up yet. it will be free, until around june 07 or so.
    b) the blue light is only on when you first turn on the console, the intention is that you can see the slot loaded in low light situations [this does not however explain why it's under the wiiconnect24 menu in the system settings...I don't get it...I want it on when my console is on damnit!]

and to answer a question posted here earlier...
no current games have online multiplayer.
