Also, stats don't mean everything. Tmac plays within the flow of the offense now - Tmac really gets it and chooses to take over when he's needed. That might not be flashy nor do you get gaudy numbers when you're the team's most important cog while letting other players get theirs but you know what? We'll keep winning. I was browsing the nuggetts forum on Realgm and they would literally blow up their team to get someone with Tmac's basketball IQ, unselfishness, and passing ability. Both Melo and AI put up a lot of points but they wouldn't understand the team concept if it bit them in the ass.
if we finish with a top 3 seed, tmac's more of an MVP than kobe. the talent on that Lakers squad flat out crushes the Rockets sans-Yao on paper.
When will Tmac get some credit. He is a great "team" player, our team without him isn't as good as any of the other playoff teams without their best player but we seem to be doing very well. I'm just glad we didn't trade him for Michael Redd, Ray Allen, or Josh Howard like some people have suggested before Yao went down. His shooting touch and explosiveness might be lost but his passing from the wing position is only rivaled by the King himself.
TMac doesn't deserve to be MVP and Yao didn't either. This Rockets squad is all about the team. We have so many players stepping up night in and night out that even when we are missing one of the stars we continue to win. Can't say that about the Lakers or the Cavaliers. MVP will be Kobe - signed and delivered. No contest.
I agree with you.. if this was last year. But this year our team is just flat out better, he doesn't have to dominate for us to win games like he did when Yao went out last year, heck actually since TMac joined the Rockets organization.
No he isnt a candidate. If Tmac takes it back to his Orlando days or his first year with the Rox. Then we can talk about MVP caliber. Honestly though if the Rox advance deep into the playoffs you almost have to consider that he is definitely an intregal part since everyone else is just a role player. I really do believe in the Rox and if their offense consistently can hover 95-up then we are going deeper than anyone thought.
I'm sorry, but receiving valid MVP consideration is warranted only for full-season effort. Just because T-Mac turned it up for the first three games without Yao means nothing; in fact, McGrady might miss 3rd team All-NBA again.
You're right I wasn't saying he had to be vintage, 13 in 35 sec. tmac, I just think he gets all the criticism when we play badly but when we play well all I hear is: Scola for ROY Landry's a beast (player not the restaurant) Battier for DPOY It's just nice to see a thread that gives him props
You guys are such homers. T-Mac has been playing pretty good, but we're winning because of team effort. I wonder if we'd still be this good if even T-Mac went down.
Before the season even started I feel like they had already given it to Kevin Garnett. I think LeBron or Kobe deserves it, but KG will ultimately get it, IMO.
I doubt it. KG has been mostly underwhelming this year; it's not because of him that his team is winning. They play great D and have two other stars besides him. His abdominal injury and subsequent time in the IA certainly won't help his cause. Kobe is the leading candidate, IMO. He doesn't let his team lose. The media is making a big deal out of LeBron finally doing something in the 4th quarter, but the truth is that Kobe is still the league's most clutch player (and best overall). Kobe hasn't had to score as much in the 4th because they've been blowing people out of the water (unlike the Cavs). You ask anyone who'd they'd like to take the last shot of a game, 9 in 10 would say Kobe. If LeBron wins it this year, I'll be disgusted.
bron's averaging 31, 8, 7 dude. even when kobe had to do it himself he never put up those all-around stats. and he's putting up 10ppg in the 4th. kobe the past 2 yrs only put up around 9. kobe could be 1a and bron is 1b. but i truly think lebron is the best overall player right now. the way he took over v. the bulls was special too. those 2 guys are in another stratosphere right now.
Yawn. Regular season MVP means nothing. See: 2007 MVP, Dirk Nowitzki. I'll consider T-mac a regular season AND playoff MVP if he can carry this team past the first round this year.
kobe has the MVP on lock this year unless the media stay slurping lebrons jock for putting up insane stats on a borderline .500 team.
I love T-Mac and I am starting to believe he can lead us without Yao...but come on...he's not MVP, the Rockets are doing well because of a collective team effort. Tracy has been pretty good without Yao, but we would be going nowhere fast without Rafer, Scola, Battier, and Landry
