Here is the NY Post write-up: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/wasn_going_to_try_to_push_through_n9T1cjQokc9BroOPPigRuM McGrady sits in Knicks' latest loss By MARC BERMAN Last Updated: 7:02 AM, February 28, 2010 Posted: 5:04 AM, February 28, 2010 Lucky the Knicks aren’t in a playoff race. Otherwise, this Tracy McGrady experiment would be a disaster. The audition of T-Mac took another lousy turn when he sat out the entire second half with his sore left knee. McGrady scored as many points last night as comedian Tracy Morgan, who sat courtside in last night’s 120-109 loss to the Grizzlies. With McGrady missing, ex-Knicks power forward Zach Randolph, a newly minted All-Star, stole the spotlight, celebrating his Garden return with a monster night, scoring 31 points and securing a career-high 25 rebounds. “I didn’t have it tonight,” McGrady said. “It was pretty tough out there for me moving around. I wasn’t going to try to push through it. It’s stiffness, pain. No reason to stay out there like that.” In all five of his games, McGrady’s knee has been an issue at a varying level of degrees. Yesterday he was unable to take playing back-to-back nights and quit on the game after banging a 3-pointer off the back iron at the first-half buzzer. “It was tougher for me,” McGrady said. “Usually in the first half, I’m pretty good. But a couple of trips up the court I noticed it wasn’t my night. I told you guys, I’m going to have some bad days and some good days. “It’s nothing to be worried about, I can’t hurt anything,” McGrady added. “I just didn’t want to have a set´back.” McGrady’s comeback is looking and sounding simi´lar to the multiple, failed comebacks of Allan Houston, who also had microfracture knee surgery. The Knicks fell to 1-4 since the trade-deadline deals, have lost nine of 10 games, are 20-38 overall and lost their seventh straight home game. When Randolph and Jamal Crawford were traded in November 2008 in the name of cap space, the Knicks were 6-5. Days later they dipped under .500 and have not been over .500 since. Meanwhile, Randolph, who had eight rebounds in the first three minutes, made the All-Star team this season, and Crawford is ready to break his league-high playoff drought with the Hawks. For the second straight night, Al Harrington carried the Knicks with 31 points off the bench, even though he has had to play some center. Memphis outrebounded the undersized Knicks 52-32, with the Grizzlies securing 17 offensive boards. Late in the second quarter, the Knicks’ rebounding woes became glaring to anyone who has ever picked up a basketball. After center Marc Gasol missed his second free throw, nobody boxed out the shooter and Gasol easily retrieved it in the lane for an uncontested layup. Pathetic. The Knicks looked to make it interesting by reeling off eight straight points, with struggling Danilo Gallinari burying a 3-pointer from the right wing, to knot the score at 107 with 4:04 left. But Memphis went on an 11-0 run as the Knicks fell apart, scoring just two points the rest of the way. marc.berman@nypost.com
Trading McGrady to the Knicks was like sending a lamb to slaughter. The NY media will just destroy him.
no amare, kidd microfracture miracle, isn't the story with microfracture is that you have to play your way back into shape? doesn't look promising
Tracy is done, demanding more minutes because he was 100 ready to go haha. Now he's getting minutes and he can't play. He's a joke. He needs to just give up and retire.
Me too!!! That POS wanted more minutes and is now doing the same BS he did last season with us. Why can't he just not play until he is fully recovered. He should go run on the treadmill for 2 hours and then say he is ready to play everyday. I was pissed off at Rockets management and Adelman, but now it makes sense. They knew his knee was garbage for at least this season, but could not say anything until after the trade. Seven minutes a game is all he is good for this season.
He will NEVER be fully recovered unless he toughens up, and plays through it to strengthen his knee. His knee is now healthy, but his confidence in it is not. Oh well, not our problem anymore. WOOT ! DD
He'll have his 20+ pt games once in a while, but each NYC recap of his twice a week "off-night" will be one hell of a read. Just sit back and watch. Thank Morey we are watching from afar.
I guess we'll never know for sure but it looks more and more likely that those of us who thought he never needed microfracture to begin with were right. He's doing the same thing with his new "100%" knee as he was with the old, supposedly seriously damaged one.
oh no tim duncan is not playing on back 2 backs i guess he is a diva and he wants to play when he wants too. you guys are a joke he is getting used to playing 20+ minutes... in 5-10 games he will be fine haters
I actually feel bad for TMAC, the dude dug his own grave and now has to lay in it. I feel really good for Morey/RAdelman, the whole 7 minute a game thing was for a REASON not just some revenge tactic. TMAC is done as a above avg player but can still be a productive role player if he accepts that role.
Tim Duncan brought San Antonio 4 tittles so he can do whatever he wants. T-mac and his fans are a joke.
Isn't he playing through it right now? Its funny. People b**** about him not wanting to play 7 minutes each game and then flame him for not playing 30+ minutes a game.
I think its less to do with the fact of playing 30+ minutes a game, but more to do with him telling the entire world he's ready to play (you can find many, many comedic quotes) and then falling short when he is actually given the opportunity. Let us sit back and watch.
Is he? Is he playing through it? I don't know it looks to me like he is just playing when he feels ok, and not really pushing through the pain to get his wind, timing and confidence back. Either way......I am glad it is not in Houston. DD
I love all the people who now EXCLUSIVELY post in this thread... Why are you still here? Why not go over to the Knicks forum(s)? Your loyalty obviously went only as far as Tracy McGrady. He's no longer here, so why are you? It pains me to see people posting here when there's a Knicks game on when there's ALSO a Rockets game on. If you're watching both games, then fine, but I know a lot of people are just watching the Knicks game. I might watch a stream when there's nothing else on, but are you Rockets fans, or are you just TOF?
