Nah, I'm absolutely certain that things have changed dramatically for McGrady between just before last season's trade deadline and the time he was finally banished from the Rockets this season. I'm also sure that those changes had some kind of effect on his thinking process.
he can flourish as a point guard if he doesn't endanger his knee anymore. make scoring his secondary goal and i think he will have a decent career. as much as i bashed the guy and went through my ups and downs about him. i still feel bad for him seeing him try and having his body fail on him. i'll probably get flamed but i still see him as a houston rocket. unlike pippen.
You shouldnt get flamed. his body gave up with him long ago. People say he doesnt have heart and things of that nature but if he wasnt a hard worker, wouldn't he have never gotten to the point of being a superstar. He could've just been another darius miles. He gave us some good memories and just didnt have that leadership to put us over the top. Sure he acted like a diva at the end but have you ever played pickup basketball with older guys who just arent fast enough, they complain and cry more than anyone. The same thing happened to him. He just cant do it anymore and it really hurts him.
Is everyone crazy?? Anything that tmac cldve brought us, if they wldve let him play before being traded, is better than were the rockets are right now. I love houston and all the players, but it seems like they dont know "how to finish games" yea?? mayb?? Macs IQ for basketball wldve been enough, setting guys up for shots, taking pressure off brooks, etc. Its a fact that we could have used him... we wld be at least in the #5 spot.. RA just dont like him and he let that get in the way with winning...
2 games in for the Knicks and he already got hurt. Put up a whopping six points against the Celtics last night. I think DM and RA knew what they were doing. Besides, if they didn't trade him he would've walked and the Rockets wouldn't have anything.
He also had 8 assists and created a lotta offense for the rest of his team. He did miss the game tying three though. He doesn't have the same lift.
If NY keeps losing, Jazz get DeMarcus Cousins in the draft. I have been rooting for the Knicks to win, but they keep breaking my heart. Cousins could be the final piece to a Jazz championship in a few years. *puke*
"Superstars" on bad teams usually have incredible stats because they get the ball on almost *every* possession. Unfortunately, it is hard for him to take people one on one anymore so he is relegated to long jumpers and hitting the home-run pass.
He's not a superstar anymore. His PER is 17.1 in the last 3 games. I think that's around where he's gonna be. He cannot win games individually like he used to do. I'm curious. Did you watch the game? Sure, he cannot blow past people, but he was taking on his defenders one on one reasonably well and was drawing constant double teams.
It is all in his head, and his ability to trust his body, I think maybe the last 10 games, we will see what he will be going forward. DD
T-Mac on potential game-tying shot with 30 seconds left: "Even when I took that shot, I wasn't that confident making it.'' Wonderful. about 10 hours ago via web NYPost_Berman
I was just messing around and I saw somehting pretty amazing. Out of people on Orlando Magic 2002-2003 who played at least half the season on the team, Tracy McGrady was the only one to have a PER of over 15. T-Mac was THE ONLY PLAYER ON A PLAYOFF TEAM WHO WAS ABOVE AVERAGE. That's pretty amazing IMO. T-Mac is stupidly honest.
No my theory doesn't. The guy is in a contract year coming off major surgery, of course he is looking to stat pad. I never said he has had this plan since before the surgery. I'm sure last year he thought he was going to get the surgery, avoid the trade and then come back this season and be able to go right back into Me-Mac mode, dictating how/when he is played and thinking the Rockets might contend again. Of course, Morey and Adelman had other plans. Mark this thread so when it goes down like I said it would you can come back and read it.
McGrady didn't play for us or get the minutes he wanted because, he was crap offensively and defensively back in December when the two parties parted ways. His offense has improved, since then, but he still has problems with defense. His pseudo-defense would have made him just a big as a liability as running with Battier or Ariza, except for the opposite reasons. I loved McGrady during his time as a Rocket, but the team did what they could. Adelman was willing to give him 8 minutes a game to work himself back into shape during games, but Tracy or his people wanted more minutes claiming he was ready. It is the same talk, that went on in December of '08, where McGrady(and Artest) decided the schedule and not Adelman. The coach was right for not allowing such to happen to the team again and risk team chemistry just to make McGrady and co happy or risk another injury.
This is the bottom line. There was no way the Rockets were going to buy him out or let him walk out without getting anything back. I'm just glad he is gone along with all his antics and drama.
Funny how all the people who were saying the trade was a mistake are all quiet now. I was actually pulling for the guy to get bak to his old self, it would be nice to see a guy with his talent playing ball again at the top level. BUT, its been quite obvious from the past few years his body is letting him down. Caring for his fitness now isn't going to turn that around for him, he should have had this drive for fitness a few years back and he may have been able to extend his ability to play at a top level. It seems like its too late though...he'll have some good games, but they will be sporadic as he can't produce night in-night out.
