he's struggling since he came back in the 2nd quarter. he sat out 8 minutes. when i say he'll be fine, it's over the next 28 games and going into next season. the entire knicks' team is struggling shooting the ball. and even tmac knows he'll go through ups and downs.
Nah, it's what you call playing nearly a decade and a half of NBA basketball on a crooked spine, leading to overall dilapidation of the athlete's body. It's amazing he's lasted as long as he has given his structural problems. What I see is far more than an out of shape player. His movement is akin to that of a much, much older person. I am beyond confident that he is going to struggle tremendously if he plays beyond this season, quite possibly much worse than with Houston. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him retire this offseason once reality sets in. That, or he will call it quits part way through next season. I think there is also the real possibility of a new or recurring injury over the next few weeks based on his body movement/language. I believe it's much more than getting into game condition. Time will tell. I really don't care if I'm right or wrong. All I know is he'll never come close to being a key player on a contender again.
It's like playing catch with your dog when it was a puppy. It would bring back the ball and run to get it every time for hours. Now that the dog is old he doesn't chase the ball.
His movement has always been a little weird because of his lanky body type. Even in 2004, when he was still explosive, he moved pretty weirdly. Just like we couldn't conclusively say that he was back after one game, there's no way you can say that he is done after a game and a half.
Are you saying they were motivated and winning before he got there? LOL! The hatred is just getting a bit too much around here. I recognize all of the guys' faults and I will even say we made a good trade in getting Martin for him, but that is no reason to keep piling on the guy without a hint of logic or fairness. If you hate you hate him, and if you love him you love him. I wish both camps would disappear and we can have a more logical evaluation of his comeback. No one in their right minds thought this guy would come back and be a savior. He is playing for a contract, trying to prove he can at least be a decent pick up for some team out there. No one is saying he is as good as Lebron or Wade, he is probably as useful as Joe Johnson when healthy and playing well. The guy is 30, realistically he no longer will be the prime player on any team, nor can he any longer carry a team. I do not think even his supporters would argue that.
where were you when he made his knicks' debut? i disagree with you. i think he'll be much better next year. wednesday will mark the ONE YEAR anniversary of the surgery date. typically, you need one full year of PURE REHAB before playing ball again. he is way ahead of schedule. so obviously, he'll experience ups and downs throughout the next 28 games. some games he'll look great offensively. some games not. but i will be very surprised if he doesn't come out firing next year with a full offseason of further rehab with grover. but yes, the only thing that might destroy his career is another injury, not b/c of the surgery.
Joe Johnson is in the Prime of his career. McGrady is in the decline. How can you say that McGrady could be as useful as Joe Johnson??
Whoa I didn't expect this strong a reaction when I wrote that post. McGrady has been my fave player since 2003, FYI. I have nothing against him. Maybe I expected the energy from the Oklahoma game to carry over, but it was wishful thinking. He has never been a high energy player, and it's really ****ty to see him like this. If he doesn't improve then I hope he retires.
I meant in terms of impact. I think JJ is a very overrated player and his numbers do not tell the whole story. McGrady at his BEST and injury-free would be roughly the same caliber of player, I think. I mean in overall impact, I do not mean he would match him point for point. You would not hand over a team to JJ, and you should not do that with McGrady at this point either. But he can still be serviceable IF healthy. If the guy is not healthy then you cannot judge him since he is obviously not at his best.
I've been saying it for much longer than a game and a half. I saw the signs well over a year ago and even well before his knee injury and ensuing microfracture surgery. I'm not even trying to hate. He was a tremendous player, one of the most talented to ever grace this league. Unfortunately for him and his fans, his time has passed. I don't blame you all for hanging on though.
T-Mac looks bad tonight..kind of just standing around on offense not attacking the basket like he did on sat.
Man I wish we could of gotten Sergio Rodriguez in our deal too..he would be a great back-up PG and SG..he is such a great passer.
I really like the SR kid, he might be their best pick up if he develops over time. He looks aggressive and pretty solid with the ball.
He could go for 50 tonight and I won't budge an inch on my opinion. My scope of evaluation is well beyond one or two games and has little to do with statistics. I've only been watching a few minutes of this game and I didn't even need to do that to form my opinion. I formed it over 2 years ago and have seen continual evidence to support it. I suppose McGrady supporters have seen so much drama and decline in McGrady over the past few years that accepting the inevitable reality of the next year or two shouldn't be that hard. It won't be pretty.
So on another note. If Mcgrady gets to 20K points and wins a ring even if he plays a backup role is he going to the hall ? Both seem reasonable.
he's not a good shooter, but he's very aggressive. i think the knicks will be happy with him. now i know why the knicks were hesitant to give up gallineri. dude has a lot of potential with his size. it's untapped though.
