I remember DM said in his last interview with Simmons that he thought Tmac was one of the 10 most naturally talented players he's seen. I don't know if was counting in the league currently, in Tmac's career, or all time. Then again I don't know if it's really true because DM also said he wished Tracy "anything but the best."
T-mac at his best was LeBron James like. Could score at will Could pass like a Top 5 point guard Could even play defense (yes there were times) He had it all...When he wanted/forced himself to and when his body would allow it. Too bad he wasn't built as strong (mentally).
lol, Tinman is just bitter because he didn't win the T-Mac ultimate Fan contest. So now he is hating on him whenever
did he take his team anywhere? I mean playoffs. what about the regular season team? Did he take his team to 72 wins like Jordan did? How's this compared to Dream's year where he won the MVP .. AND the DPOY? What about when Magic Johnson's rookie season where he played basically every position? What about Larry Bird? I mean T-mac couldn't tie these dude's shoe laces. yet, he has so many followers. I spit on the Orlando Magic 2002-03 season, cause that's what it is in the grandness of the NBA history.
As far as him sitting out tonight, may it be an excuse? He is saying he is exhausted etc and is a game time decision. What if he plays and struggles again? I can see his comments: "I wanted to give it a chance because I am not gonna let my team down. I did my best but just didn't have it" Possible ?
No...he just went out and dominated regardless...which is why he is a champion (and I realize this was a rhetorical question but I love me some Hak)
As far as T-Mac's mark in NBA history, I feel that it will be seen as a disapointment. I can't blame just him for his playoff failures, but with the one time his team goes past the first round, he is on the bench hurt. As far as him being the best in the NBA at one point, I always felt he never played enough defense to be the best. Although AI is probably done, I think he left more of a mark that T-Mac did. AI took a team featuring Aaron McKie, Eric Snow, Tyrone Hill, and Dikembe (although I think Deke is a legend and one of my favorites) to the finals. Now he is in NY and hurt again. He was pining for minutes here in Houston this year, but coach kept his minutes limited for that reason, and guess what:HE'S HURT AGAIN! I'm not here to pile it on T-Mac, but all in all, his tenure here was a failure. Yes, we weren't going anywhere with Francis or Cuttino, but the lack of playoff success with him in the line-up will be his mark in Rockets lore.
thanks for having high standards as a Rockets fan. Dream will be talked about after our generation and the next generation and the next generation. Because the champions are forever, and city of Houston will never forget.
Of course. And not only a champion but an all-time NBA great. That's what seperates the legends from the good players. Like Dream playing while fasting or MJ playing with the flu or Bird playing with a bad back. Heck even A.I. playing with all sorts of injuries is a thing of legends.
Great post! Yes the Francis era was a failure too, but Francis and Mobley were different than McGrady because they were original Rockets. We got them when they were rookies and we saw them grow up. There's some kind of bond there. We remember Francis in his rookie year as being some skinny athletic dude and we watched develop to an allstar. Cuttino was 2nd round pick! We saw him being thrown in the starting lineup as our STARTING PG! It's kinda fitting that Tmac's most beloved moment as a Rocket was him jacking up a bunch of 3 pointers in a regular season game. Cause regular season success was the best thing that came out of the Tmac era.
I feel sometimes as Rockets fans we don't appreciate Dream enough(not me, I still have my Hakeem poster hanging up, much to the chagrin of my wife) and my autographed USA basketball Hakeem jersey will be passed on to my two girls. This guy was truly great, not like some of these so called "great" players that the media keeps crowning these days. Yes and that includes the Houston media....
Sorry to derail the thread, but Hakeem vs. Robinson after DRob won his MVP trophy in the 95 playoffs was a thing of beauty. In Rodman's autobiography, he talks about how Robinson was literally shaking in fear before games in that series due to Hakeem absolutely DOMINATING him.
cause the Tmac fans believe he was better than dream: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5163203&postcount=439
Nice. So you take what one random ass kid says about a Tmac and think its okay to label a whole group of people in the same manner. Ignorant much?
I don't think this is a given at all. Iverson certainly didn't easily get a contract and he had a lot more left than McGrady is showing.
