I wouldn't assume that. Maybe the guy who scores those 25 points is making a lot of other mistakes that don't show up in the boxscore. Or perhaps he's scoring those 25 points because of something positive other players are doing and not getting boxscore credit for.

SBK, I wasn't talking about you... Well I was, but it was the +/- part... I've never seen you as the "hater" type...

I'm guessing you didn't do this on purpose, or only did it to help your point, but you completely dismissed defense. It's basically half the game. Outscoring is nice, but history has shown you need to stop teams or players as well.

To answer your second question, Battier was the one passing to the guys making the cuts. Someone has to do it. If that's what you call dead weight, then there's always going to be dead weight in a lineup.

    Durvasa,

I'm kinda worried that Chase may disprove some of the "intangibles" ideas and prove that points on the board covers more mistakes than not making mistakes, making the right play and scoring 7 points per game covers mistakes.

Don't you feel like Kevin Martin has kinda already proved this?

The point being if you can average 1.5 points per shot or more with very few turnovers, that kind of offensive efficiency covers up a lot of defensive mistakes if you are taking around 15 shots at game.

As long as Chase isn't turning the ball over frequently and he's getting to the FT line like he has been the last couple games, and he's hitting shots from the field at around a 45% clip, then he don't need to play a lot of defense to be a big time plus player.

Well, obviously scoring while not making mistakes is the ideal. And Martin's a top 10 scorer in the league. Budinger isn't. If he can miraculously get to that zone, then I don't expect we would expect as much from him defensively as opposed to Battier.

But I would like to see Chase play against better guys than Travis OutLOL and whoever starts for Cleveland before any real judgments are rendered. The next two games will be important in seeing if Chase can play this well - I obviously don't expect him to drop 30 on Batum and Ariza, but if he can put up shots on good efficiency, and prevent them from scoring (not that that's difficult against Trevor), than I think that'll be good enough.

I think it basically comes down to giving Brooks' attempts to Budinger. Technically what youre saying makes sense individually, but within a team, not always. I think this was especially the case with a brooks/martin/scola trio in the starting lineup. We just needed less defensive mistakes with the old lineup. The hope is that we're better with the defense distributed differently and Budinger scoring more efficiently than Brooks.

tonigh'ts game against the spurs, first half. Everyone one the memphis grizzlies has a negative +/- except for shane battier who is +6. So that is really interesting

"I actually found out through Twitter feeds online. Honestly, I was on one of the websites and just kept refreshing. ... As of 1:45 nothing had happened and I was like, ‘All right, I'm going to finish the year in Houston.' I hit refresh at 1:55 and it said, ‘Sources say Battier to Memphis.' I was like, ‘I better start packing.'"

You know what's really interesting? The amount of pain that Zach Randolph must be going through from carrying this team on his back. Rudy gay needs to hurry up and return, because, as it stands now, Z-BO has even more baggage to carry with the arrival of Shane "Samsonite" Battier.

Man Z-BO's arms must be real tired from carrying the rest of the team...He led the Grizzlies to victory against the league's best team tonight with 21, 10, 5, and 4. In other news, Tony Allen, who is starting for the Griz while Gay is out, shows Shane Battier what a role player is supposed to do by stepping up and providing tangible and intangible production as he goes 8-9 from the field. I doubt that Battier learns anything from Allen's example, because Shane hasn't improved since he's been in the league. He's actually regressed.

You mean, like going 7 for 7 and outscoring Carmelo Anthony in a win?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore;_ylt=AgVtVGjFeVrHZV1109YQc4iRPKB4?gid=2011021410

Or scoring 17 points (5-10 FG, 5-8 3s) and adding 10 rebound and 5 assists in a 16 point win against the Grizzlies when Tony Allen was 0 for 6 and the opposing team's SG (Kevin Martin) went for 34 points?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore;_ylt=Ao_CXMolswfsuJ2F1USK2HaRPKB4?gid=2010121710

    That kind of tangible production?

This is long over due but I was so ah how much love he got in his press conference. and how often do you see a mayor of a city welcome a player? I've never been to Memphis, but it must be a small city.
