Gamespot review for Resistance: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/insomniacshooter/review.html Spoiler 8.6 from Gamespot. Currently sitting at a 91 at Metacritic...probably around a 89-90 after the Gamespot review gets put in (not sure exactly how they weigh reviews). Also IGN has reviewed Marvel Ultimate Alliance: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/746/746161p1.html Spoiler
I went to Walmart in Austin at Mopac and 71. There were about 7 or 8 guys waiting in the layaway area already. The electronics dept dude said they "may" get 10, but there are no official numbers.
I saw a line of like 5 or 6 people at the Memorial City Mall Target and then inside I thin I heard two employees say that they may be only getting 5 PS3s.
I read about it from NeoGAF. There's a specific thread dedicated to it here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129072 It was originally brought up in the general PS3 launch thread though, starting about here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124597&page=33 BTW, I haven't had a chance to post it yet, but there have finally been some detailed impressions about the PSN over at NeoGAF. I'll post the exact quotes later, but basically, it definitely doesn't offer the same features as XBL (as expected...by me anyway). The biggest complaint seems to be that you can't access the XMB from in-game, which I believe was mentioned in the Eurogamer article a while back. You can receive a notification in-game (such as when a friend signs on, or if they send you a message), but you'll have to quit the game to actually to read that message, see what your friend is doing, etc. The OS takes up quite a bit of resources at all times, so I don't know why this isn't allowed (though some XMB functionality was shown in the past, but apparently that wasn't the case...or it wasn't ready for launch). They better get that fixed in a firmware update (apparently, they didn't see a problem with this, but would change it if people wanted the feature). There are some other things too which we've talked about before, but that was the main complaint I could see.
Yeah, those are the kinds of things we were referring to earlier. Not a huge deal in the scheme of things, but that's the sort of difference that most of us were expecting when you hear of a 'rival' to XBL.
So I see prices around $1,500-$2,000. Do you think that price will drop once the units are released and there are more units to be sold? I'm just wondering what the profit range is for these things on the "black market". It seems like folks are already camped out at all the main stores.
Here is a link about people trying to find these things in Houston. It might help someone although I doubt it. http://www.gamespot.com/events/ps3launch/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25100600&page=3
The Circuit City where I'm at is only getting six 60gb's me and my cousin are 4 and 5 on the line Been here since 9am Wednesday.
Good luck...I passed by the BB on midway/635 and there were like 15 people, with tents...You know how cold it gets in Dallas...Well, if you are able to get in line, get me one and I'll pay you a little extra...e-mail me...
I was in Wal Mart earlier tonight and walked past a PS3 display. I didn't stop to look at it for more than a few seconds...mainly because the freaking thing had frozen in the middle of the trailer it had been showing (Lair). Way to go Sony!
OK, so here are the quotes I was talking about earlier (courtesy of our friend with a PS3, DCharlie): (following quote are his reponses to some questions, which I'll include in the quote and mark by "Q") In response to the following quote: His response: Someone else later responded to his comments (not sure if he/she has a PS3, but what he/she said seems correct): Back to DCharlie: The PS3 reserves 64MB for the web browser and other OS activies. Here's to hoping that Sony actually uses that space for something in the near-future, rather than justing putting it to waste. Pulling up the web browser in-game could be pretty awesome (especially if you could chat/message with that...I guess). Sony has like 50+ things to fix in future firmware updates...and it hasn't even launched in NA yet. IGN reviewed Tiger Woods, NFS Carbon, and UL. I don't really feel like linking to them. The first two were basically like their 360 counterpart but with some imperfections and SIXAXIS control. UL sucks...and that's about all I have to say about that game. BTW, for those planning on getting a PS3, what games are you planning to get with it and why? Also, do you plan on getting any Blu-ray movies, and if so, which ones? I don't think anyone has commented on this, and I think it would be interesting to see what software available on the PS3 might be the most attractive to would-be PS3 owners. Spoiler Plus, I can then tell who actually wants to buy a PS3 to play and not put up on eBay.
if i get lucky enough to get a ps3, i plan on getting tiger and i dunno what else...i do plan on getting a lot of movies though. i just gotta figure out how im gonna get a system, im in houma louisiana and there is bestbuy/walmart/circuit ciys around where im stayin, but i have to work friday so dont know if i have a prayer. well see

Damn, you know I JUST realized that you are the first person I've seen/heard that wants a PS3 now to actually use it now? I think every single other instance of someone being interested in locating a PS3 was so they could turn around and sell it. Kudos to you, because it bugs me when people do that.
when people take advantage of supply and demand? if there is a chance that i can buy a $600 system and turn it around to sell it for $1000+, why not? personally I think its pretty stupid to keep it now when you can sell it for a huge profit. Why not just buy it later for $600 when production ramps up and its available to everybody.
