Nah, he'll take my side. We were both mad at you for not coming up last weekend. We could've enjoyed some quality MiG time. We even talked about you in footy pajamas sleeping in between us. But you had to b**** out on us and not come up for the game. You should know moes well enough...it's always hoes before bros.
if walmart is allowing lines thursday i'll be there early to get ready. wednesday night till friday morning i have nothing scheduled so i don't mind waiting if for sure i can get one.
Holy **** I drove past the Best Buy at the Galleria.... 15+ tents, going around the left side of the store... HAH, that's awesome.
Anyone have any clue where I should go? Walmart in Halletsville? Best Buy in CS? Target in Sugar Land? I mean anywhere! Seriously...
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/disp/story.mpl/business/4335550.html Die-hard gamers wait for PS3 — Jose Martinez, far right, got in line late Monday at the Galleria-area Best Buy to purchase the Sony PlayStation 3 when it goes on sale at 12:01 a.m. Friday Gamers hope PlayStation 3 is worth the pause By BRAD HEM Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Jose Martinez is taking a low-tech approach to getting the latest high-tech video game system. The 16-year-old was first in line at the Galleria-area Best Buy at 11 p.m. Monday — more than 72 hours early for the new Sony PlayStation 3, which goes on sale there at 12:01 a.m. Friday. By Tuesday afternoon, nearly 20 people had joined him. But while many brought lawn chairs, umbrellas, reading material and coolers full of soft drinks and sandwiches, Martinez, a home-schooled student, took a minimalist route: "Four bottles of water and two bags of marshmallows." With just 400,000 of the new game consoles available nationwide at Friday's launch — more are expected by the end of the year — demand will greatly exceed supply. There have been reports already that some hard-core gamers have been waiting in line for nearly a week at a store in California. And Craigslist and eBay have ads listing the machines, which retail for $499 and $599 depending on the model, for nearly $2,000. Video games promise to be hot items this holiday shopping season. The new Nintendo Wii, which retails for $249, launches at 12:01 a.m. Sunday at area Toys R Us stores and at the GameStop store near the Galleria. Throw in the 1-year-old Xbox 360 at $299, and you've got the makings for some long lines through the end of the year. "I think we're in for one of the toughest gaming battles since the days of SuperNintendo and the Sega Genesis," said Chris Slate, editor of the gaming magazine PSM. The Galleria Best Buy and local 24-hour Wal-Mart stores will start selling the PS3 at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Other stores, including Target and Circuit City, will have limited supplies on their shelves when they open Friday morning, though gamers are expected to be in line well ahead of that time. The stores either don't know or won't say how many units they'll have available. The Galleria Best Buy will have at least 20 of the premium 60-gigabyte PS3s and at least six of the 20-gigabyte versions, but that's as close an estimate as they got from Sony, store assistant manager Jacob Ralston said. "We have no clue how many we're going to get," he said. Circuit City stores will open at the usual 8 a.m. Friday, and each store will post a sign on its front door Thursday night telling shoppers how many PS3s it will have available Friday morning. "Supply will be very limited at first," Circuit City spokeswoman Jackie Foreman said. "We'd love to have enough for everybody who wants one." But they won't, and neither will anyone else. Besides better graphics and wireless technology, a major selling point of the PS3 is the high-definition Blu-ray DVD player. But a shortage of Blu-ray parts has limited Sony's ability to produce enough PS3 consoles to meet demand. "They have been desperately trying to make as many of these as they can for the holiday season," said Colin Campbell, editor of Next Generation, a gaming magazine. The Wii and Xbox 360, currently the No. 1 seller, have price advantages, but the PlayStation name will draw customers who have been playing its games since the original version came out in 1994. "You can't underestimate the brand loyalty," Campbell said. He predicted that Xbox's dominance of the market will narrow by spring, and the Wii will help Nintendo regain its once-dominant standing in the video game industry. Instead of very clear first-, second- and third-place consoles, all three will be very close to each other, he said. While game companies limit availability as a marketing tool to create buzz with the release of a new product, this time the shortage is unintentional and signifies a failure by Sony to meet demand, Campbell said. That doesn't bother Martinez and his new friends in line at Best Buy. Peter Pham, 21, and his roommate, who arrived at 6 a.m. Tuesday, are next in line behind Martinez. The pair will get two PS3s and resell one of them on eBay. They hope to turn a profit that essentially makes the system they keep free. "I'm hoping to get a $500 or $600 profit," Pham said. Pham, a pre-law student at the University of Houston, said he was lucky not to have any exams this week, so he could dedicate time to waiting in line. He did take some textbooks with him and will study to help pass the time. Pham was surprised to see Martinez in line already when he and his roommate got there Tuesday. He was even more surprised to see the teenager's lack of supplies. "We're going to have to help him there," Pham said. Meanwhile Martinez kept focused on 12:01 a.m. Friday. The Sony PlayStation 3 goes on sale Friday. Quantities and availability will be limited and vary by store. • Best Buy: The location at 5133 Richmond opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Other stores open at 9 a.m. as usual. • Circuit City: Stores open at 8 a.m. as usual on Fridays. • CompUSA: Customers who purchase a 40-inch or larger Sony TV can pre-order the PS3. • GameStop: Taking pre-orders only for PS3. Will open at 12:01 a.m. Sunday to sell the Nintendo Wii. • Target: Stores open at 8 a.m. as usual. • Toys R Us: Pre-orders only for PS3. Will open at 12:01 a.m. Sunday to sell the Nintendo Wii. • Wal-Mart Supercenters: All Supercenters are open 24 hours and PS3 sales will begin at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
It seems like there is a big problem with the PS3, at least for those with HDTVs that support 1080i but not 720p. Nothing has been confirmed (or fully explained), but it sounds like people with these TVs will be screwed. Basically, if you put in a game that is in 720p, the PS3 will display it in 480p (the highest supported resolution), not 1080i. If your TV only diplays in 1080i but can accept a 720p signal, you can set it to take that signal and then have your TV scale it to 1080i AFAIK. Not all TVs will do that though, so some people will be playing PS3 games in 480p even though they have a HDTV. Maybe this could be fixed with a firmware upgrade or something. Sounds like a major screw-up by Sony (IMO).
depending on the walmart and it's specific locations management, they may not even allow lines days before launch. Especially since the ps3 launch will be bigger than ps2 launch.... just take a day off and hang around walmart...get some new threads...try on some new kicks...eat some grapes...lounge around...stalk the manager...until you start seeing activity
Up here in Dallas, I just got off the phone with one of the CC and they said for PS3 its first come first serve for vouchers and they'll be giving those out Friday morning...I then asked about how many and one guys didn't know, then I talked to another guy and he said 6... I then called Sam's Club and they didn't know how many, first come first serve, but unlike last year, this year, when they open at 7 for business memebers, it's only for business memebers...10a.m for everyone else...
There is a walmart about 5 blocks away from me and I am taking tomorrow and Friday off. Crappy part is that I won't be able to head over to Wallyworld till about noon
the earliest i can check out walmart is tonight around 11:00. i might camp out and wait tonight or risk it early morning if there is nobody in line. the circuit city in the galleria has about 7 people sitting there already. i was going to use sams but i know two people who work there, one at dunvale, one at south rice. they don't know for sure but dunvale sam's may only be getting one and the south rice may not have any. if i get any positive numbers i'll let people know. target and walmart seem like the better options unless you go now in which case you probably have good odds almost anywhere. we should get a clutch group together, make time pass a little easier...
Looks like I should've camped last night. 8 people showed up last night and slept overnight. I got there this morning at 8 am and was the last one. If anyone plans on going to Walmart, you better go now. If Walmart is full, try Best Buy or Circuit City.
I've got tomorrow off, so if you guys decide to do anything, I may tag along, and get an extra (since I'm last in line at Gamestop right now, I'm being a bit overly cautious, plus I want a 60 gig, GS has only "guaranteed" me a 20 gig. I have a Business Sam's card as well, so depending on what the numbers are there..I may head that way too.
My friends are number 3, 4 and 5 in line at a Best Buy here near dallas and we plan on purchasing three systems... the logic goes that 3 (x) 600 = 1800 (plus tax) sell 2 @ around 1500 a piece keep one system and make about a thousand dollars. I plan on listing two systems on ebay, but there are two issues: 1. I think I might need atleast 50 feedback on ebay to be able to sell these systems. I currently have about 25. Would anyone with a valid 50+ account be willing to let me use their account to sell the systems? Of course, you would be compensated. 2. Perhaps I could sell the ps3s to some lucky clutch fan rather than using ebay. The price would probably be determined by the ebay market on friday morning(day of launch). Anybody interested?
You in dallas? What Walmart were you planning on going to? I have a friend who plans to do this in Flower Mound... Drew P? Which BB are you guys hanging out at? Edit: called costco in Plano...they are also first come first serve, with the voucher system in the morning, however, they didn't know if they would be getting any...they think , but no confirmation...talking to the guy, they open at 10 and he said there would not be a distiction...
