BTW, the game will be ~800MB. Finally, Terra Soft has set up their site so that people can buy PS3s with YDL5.0 preinstalled. I don't think they'll be ready until Q1 of next year though. http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/store/index.php?submit=hardware&submitimg
Source: http://ps3.qj.net/EA-using-only-20-o...g/49/aid/75650 Article: Sony has been hyping the PS3's almost supercomputer strength - we're actually having nightmares about all the PS3s uniting and taking over the planet. But in the real world, much of that power still remains untapped. According to Glenn Entis, EA's Vice President and Chief Visual Officer, the PS3 's complexity is making it a challenging piece of equipment to master. While he did say that underneath all that challenge lies its "tremendous potential", Entis says it will take game developers some time to figure out how to unlock the PS3's mythical power. "We've got games coming out now where we feel we've hit maybe 20 per cent of the potential of PlayStation 3," he says. "It's going to take us a little bit of time to unleash it." Entis admitted the PS3 was more complex than they anticipated but he said EA is confident the the PS3 will be a phenomenal games machine in the future. So if you think the current generation of PS3 games are mind-blowing, please hold your applause. The PS3 is a giant still in deep slumber. The real deal, the ones that pack more than 20% of the PS3 power, is still to come. Maybe news that the PS3 will suffer the same fate as Sony's other fallen star, the Betamax, may be grossly exaggerated after all.
MotorStorm just recently came out in Japan. Some pics from DCharlie at NeoGAF: Spoiler DCharlie is the the only one that I know of that has the game. His impressions weren't all that great compared to the hype though. He's just calling it "OK," but apparently it wasn't as fun to him as the PSN demo was (physics were taking the fun out of things IIRC). If any of you guys are wanting to import some games, there will be a few notable games coming out in Japan pretty soon. Formula One and Armored Core 4 (video here if you haven't seen it) come out on December 21st. Virtua Fighter 5 will be release on February 8th. I think I read that Tekken 5 DR will be available on January 18th, although I'm not sure if that is confirmed (certainly would be smart to beat VF5 to the market). The free GTHD download will also be available on December 24th. Of course, these last two don't really count as imports...you just need to setup your PS3 to download them from the Japan store (assuming they're not available on the NA/US store).
Back in college I have been playing on a nice big HDTV. I got home for the winter break, plugged in the PS3 to a SDTV. And UGHHHHF. HORRIBLE. NBA 2K really does look like a mid-generation PS2 game. WOW...
Resistance, 2k7, and a little bit of Madden. No BRs yet except for Taladega. X-Men 3 will probably be my first. Miami Vice would probably look pretty sexy in HD.
Unbelievable, I search the internet and see that Amazon.com is doing drawings for the PS3. So I'm thinking there are more shipments comming to U.S. in general. I do some research online and there was this rumor about retailers getting PS3s every week and specifically dec. 17. I get up monday morning around 7, drive to the local [Austin] Target, and there it was. TWO PS3's! I bought one, got an extra controller, nba2k7, and resistance. You still have a chance to get one just go earlier every other day... Graphics arn't that great on a regular CRT TV at my apartment so I'm going to leave it with my brother and parents (61' HDTV DLP). I'm so syked!
Just bought fight night for the PS3 and am really enjoying. I had seen the graphics on the 360 and the PS3 verison seems just a tab bit ahead in terms of details
Quick question about Blue Ray DVDs, I have Talladega nites and Superman on Blue ray. When I play them the black bars on the top and bottom seem to take up a lot more space on my widescreen than the regular DVDs when I play them, is this common?
I'm not sure what the aspect ratio is for Talladega Nights, but Superman Returns is 2.35:1, so if you're watching it on widescreen display, there should be black bars.
For the Superman returns Std DVD there are black bars but only about 2 inches on top and bottom like when they show stuff on TV in widescreen. When I punch in the Blue Ray DVD there are much larger bars on top and bottom, like 3 or 4 inches compared to the Std DVD
I have a question I'm going to Japan in a couple days. I was planning on getting a PS3 from there. I know they are region free and Japan is NTSC as well right? So will it work fine? What issues, if any, will I have?
They're cheaper in Japan IIRC (about a $75-$100 differences IIRC, depending on where you get it), so even if supply was better in the US, there might be some reason to get a PS3 in Japan. Games are cheaper too IIRC...some of them anyway. I believe Japan is NTSC. I'm not completely sure what issues you might have with it though. Despite being connected in the US, your PS3 might try to connect to Japan to play games online, which might suck (can't play friends in the US). I'm not completely sure about that though. I would think that most of the issues with getting a JP PS3 would be along this line. Games (assuming they're region-free) and Blu-ray movies released in the US should play on the PS3. You can set up a US account on the PS3 to connect to the US PS Store (as opposed to the Japanese PS Store). If you need to send your PS3 back for repairs, you'll have to send it to Japan I believe. I might lean on getting one in the US just to be on the safe side, but you can do whatever you want. Just know that there might be some issues with it. Sorry I couldn't tell you anymore. BTW, I've been away from a computer the last 4-5 days, so I missed any and all discussions going on during that time. Of course, if anything happened in the world of video games, I missed that too. I'm going to start catching up right now, and I might post some stuff if it hasn't been posted here before. I'll try not to go overboard though.
A buddy of mine said he picked up one at the Sharpstown Circuit City near 59. Said they had a bunch around lunch today. Good luck.
PS3s are not selling... I went into the EBgames and they told me they were out of Wiis, but they did have some PS3s...
Got mine yesterday. Circuit City in Pearland had 6 of the 60 GB models. Haven't had the chance to play any games on it yet, but it is great as a BluRay player. The only gripe I have is that there doesn't seem to be a remote available for it yet. It also plays SACD's, which are incredible btw.
Whoa there. Sony's online play system won't be global? Xbox Live sure as hell is. If true, this Sonly online crap is a freaking joke.
