^Thanks again RC! I'll read up on some of the post about them game. I was pretty tentative about buying it in the first place because I'm not a FPS fan but I did enjoy Gears for the 360 so I figured I'd give it a run.
IGN review of Fight Night Round 3 (available tomorrow in case you guys forgot); http://ps3.ign.com/articles/748/748073p1.html Spoiler
We get it, your a nintendo or ms fanboy. No one else here is dropping down to your level of constant hating. If you don't like it, (sony or ps3) ignore it. The best thing I like about RC is that he always takes the high road everytime someone on this forum accuses/bashes him of being a fanboy. He might be slightly biased towards a certain company, but he is no fanboy.
Easy there. I have nothing against Sony (I love their tvs) or PS3. I'm not going to shell out $600 bucks for one though. I once owned a Sony BetaMax and thought it was great, but the public went with the lesser quality vhs format. I probably would have bought a Wii but couldn't find one so I opted for the 360. That doesn't make it any better or worse than the other consoles. My "I just replied from my Apple computer" comment meant nothing so chill out.
So apparently there will be a PS3 version of Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection (with new elements and "Full HD Graphics") available on the PSN download service. No date or price has been given, but that sounds pretty awesome (especially if the price is under $15). Speaking of downloadable games on the PS3, there will also be a PS3 version of Gripshift (called Gripshift DLX) available on the PS3 by the end of the year (hopefully). Check out a video here: http://control-freaks.tv/ The PSP game didn't get great reviews (70 at Metacritic). I was able to find it for cheap ($14 IIRC), and I actually had a ton of fun with it. It had its flaws, but they weren't too big of a deal IMO. I think it is one of those games you either love or hate, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend that everyone with a PS3 download the game (and lose out on $15 or so). Luckily, I believe there will be a demo available, so you guys might be able to check that out and see if you like it (assuming you haven't played the PSP version). Some minor notes while I'm here: There will be a "major" firmware update in March. Future updates might/will allow for "interactive controllers" similar to the Wii. The PS3 might come with a mouse and keyboard in the future to allow for easier access to the Internet and some of the other PC-esque features of the PS3. Some guy at Sony says PS4 in 2010...not so sure about that...probably a better chance of that happening than no PS4 at all though. edit: I think a new firmware update is available now actually. Not 100% sure about that though.
Don't worry about it Faos, chow likes to cry out 'fanboy' but he's the first to get his panties in a bunch when someone doesn't praise Sony. You are right though, the TVs kick lots of ass (IMO). So do Apple computers.
Holy Sh*t!!!! I just got a PS3, 60 GB...WooHoo!!! Funny story, I went with my boss and co-workers to eat, but we first stopped at a Gamestop as he is looking for a Wii for his kids...We were like 6th in line, but they only got 3 in (UPS guy came in 10 minutes after we did)... So, we stop at another Gamestop on the way to the rest. and they didn't have any, so we ate...after lunch, we dropped a friend off at work and we went to the mall...Well, there were about 5 - 6 people at the Gamestop waiting for the FedEx guy... I asked them if they had any Wii's and she said no...Well, do you have any PS3's, she said yes...I was like OMFG, are you serious...Sweet, I'll take one...My friend, who doesn't have permission from his new wife yet, bought one too...There were only 3 and another guy got it...Apparently, 10 minutes before we got there, the UPS came and dropped them off...I'm so stoked...The problem is, I don't know if I can wait for x-mas (family gift for me and the kids)... Question for RC: I know its suppose to be backwards compatible, but the guy at the store was telling me that you couldn't save the PS2 gameplay on the PS3 without a memory card...is that true? That means I'd have to buy an adapter and a memory card just to play PS2 games...Doesn't make sense to me, so sorry if its been discussed...
Congrats bud! Yeah you'll need an adapter for the memory card to play PS2 games, I've seen the adapters on Gamestops site. What game or games did you get??
Crap, so I do have to buy it...That sucks...All that memory... No games yet...I was so happy to get it I ran out of the store...I'm going to wait to open until xmas for the kids...What games do you have and recommend...Which game is a must have now, given the limited numbers of games...
I don't think you need the adapter to play PS2 games (and save game data to the HDD). The adapter comes into play only if you want to use save data from PS1/PS2 memory cards that you have. If you don't care about that, you should be able to stick in a PS1/PS2 game, create "virtual" memory cards on the HDD, and go on from there. Not 100% about that, but I don't see why you would need the adapter for that. The adapter just takes data from memory cards and allows you to store it on the HDD (no PS1/PS2 memory card ports on the PS3). As KePoW said, Resistance is pretty much the only game really worth buying on the PS3...at least if you already have a 360. Sorry, but I forgot if you have a 360 already. If not, some of the multiplatform games would be good buys (though they wouldn't be all that different from the 360 versions). I'll list some of those later if you want.
I'm still somewhat surprised I got one...Damn, that thing is heavy...What about B-R Discs...I heard Ricky Bobby, the 5th Element and another wasn't very good...Any recommendations from anyone that just got some... RC, I don't have a 360, the backward compatability and more value for the same functions won out...I didn't have a PS2, so I have no games whatsoever...I'll probably put my xbox in my bedroom and the PS3 in the living room... Dumb question: My current TV doesn't have 1080P. when I watch a BR Disc, will it down convert to 720P or the 1080i I'm able to watch...
Well in that case, there might be some other games that you might want to check out. NBA 2K7 definitely comes to mind (this is a basketball site afterall). Fight Night Round 3, Call of Duty 3, and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance are all pretty good if you like those types of games (or, in the case of FNR3, you just want to stare at nice graphics). Madden and Tony Hawk Project 8 are also available, but they're kind of "meh" from what I understand. You might find them a lot of fun anyway if you like those franchises, but you might want to rent them first just in case. I personally am a fan of Ridge Racer, but since it seems like I'm the only one here that does like the franchise, I'm not sure if I should recommend Ridge Racer 7. That would be the only other game I would recommend. That's about it for now as far as PS3 games go. I guess there are a bunch of PS2 games you could check out too. I imagine you'd want to check out PS3 games mostly though. BR movies will play in 1080i or 1080p right now (you might have to set it for 1080i though). Thanks to some bugs with the hardware/software, Blu-ray movies won't actually play in 720p.
Resistance Fall of Man is pretty sweet and I'm not even a fan of FPS. Fight Night 3 looks sweet and I hear it's a pretty good boxing sim
