Not sure where to put this, but might as well put it here... GTHD is canceled. Polyphony Digital will focus on making GT5 instead. A free concept of GTHD will be made available on the PSN on December 24th, with more coming later. Good news I guess. IGN has a hands-on article about YDL: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/748/748255p1.html Speaking of Linux on the PS3: Also, not sure if anyone is aware of this, but you can use the SIXAXIS controller on PCs. I think there is some way to get it working with Windows as well as Linux (including PS3 Linux). I can find some links to this if anyone actually wants to use this, but I just thought it was a cool thing to mention for now.
I never understood the logic in releasing GT4 HD when they could be using those resources for GT5 instead. I guess they realized GT4HD with crazy amounts of microtransactions = FTL. I guess this means no GT until 2008? At least Sega is releasing Sega Rally next year. I hope it's a new game...not the original Sega Rally.
IGN has their Beyond the Launch feature done: http://ps3.ign.com/launchguide/beyond.html Basically just talks about 12 games to look forward to in the near-future (all through March); those games are Armored Core 4, Bladestorm (hehe), College Hoops 2K7, Def Jam:Icon, Oblivion, Fatal Inertia, F.E.A.R., MLB 2K7, NBA Street: Homecourt, Rainbow Six Vegas, Virtua Fighter 5, and Virtua Tennis 3. They also threw in YDL and the Blu-ray remote as things to look forward too. Surprised they didn't include some other games, including MotorStorm...or even Formula One. Not sure why IGN forgot about them considering they just put up some new screens (I'll post some here): Spoiler Just out of curiosity, is anyone here planning on importing the Japanese version of MotorStorm in a couple of weeks? Or are those of you who are interested in the game just going to wait for the US release early next year? (Drunk) David Jaffe talking a little bit about God of War III: http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=3455
This story is just so classic. A guy sold his ps3 on ebay for about $1100 but the story as to how he got it was just brilliant. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MESE:IT&viewitem=&item=120054509305&rd=1&rd=1
Is the controller that comes with the 20GB system also wireless? Also do you have to set up DVD player? I put in Rickey bobby and the picture didn't look like it was in anamorphic
The controller with the 20gb system is wireless. I dont understand the second question...but it plays dvd's just fine. You just insert it and it should read it like the blu-ray movies (I'm not 100% because I haven't tried to watch any dvd's on the ps3 yet). The third thing...I don't understand either. I can tell you that they used mpeg2 vs vc1 encoding, which is why the quality is subpar.
I think the transfer for Talladega Nights is supposed to be horrible, just like the transfers for the 5th Element and House of Flying Daggers. The fact that they're using mpeg2 doesn't help (especially on 25GB discs). If they were on 50GB discs, that wouldn't really matter (Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven looks amazing IIRC, and both titles use mpeg 2...and 50GB discs). Sony has some movies that would be great on Blu-ray, but they sure know how to make them look like crap. I thought it would be nice if they put out some of their big hits on Blu-ray right away, but now I'm sort of glad they didn't.
Thanks for answering my questions. I have to read the instruction because I've haven't figured out how to set it up, the wireless controller that is, only had time to mess with it the other nite. My 2nd question about the DVD was that we I put the movie in and I played it, the actual movie only took up about 2/3rds of the screen as oppose to most of it like with my regular DVDs. It looks like I'm watching a DVD that isn't anamorphic widescreen, not talking about picture quality. Also does Sony make a PS3 DVD remote for this?
There will be a PS3 Blu-ray remote coming out next week (in Japan anyway, assuming it will be available here at around the same time): Spoiler
Figured out my issues, I only had about 10 mins to mess around with it before I went out of town the other day when I got it. Man, that remote looks huge
Yeah finally got a 20GB Friday night. Paid about $100 over retail which I didn't think was too bad. Haven't actually played it yet because I went down to Houston yesterday for the game and have been watching football today since I got home. Bought Resistence since I'd heard so much positive stuff about it.
For those that bought this: Is it worth it? I already have a 360, so I'm debating on whether or not it would be worth the price.
it's only worth it if there are actual exclusive games that you want to play *right now*. it there isn't, why not just wait? I have nothing about Sony and the PS3, but I'm not going to buy one until the Final Fantasies, Metal Gears, Devil May Crys, God of Wars, etc are out for it. I didn't buy a PS2 until FFX came out
I agree with KePow. Granted, I don't have a PS3, but I don't see any reason to buy one right now if you already have a 360. If I had the money, I would probably enjoy checking out Blu-ray movies and messing around with Linux on the PS3 (which might make it worth the price), but I doubt the average gamer has those same interests. Maybe around Q1 or Q2 of next year, the PS3 will have a better library that might attract attention. A year from now, some of the bigger games should be hitting (MGS4, DMC4, R&C, etc.). Along with the better library, there should be (or better be) numerous improvements to the PS3, both with the hardware and software (hopefully the scaling issue is fixed, and some functionality is added to the PSN that actually uses some of the reserved resources). Maybe even a price drop around that time as well, although that will depend on the supply of PS3s and the demand for them (duh!).
To be honest, I had never heard of this guy before. Drunk David Jaffe tells Sony rep to f-off. Funny stuff at the Playboy mansion. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B8dl8rFB4Vw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B8dl8rFB4Vw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I've just started playing Resistence and does it get better? It seem pretty pedestrian thus far, only played it for a short while so far. Had been playing Gears on 360 and it seems to pale in comparison
LOL. Basically...yes, yes it does. Much better from everything I've heard, particularly in the last couple hours of the game. Check out some of the previous posts I've made in this thread. I posted some impressions that addressed this topic, plus some pics/vids from the later portions of the game (some of which look way better than the first couple of levels IMO...if nothing else, just due to the snow effect alone). BTW, it seems like PS1 games are now available on the PS Store: They cost $6 each. Here are the games and their sizes: Crash Bandicoot - 469MB Cool Boarders - 283MB Hot Shots Golf 2 - 157MB Syphon Filter - 385MB Tekken 2 - 535MB Right now, you can only play them on the PSP, but a future update (which should be available in December IIRC) will allow you to play them on the PS3. Another "WTF Sony?" issue, but at least they should get it fixed soon (hopefully). At least Sony seemed to get the price right (I'm looking at you Nintendo ). edit: Oh yeah, the JP PS Store actually has some other games, some of which might be more appealing (can't remember them off the top of my head). Technically, you could just create a JP account on your US PS3 and access the store, but you wouldn't be able to purchase items until Sony finally starts selling PS Store cards (unless you have a Japanese credit card...in which case, buy away).
