Not sure exactly what you're looking for. I don't know of any in-depth reviews offhand. Basically, the 360 right now is way better than the PS3. The PS3 has the potential (I love that word) to be better someday, but that day is not today (or even sometime soon I'm guessing). It certainly isn't worth the extra $100 or more right now (depending on how much you can get a 360). Of course, I'm talking from purely a gaming perspective. The PS3 is the cheapest (and best AFAIK) Blu-ray player, so if you're into that, the PS3 is definitely worth owning (especially once Sony fixes the screwups they made with a few issues). The Linux stuff is pretty nice too, but I don't think too many people really care about that (maybe later on when things get more interesting).
Here is a somewhat different take...Of course a system with a head start will have the better bigger more exciting gaming library. However, its hard to compare 1st gen PS3 games to Xbox360 games. To be fair, we should be comparing Resistance to a XBOX360 Launch game rather than GOW. If you compare games that these systems share (NBA 2k7, Madden, Marvel Alliance) then the PS3 outperforms the 360. I am not saying one thing is better, or anything. Simply adding a perspective.
Is this the demo that was in the demo stations, or a new build? Supposedly the demo stations did not do Motorstorm justice at all. That is one game that certainly looks the next-gen part, from at least everything that I've seen. That kinda proves RC's point, though. If someone is asking about what is worth their money right now. Like he says, you're really going to only pay for 'potential' at this point.
I'm not really a fan of comparing launch games to launch games. Best to see what both systems are doing right now, or even what they will be doing 6 months from now or so. Not much point in comparing Resistance to PDZ or anything like that IMO. I guess the PS3 does "win" in that regard, but I don't think it really matters much. Sony decided they were going to launch a year later than the 360. One of the things they'll have to deal with (as well as something PS3 owners will have to deal with) is a gaming library that is inferior to the 360s, at least for the immediate future.
New build. The demo stations used builds from like August IIRC, which, among other things, was limited to 12 vehicles IIRC. The PSN demo is one of the newers build, with 16 vehicles on a track I believe (plus other improvements of course). Some other things I wanted to add to the thread... "BruceLeeRoy" at the NeoGAF forums has uploaded some videos of Resistance: http://www.globalstudio.com/ps3/ I definitely recommend checking out the Snow video. I've seen people say how awesome the snow is, but you can't really tell how good it looks until you see it in motion. The videos are pretty big, so it might take a while to download. "one" over at the Beyond3D forums has translated some articles about the PS3's A/V capabilities: http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36188 About SACD... About Blu-ray and the PS3... Also, not that many people probably care about this, but there has been a bit of a shakeup with SCEI. Kaz Hirai (from "RIIIIIIDGE RACER" fame) is no longer part of SCEA; he's been promoted to President and Group COO of SCEI. Jack Tretton is now the CEO and President of SCEA. I think all he's really done was say that the KZ trailer from E3 2005 was gameplay.
it's a new build yeah, supposedly the one off the PSN is noticeably better but I haven't seen it myself
None taken...I figured this out myself the past couple days. I saw one go for $860 just the other day so I was kind of optomistic.
All best buys in Houston received 30+ today. I almost picked up another 60 gig but the manager was an a$$hole. Went to another BB and could've picked up a 20 gig but I dont think anyone wants that one so I left it there.
what's that mean? he wouldn't let you, as a random buyer, purchase just one of them? or does he know you or what?
He told me he wasn't going to sell them until tomorrow or the weekend because he wanted to confirm their not for an ad. I found out other Best Buys started to sell their shipment of PS3's in the morning. I waited 30 minutes and the store manager came to me again and told me "I already told you 20 minutes ago IM NOT GOING TO SELL THEM BLAH BLAH BLAH". He pretty much forced me and this other guy out of the store while we were waiting to purchase one. After we left and went to another Best Buy, that store called the one we were at and they told them they started selling them 5 minutes after we left. How crummy is that? I felt really bad for the guy who was with me and drove all the way across town to another Best Buy for nothing. He purchased over $3k worth of stuff that month from Best Buy and was a loyal BB customer too. While we were waiting at the Willowbrook BB an assistant manager came by while we were waiting and told us "I just unloaded the shipment and we received NO PS3's, just accessories" after the store manager told us they received a shipment. BB @ Willowbrook is a crock of horse .......
I stopped by Best Buy today, picking up some DVDs from in store pickup. Guy in the In Store Pickup area said they had just gotten 14 in...one guy had just gotten his replaced. Mysteriously, those 14 they had JUST received had disappeared, even though i was standing in line for a good 20 minutes and didn't see a single PS3 being sold. They're hoarding them for the Sunday ad.
Most likely yes. Are you looking for a 20 gig? Next time I see one I'll pick one up for you and sell it for whatever I paid for it if you reaaaally want a 20 gig.
my cousin called me here at work to tell me that fry's elctronics in greenspoint recieved a pallet or skid full of ps3 today
