A little defensive are we? Need to take everything with a grain of salt. The guy was clearly ego stroking and had some flair for the dramatic(MacB style), but his writing was good enough for me to believe some of his claims. Eventually in the thread he's sort of "outed" for being a former EGM reviewer. He goes on to say basically that it's still a close race right now, but likes what the 360 has done, and explains why he thinks Sony could fall to 2. There's other stuff in there, but that's the gist of it. I thought it was interesting. Kind of like a Popeye post.
Sorry, I just didn't know what I was looking for. I thought you were referring to his impressions about the PS3 and its games as interesting, and after reading the first few posts, I didn't really find his impressions all that great (again, the PS 2.5 kind of kills it). Seemed like normal GameFAQs stuff that I usually ignore. If the subject matter took a turn towards something else, I suppose that could have been interesting. I don't really feel like going through the 19 pages just see another person's take on who will win the "war" though. If he started saying more stuff like PS 2.5, then I probably wouldn't have gotten far anyway.
rc cola is it true that ps3 will only recognize 1 game disc and you cant borrows a friends game to play on your console???
I don't understand how anyone would pay 3000 for a PS3, when you can get one in a couple of weeks off the shelf. Or at the very worst, by the end of the year. Talk about marketing... DD
It is probably just like the 360 situation last year. IIRC, 360s weren't in really good supply until around April (when you could just walk in and get one off the shelf easily). I'd hope Sony could meet supply better than that, but I'm having my doubts (especially since demand for the PS3 will probably be higher than the demand for the 360 last year). That said, $3000 is insane. I could maybe see $800-$1200 as being somewhat reasonable if you have to have one before April or whenever. But $3000? No way. BTW, I think there's supposed to be a firmware upgrade for the PS3 planned for the end of the month. Hopefully that will fix some of the issues going around.
Now this is more like it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...earch.dll?from=R40&satitle=280050635902&fvi=1
Only the preorder sales went over $2,500. After launch the prices fell to around $900-$1200 which isn't that bad imo. Same thing happened with the Wii. Preorder sales were fetching $700-$800 and they've dropped to $400ish. PS3 - 24k ebay listings Wii - 18k ebay listings Looks like more people bought the Wii to play rather than scalp (which is good). I estimate that Nintendo shipped around 1-1.25 million Wii's @ launch in America and sold out on day one.
That seems kind of high. I haven't seen any recent reports after the launch that may have updated info, but I think previous reports put Wii shipments at around 1M tops in the US (IIRC). I suppose they could have actually surpassed the target they set though...but I wouldn't doubt it if it was less than that either. Some people are speculating that Nintendo might have cut supply a bit to get that hype factor going just like the hype generated for the 360 and PS3 (though Sony and MS didn't really have a choice in those situations). Not quite sure if I buy that, but I guess we'll find out soon.
Not sure if they need a hype factor. Those Wii motes, with their personalized settings, can be trojan horses if things work out for Nintendo.
All my buddies keep coming over and playing the PS3 so I havent had much time to play around with things like emulators and linux yet. Resistance is way more fun and polished than I would have expected from a launch title. Madden looks pretty much identical to the xbox version however the first gang tackle I saw was pretty exciting. It actually impacts the gameplay too. The system itself is HUGE yet extremely quiet. There is NO noise. It does get a little uncomfortably hot. Even the area surrounding the system gets hot.

Whoa submitted early by accident... Anyways. The online network is straight forward and fast. The Taledaga blu-ray wasnt all that impressive. Maybe 1080p makes all the difference. The controllers are awesome. I love the light feel and the triggers. Im not sure why anyone would have complained about them. Ive been playing nonstop and the controllers still have 3 bars of life. The PS3 found my bluetooth phone although it couldnt establish a connection. My phone never establishes anything when phones try to connect to it. I really dont even know anything about the subject. However a bluetooth keyboard is a must have, I cant wait to buy one so I can browse the net from my coach. Just having the thing is fun. I bought games and the guy at BB looks at me like I am crazy. Everyone wants to talk about. Its fun. Im satisfied with the system. I love its potential for doing crazy out of the box things.
It might, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still somewhat unimpressive. I haven't checked out all the impressions on the movie, but I think most mirrored yours. As I said a while back, TN probably isn't the best movie to promote BR. Probably should have included Underworld or something...maybe Click...another movie that has Kate Beckinsale in HD. It's free, so I don't know why I'm complaining. I didn't really expect them to include any movie to be honest. Regarding Linux, if you haven't read about it so far, I think the first distros available on the PS3 won't be all that optimized. They're basically taking Linux that can run on PPC architecture and porting it over since it can run on the main PPC core in Cell. It won't use any of the SPUs though, so things might be a little slow. I believe YDL 5.0 will take advantage of the SPUs though. That might take a while to come out though (goes out to subscribers on the 25th IIRC, and is available on the public servers about a month later). Apparently they have MAME running on the PS3 in addition to the NES emulator I mentioned earlier. Maybe if they get hardcore enough, we'll have a PS2 software emulator that will give us BC enhancements before Sony offers it through a firmware upgrade (or something like that). PS1 emulator would be nice too, but I don't really care about that since it is hard to really improve PS1 games (not to mention I can already do this on my PC). Glad to see things working out for you Ziggy. I'm assuming you didn't run into any of the TV issues that were mentioned earlier. I think that brings the number of people giving us PS3 impressions to...um...2.
