Wish I were y'all. I'm stuck in this weekend for the first time in... well, awhile. I've got a test on Monday morning and, knowing me, it's best not to be around temptation this weekend.
I checked out Ebay prices earlier today (yesterday) and they were still pretty good. They really dropping that fast?
Dropped the BIN price to 1117.06 and suddenly I have interest! Got 2 messages in the past few minutes.
Hah, the buyer is in Houston...wants to meet at the Westin Galleria. I may consider it since he'd have to pay through Buy It Now right away. What can I do in terms of Proof for Paypal/Ebay, incase he tries to get a chargeback done?
hmm, that is pretty risky. seems like if you just give it to him there would be no way that ebay would believe you should he try and pull that. i would tell him to bring cash or a money order if he really wants it. on the other hand if he pays through paypal and has a houston address it could come in handy should you need to go and physically re-collect your money.
Yeah, I decided that the extra cash buys me security in more ways than one. Shipping only. If he accepts, and I get my money, I'll ship it tomorrow morning at 9am
Easiest way is to tell him he has to wait 14 days. Period. You'd be surprised at the scam artists out there. If he has a problem with it, tell him to cancel the paypal, and bring cash. For a small fee, i'll be the muscle.
Haha, I sent him a message a while ago saying I would only ship the thing, time to check my messages.
Most scalpers are being owned!! Just checked on ebay and alot of the auctions are ending with no bids. The ones that are, are only selling for around $1k-$1,500.
Yeah, it isn't looking good at the moment for some scalpers. I think some of them included extra things with the PS3 (bigger HDD, extra controller(s), game(s), etc.), and they're still only getting around that much for them. Some seem to be getting only a couple hundred dollars profit. BTW, Gamespot reviewed RR7 and did a better job of explaining it than I did earlier: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/ridgeracer7/review.html?sid=6162024 Spoiler 80 at Metacritic also. Guess I'll do a little run down of some of the good games to get for the PS3 based on Gamespot's reviews (with Metacritic scores when available): Resistance 8.6 (89) NHL 2K7 8.3 Call of Duty 3 8.2 (85) Tiger Woods 8.2 (81) NBA 2K7 8.2 Ridge Racer 7 8.0 (80) Madden 07 7.9 Tony Hawk's Project 8 7.3 (74) Games to avoid: Genji 6.4 (54) Untold Legends 6.0 (63) NBA 07 4.9 (65) Gundam 3.9 (40) So out of the 5 games exclusive to the PS3 (IOW, not available on the 360), only 2 of them are really any good (Resistance and RR7). Of course, RR7 is basically RR6.5, so there’s probably no point in buying a PS3 for it if you already played RR6 on the 360 (unless you're a big RR fan). Good thing for Sony that most reviewers see Resistance as a "killer app." Next month, the PS3 gets 4 more games with Fight Night Round 3, Blazing Angels, Full Auto 2, and Sonic. 2 (or 3 if you count BA) of them are exclusive, but based heavily on a previous version on the 360. I'd expect FN3 to be the only good one of the bunch, although Full Auto looks kind of fun in some aspects; the devs would have to fix a lot of things from the 360 version to make it any good though. The Japanese version of MotorStorm comes out at this time IIRC, so I suppose some people could import that, although the Japanese version does not have online play (the NA version being released in February will). Then in January, Oblivion, Rainbow Six Vegas, and College Hoops 2K7 will land on the PS3, all of which are basically ports of the 360 versions of each game that were released much earlier. So yeah, as I said earlier, assuming you have a 360, there won't be much point in getting a PS3 until early next year sometime (from a games perspective anyway...Blu-ray movies and Linux might be enough to want one now I suppose).
yup the window of opportunity for big money closed yesterday afternoon. prices have been plummeting since then. i'm just glad i sold mine when i did.
My plan to open and play my system is going to have to wait. The hardware issues combined with the HD issues are really scaring me (the HD ones especially) so I am going to wait for Sony to address the problem. I think my TV is fine but I dont want to risk anything. Hopefully a software update solves all. The problem IMO is huge. Michigan vs OSU huge.
you 'think'? it's not hard to know whether the issue affects you or not, does your HDTV accept 720p sources?
If I'm understanding things right, that seems to be less of an issue than if your TV did not accept 720p. If your TV does not support 1080i, then you might have some problems watching Blu-ray movies in HD. Some TVs will upscale it fine (meaning that you probably won't notice anything wrong), while others will leave you with a movie in 480p. Basically, if your TV accepts 1080i but not 720p, your games will be screwed up, but your movies will play fine (in 1080i). If your TV accepts 720p but not 1080i, your games will play fine (in 720p), but your movies will be screwed up (unless your TV scaler makes it difficult to notice). I'm more concerned about the first situation than the second, although that's because I don't care that much about watching BR movies on the PS3. Then again, I haven't spent a penny on a PS3 or any BR movies yet. FWIW, here is what Sony is saying about additional shipments: http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2006/11/17/tech-sonyps3playstationshortage-061117.html Some FNR3 pics: Spoiler More here: http://www.play3-live.com/news-ps3/2509/15-nouveaux-screens-pour-fight-night-round-3.html Finally, looks like they got the NES emulators up and running on the PS3: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GIWwcGCI_nY"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GIWwcGCI_nY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> That didn't take long...although I guess it wouldn't be hard with all the emulators running on Linux.
I thought this was an interesting read. Mostly just read the stuff from the topic creator. surprising it was on gamefaqs. http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=927750&topic=31819675
What was some of the interesting stuff? I just kind of skimmed through some of the things the topic creator said in the first few pages, and then decided I should probably ignore him/her. For example: Not sure I'm following him/her here. The PS3 does recognize 1080i for sure AFAIK (BR movies can only play in 1080, either i or p right now). He/She might be describing some of the weird scaling issues that the PS3 is having, although it didn't quite sound like it. I know Resistance doesn't support 1080i, so that might be his/her problem (not sure if any other games support 1080i). 720p is probably better in most cases anyway. Not sure what he/she is talking about exactly when it comes to navigating the online store. If he/she was talking specifically about the whole download thing, then yeah, that sucks, and I'm not sure why Sony didn't let you do multiple things while downloading. FWIW though, the 360 was like this too when it launched. Hopefully Sony does get this fixed (at least before I buy one). If he/she was talking about the interface and things like that, then I don't know what to say. I haven't seen anyone complain about the interface being difficult to navigate (certainly doesn't look that way). I think some have even said it was better than the XBLM. I certainly remember Eurogamer saying that: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=68677&page=2 I haven't seen it, but I know the videos are pretty small for being in HD (using MP4 APC). Didn't see anything about Lair, but I did see impressions that the videos look "pretty damn great for such small file sizes." I didn't think much of Resistance's graphics at first, but it seems like Insomniac was just holding back on us or something. Some of the levels they didn't show prior to launch look amazing. Certainly not PS 2.5 (even the visuals they did show didn't look like that). For example: Spoiler The videos from the last 1UP show and some of the video reviews make it look really good too. I've read some impressions that say it might be the best looking FPS (that this particular person has ever played anyway). I don't really see many 360 titles that look much more next-gen than Resistance. Or, if the visuals in Resistance means that the PS3 is more like PS2.5, then the 360 is definitely more like Xbox 1.5 (or 180 if you prefer) too. Gears of War is pretty much the only game that is a clear notch above Resistance IMO...in fact, GOW is pretty much a clear notch above everything. That last statement the topic creator made kind of put me over. I didn't really feel like reading the rest if that person was just going to say stuff like that.
