Yeah, I meant to ask that earlier but forgot. Where are the impressions guys? I realize a lot of you have other "uses" for your PS3s, but it would be nice to see impressions from people who are actually playing them (assuming they exist). chow_yun_fat mentioned that RR7 sucks (in his opinion), and that his friend's PS3 is having some problems. I think that is about all the impressions I've read in this thread. There are more impressions about the Wii in the Wii thread, and it hasn't even launched yet. Maybe you guys can give out your PSN names too, so that you guys can put each other on the friends lists (note the plural form ). Some impressions about the PS3's Blu-ray playback capabilities would be nice too.
Now that I have more time, I'll give a better in depth review of RR7. First of all, the graphics are amazing on the PS3. We inserted FF12 after RR7 and the load times are indeed shorter (ps2 games on ps3). On FF12 you can notice a big difference in graphics and FF12 is one of the better games in that department for the PS2. What I did like, two player split screen, xevious and the graphics. What I didn't like. Controls. Your vehicle drifts completely side ways from left to right instantly. It's way too easy to drift continously and difficult to regain control with the d-pad. When you hit the walls, your car just constantly bounces off of it with no realistic feel. We didn't try too hard, but we couldn't spin out or crash. Everytime the vehicle took a jump, the car would land smooth after hanging in the air for a good three seconds. The maps didn't seem too fun and there was no option to add cpu opponents in vs mode. The game felt SLOW. This game felt rushed or maybe this is just the quality of all Namco titles. I wanted to try to go online with the PS3 and see what It could do, but I went home and did some work instead. The new L2/R2 triggers have a very nice feel and it was very easy for the PS3 to recognize extra controllers. I thought I wouldn't miss rumble, but I do. I was expecting a rumble everytime I hit the wall in RR7 but there was none. The interface seems pretty neat and it was loaded with a ton of options. I don't know how useful or useless they are because I didn't spend any time on the PS3 except playing the subpar RR7. After reading reviews online etc, I think the only title worth purchasing is Resistance, too bad I'm not interested in playing fps on consoles. My first impressions of the PS3 when I saw it was that it was HUGE. GOD SERIOUSLY...it's bigger than my vcr. I think the design is ugly. I wasn't a fan of it when I saw pictures of it and I still don't like it now. One more problem we had...was that we couldn't output anything higher than 480i on the composite cables. He purchased some hdmi cables later and he said he couldn't get it to work on 1080p. I read on neogaf another member is having this problem....maybe we're doing something wrong. THe games that are out for it right now, imo it's not worth purchasing a PS3 until next year. Motorstorm is the only game Im interested in playing so my PS3 might sit for a few months.
No, I'm probably going to wait until around the Summer of 2007 or so to try and get one. There will hopefully be a bunch of good/great games out by then (Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm, Lair, Warhawk, BioShock, Virtua Fighter 5, The Darkness, and maybe a few others), plus all the software and hardware kinks will hopefully be ironed out by then. My main reason for holding out (besides the price, and I'm not talking about eBay) might be because I still don't have a HDTV. I'm thinking about getting one in 6 months or so. I could probably get a decent one for cheap now (I was eyeing the TV Miguel mentioned a while back), but I'm in no big hurry to get one, especially with school taking up a lot of my time. People keep asking me this for some reason (including my parents), not that I have a problem with it. IIRC, I did say back at E3 that I wasn't going to get a PS3 at launch...what, did no one believe me?

LOL
Ah...just take it to Costco and say you forgot your receipt. They will give em a full refund. Or, so I'm told. That was pretty funny, though. I heard some rumblings in the background.
Have you ever played any of the previous RR games? That's basically how every one of them plays if I understood you right (seems to be the case from NeoGAF impressions too). It is an acquired taste, but it is a lot of fun if you get used to it (IMO). Definitely more of an arcadey racing game than a sim racing game though (which explains the drifting, which is basically the whole point of the game). Yeah, Resistance is the only game that is really worth buying IMO. Some of the 360 ports are good if you haven't played the 360 versions though (some are even a little better, such as Madden). I don't think any NBA 2K7 reviews have been put out yet, but I'd probably get that game too since I'm a basketball fan (and no other games seem THAT interesting). I'd probably give RR7 a shot too since I'm OK with the gameplay style in it. What resolutions does your/his TV support? I think it might be difficult to set the video up right via the PS3 settings, so that might be a possibility too. I haven't really looked into this much. I'm not sure what games support 1080p either (RR7 does FWIW). Have you checked out the MotorStorm demo yet? Or have you still not taken your PS3 online? I've read that some PS3 owners say the MotorStorm demo is the best game on the PS3 right now...which is both bad and good. I think if all you have is a PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a PS3 assuming you like Madden, NBA 2K7, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Call of Duty, etc., and might be interested in some of the future PS3 titles (and not the 360 for some reason). But if you have a 360, there's no point in getting one right now (unless you're a HUGE fan of Resistance or something). February/March will probably be the time to start taking the PS3 more seriously; at least in regards to the game library (assuming everything stays roughly on schedule). Thanks for the impressions.
Im gonna rest. Deliberate whether the 60GB quest is worth it. And by Sunday most likely Ill give some impressions... Wifi and silver trim woulda been sweet though.
Greed got the best of me, and I put up my 20 gig on ebay. Honestly besides Resistance, and maybe some of the sports titles, there's nothing on PS3 that interests me that much right now. Unlike the Wii, which has Zelda/Super Monkey Ball/Excite Truck. Virtual Console also will be pretty awesome, so I listed my 20 gig at a conservative 1500 Buy it Now . Sorry to disappoint guys. I'll see you all in 3 1/2 months when MLB 07 The Show comes out on PS3.
This proves once again that some people are stupid and others are smart enough to take advantage of people that are stupid.
Gamespot reviews NBA 2K7: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/sports/nba2k7/review.html?sid=6161984 Spoiler I don't feel like posting the reviews, but Gundam is getting some really bad reviews...like WOW bad. I'm not even sure if anyone had given it a 4 or higher (not counting those that got moneyhats from Namco-Bandai). I almost feel as though I should rent it when I get a PS3 just to see how bad it is.
Good luck. Link to auction? I would like to see how much you can fetch for it. After hearing about the problems with the first batch, I'm probally going to sell both my 60 gigs soon and wait a couple of months before I purchase another one.
Since you asked... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320050400122 I'd rather not rip off a fellow BBSer, there are plenty of other su....er....other people on ebay willing to pay ridiculous amounts, and I will let them.
I was about to get 1 at 6:25pm today from that link ..... Does anyone know for sure IF THEY WILL SHIP by Dec. 1st? They charged me for OVERNIGHT SHIPPING ALREADY. Luckyazn, they will ship it before December 1st. The demand for the 20 gig isn't that high. To me, I prefer a 20 gig because I wouldn't use the wifi or memory card slots. Migz - Do you think you can get $1,500? Not trying to rain on your parade, but the 60 gigs are dropping in price fast. Most auctions are ending around $2k or less now. Even the people on Craigslist are selling them for $1,500 now. I had a feeling this would happen....egay ruined it for us all when those prices went over $2,500 and everyone started to get greedy.
Yeah, I'm planning on dropping it to about 1000-1200 in the next hour when I get home. It's looking likely thatI may end up keeping it LOL I'm not hard up for the cash, it just would have been nice to be able to get some quick bucks out of it since I didn't necessarily want any of the games for it yet.
