all things aside i think this a really big game for UT. You would have to think there recruiting would fall off a bit after loosing 4 times in a row. And if they loose this time they have a chance at loosing again next year, by that time I would think all hell would break loose.
I'm utterly confused by what you mean by "if they lose this time, they have a chance at losing again next year." Ummm, since they play every year, doesn't it mean they have a chance of losing every year? Apart from the Texas WR corp being quite inferior next year when Roy, BJ and Sloan gone, what else does this year have to do with next year? I'm just wondering what you mean....I actually think there is less pressure to win this year for Texas. The oddsmakers have finally pitted OU as a favorite, OU is ranked higher in the polls, and OU is coming into this game with a 3 game winning streak in the series. I agree that this game is extremely important to Texas fans. But can you fire a coach for not being able to handle the best team in the country? I know there are things Texas can improve upon from a coaching perspective (Don't get me started on Greg Davis either), but where do you all think "beating an excellent OU team" ranks as far as Mack keeping his job?
personally, i think mack brown is a terrible coach. he's an awesome recruiter but when it comes to preparing a team to play, i think he's pretty bad. against arkansas he came unprepared and that's why we were beaten. i seriously think for texas to move on towards a natl championship, the whole coaching staff has got to go (esp. davis).
So that's what it takes to bring kelley out of lurk mode nowadays? (Hmm...can an administrator even be called a lurker? )
Go right ahead, it doesn't bother me. Besides I get called worse, I'm sure. er, I think Texas will lose, sorry guys.
If UT loses on Saturday, the Class of 2004 should receive an "ouwned" sticker on their diplomas. These losers have been bad luck since they stepped on the Forty Above comment after reading article in Texan about the Seniors wanting it.
The scenario: Vince Young breaks loose for a big gainer. There is no one in between him and the endzone. Teddy Lehman is 3 yards directly behind Young (no angle). Both are running at full speed. The question: Does Lehman catch Young?
Off topic, but have you guys heard this version of the Aggie War Hymn? It's awesome. http://www.blacklab2.com/texas/texas/Texas_Aggie_War_Hymn.mp3
Of course, you fool. Teddy could grab a Fletcher's corn dog, cotton candy, and a coke, eat it, go on the Ferris wheel, and run back to make the tackle.
of course the immortal tommie harris could do all of that while carrying lehman on his back , make time to catch roy williams, pose for an SI cover shoot, accept his newly renamed All Tommie Harris American Award, and still get back for the tackle.
Of course, I don't think it'd be that easy, but I must say, Teddy is one of the fastest mofos I've ever seen in person. Granted, I've never seen VY live. His highschool highlights are crazy though. From what I've seen, PT (Paul Thompson, our back-up QB) plays a lot like Vince. I think next year's game will be really interesting.
You know there is ONE FACTOR I think overlooked. When was the last time Texas was a dog of this magnitude in a game of this magnitude? I am thinking versus Nebraska in the 1st Big 12 championship. All the pressure is OU this time. OU has been by far the better team this year because of both trenches--not even close--but Texas does have a lot of talent too. Mix that talent with emotion and a loosened up coaching staff/players because no one expects them to win (remember James Brown 4th down pass on their own 30) and that is the kind of game OU could lose. sidenote: White has also been a much better and more steady than Mock. Mock may try hard, bleeds Texas and does seem to avoid enourmously stupid mistakes--but bless his heart, he just isn't that accurate, isn't that heady or visionary on the field [he makes way too many negative yardage plays when I think your average reacting college QB would sense to throw it away] and isn't that athletic--and this combination just won't be able to move the chains against good defenses. To end though, I will say one key if Texas has any chance to win. The defense cannot give up points easy. Defense or special teams might be able to get a touchdown, VY might be able to produce a score (TD, FG drive) per half despite his line losing to the OU front (I think more than this is unrealistic for VY or any other college QB I have seen this year), and Mock can produce a field goal try if he the special teams or defense sets him up at the OU 15 (where his couple sacks or negative runs where Mock tries to outrun OU's defense around the end only costs us 15 yards or so). In short, the Texas defense has got to keep OU to 17 or less I think to have much a chance, I don't think Texas can win an up and down the field, high scoring, game. Personally I do expect the defenses to have the upperhand--for sure OU, and hopefully, hopefully, UT as well. The only forumula I see for a Texas win is going to take a great 4 quarters defensive effort and just enough big plays from VY, Roy W or special teams to put up some points each half.
Damn that was funny! BTW TJ - I emailed back and forth with some dude that knows ( http://www.pulltabmedia.com/OUSucks/ ) the guy and he's not mentally challenged...he's just an epileptic. I believe him. It's an epi bracelet.
Three words that summed up the beauty of my freshman year at UT: STEELER ROLL LEFT (For those who don't know, that's the name of the play that UT ran vs. Nebraska in the first Big 12 Championship game when it was 4th and 1 at their own 30. Fun to remember Priest Holmes diving over the top of the line with Brown rolling left looking for Derek Lewis. (Lewis, right? I forget....) Good times.)
