I think Baqui summed it up pretty well also. I really don't know how we could possibly win if things stay the same. There's no reason to believe things will be different. If Vince is healthy, that's our only chance. Wait it's not, if Vince is healthy and he's prepared to read the different coverages and they let him pass downfield, then we have a chance.

I'm pretty much expecting us to lose, but hoping to win. I just hope we don't get embarrased, and if we lose, it's not the same way as Arkansas.

I do like how we're underdogs, but it doesn't mean a damn thing if the players aren't as prepared as necessary and if the coaches don't put them in the best position. Maybe we're saving some stuff, maybe we'll see a few more pages of the phonebook, maybe Davis, Reese, and Mack will surprise us, but I'm not confident enough to talk trash about it.

It was amazing how during the summer most hornfans seemed to expect us to lose.
Then the Arkansas game and many more expected us to lose to OU and be 3-3 afterwards.
I was thinking at that time we'd beat KSU, lose to OU and one of OSU/Tech and maybe meltdown against Aggy or Nebraska. Some things have changed (Playing Vince and some Def. changes), but now all of a sudden tons of hornfans are thinking we have a really good chance.

I hope it's not another letdown.

OK, I might get flamed from this, and I'm still recovering from the tar & feathering I'm taking on the Broncos board for saying that I thought that the Broncos & Chiefs are both probably a little overrated right now, but I've gotta ask something:

What has Vincent Young done to impress you guys so much? I only caught part of the UT - KSU game, and I will admit I was still sitting there muttering, "Baylor......Baylor......damn Barnett...", but Young didn't overly impress me the drive I saw. Granted, it could have been nerves, but IMO, you guys have a better shot with Mock in this year. Next year might be different, but that's just my humble opinion.

What drive did you see? The one with the 30 yd. run, or ten yard run, or 50 yard pass, or spin to avoid a safety, or the move he made on the run to throw to Roy? Did you see the way he moves, his nonchalant attitude to defensive pressure, or just his presence? Maybe getting a nasty ankle injury and coming back in to lead us to win?
Also, alot of us have seen him in HS absolutely dominate in the playoffs. Not just dominate on a good team, but be pretty much the whole team and put together ridiculous play after play.
I know HS has nothing to do with now, but nothing has been shown to say he can't do the same to a relative degree in college.

If he's healthy you'll find out soon enough. Maybe not against OU, but in the next few years you'll see...

Mock had 9 drives and produced 7 points and several 3 and outs.

Vince had 5 drives, we scored on two of them. One drive ended when Benson fumbled inside the 30. Another drive ended when Roy dropped a ball that hit him right in the numbers. It was 3rd and 18 and would have been a 30 yard gain. The last drive, we ran out the clock.

Vince also played on a gimpy ankle and saved us two points by scrambling out of the endzone.

Not saying he's John Elway, but he played better than Mock did on Saturday.

Count me as one of the few guys who does not see Mock as being that good. He could start for 60% of teams in the nation, but he should not be a starting QB for a national title contender.

I don't give a rat's @ss if VY doesn't know the entire playbook, he does more with the 2 plays he knows than Mock does with an entire playbook.

If anything, it's better than VY doesn't know the entire system, as that would make him think too much, as opposed to just playing. Something that wrecked Simms' career at UT.

It's football, not rocket science. UT has top-tier athletes, let them "out-athlete" the other team, not outsmart them.

    in two words: make plays.

i swear we'll run a play that looks like complete crap and then when it's over, you'll realize he just picked up 5 yards. a DE will get in and he'll just side step him as if it's nothing and not a 260 lb man trying to kill him. he eludes pressure and calmly tosses to roy. he's thrown two deep bombs, both have been completed. he ran for 35 on a play against ksu. he ran for 60 on a play against tulane.

in his first 11 drives, he had 9 td's and the other two were in the 4th against rice and we basically just ran the ball and were wasting time.

against ksu, he got us to the 3 before a fg, got us our game winning td and his other drives benson fumbled, roy dropped the easy 3rd down conversion, he got injured and then our last drive where we being conservative and then punted. that's pretty much the only drive out of 17 where you could say vince didn't make the necessary play to keep it going. i didn't wanna buy into the hype, but he made me a believer from game one. he's electic and he makes the crowd electric. he's just special.

now hopefully his ankle heals and he gives us a tiny little prayer against ou.

Vince has the ability to carry this team. He's already one of the best QBs in the nation....and HE'S ONLY A FRESHMAN!

Mack Brown has yet to beat a Bob Stoops coached team, right? So, I am not going to pick Texas to win this one.

Also, I know you guys like Vincent Young and he is a special player, but even if he played the whole game, I don't think it is a *given* that Texas wins. OU has a pretty stout defense and I think they could stop him more than anyone else.

Regardless, it is going to be OU against Florida State again for the NC this season.

I think he beat them his first year with Ricky Williams, he's 1-3.

Not true. In '99, Stoops' first season, the Horns rallied back from 17-0 thanks to some gutsy running by Hodges Mitchell, and some awesome plays by Major and Cavil.

Actually, we beat a John Blake coached OU squad 34-3 in '98, and beat them 38-28 in '99. So Mack is actually 2-3.

My heart tells me Horns 27-21. My brain tells me ou 35-20.

I read in a previous thread that when the Horns were looking for a coach, Stoops called and said he would be interested. UT told him he wasn't ready, or something to that effect.

Any truth to this or is it just an urban myth?

Yeah, that's right. It's amazing to me how you heard all of that "Mack brown can't beat oklahoma, blah blah blah talk" last year when he was 2-2 against him. I guess getting your ass kicked like in 2000 will make that happen.

Clarett's judgment might cut short his time in Austin, though...

Total myth. Stoops was never in the running for the HC job. It was always between Gary Barnett and Mack Brown, with Barnett being the leading candidate. However, DKR was so impressed with Mack that he recommended him for hire to DeLoss Dodds.

As far as Stoops goes, Mack did contact him about being his DC. However, he was not interested, as it's a lateral move from UF to UT. The next season, Stoops was offered the HC job by Iowa, but was waiting on the OU that week. OU offered him the job, and the rest is history.

I think the Sooners will win, but I am getting sick and tired of the damn Sooners...

Texas has to play on their game and I don't think Mock is the guy...VYoung is hurt, so I don't think we'll win...

I don't think anyone is saying it's a given we'd win if Vince is healthy, we'd just have a much, much better chance.

I think Vince would probably stay two more years, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Cedric will probably leave early even though he isn't all that, but it's been shown that many of our top players stay all four years (Roy, Ricky, Nate, BJ, Sloan) He wanted to redshirt to learn the system, I'd think he'd want to make sure he's ready before thinking about the NFL.

I always root for my beloved alma mater to do well, but IMHO they still have a way to go before they can beat OU.

    OU - 28
    UT - 17
