Chet would be great in this offense and bring the interior defense we've been sadly lacking, if we're picking that high
Yes, you're exactly right. It isn't fair or even realistic to think that he can replicate the game he had last night again. Just like it isn't realistic to expect him to go out and be a threat to score 50. In fact, it wasn't his stat line that impressed me initially. He's had other good stat games albeit that weren't quite this good, but even before I started boxscore watching I was impressed by what I was seeing. He was playing with an actual pace to his game for the majority of the time. He was aggressively trying to take guys off the dribble and get to the basket rather than what he did at the end of the game with the dribble dribble dribble nonsense where he never goes anywhere and usually ends up settling for a stepback that he shoots with terrible efficiency. Those are the kind of plays that make me not believe in him, but he had very few of those last night. I can live with a few of those as long as he's not doing that crap all game and being overly reliant on shooting jumpers when he has the ability to do more. I harped on his assists being of the empty variety as stat accumulator due to the fact that he had the ball so much. Last night he MADE PLAYS. I want to see him make plays against a real NBA team though. And not be an idiot. It's hard to rely on him knowing what we know.
I just don't see it long term. Especially at pg. He is a very talented player but I just want to build a team that he isn't on. Same for Wood, Tate and Matthews Build around Green Sengun Christopher KMJ Schroeder (as backup pg/vet presence) Garuba 2022 pick Brooklyn pick (either home run shot OR big backup 5 IE Mark Williams 2023 pick (maybe trading for high level all star to speed up process.) By 2023-2024 season we should be aimimg to be .500 or better.
Super impressive game by KPJ last night, something to build on but you have to consider the level of competition. Still, it's obvious that he's the PG of at least the near future. Between KPJ, Sengun, and Green it's a solid core of young talent for the future. They just need to dump Wood, Gordon, and Schroder so that they aren't in the way going forward. It's a LOT more fun letting the young guys run things.....and they all seem to play better without being forced to defer to selfish vets. Also, I low key want to dump Tate. I like him in theory, but I'd MUCH rather KJ Martin have literally all of his minutes playing the SF and have a real PF and C.
I been waiting to replace Tate with Jovic from this draft. 6'10 sf with some playmaking ability and decent 3 point%
I think KPJ gets bored at times and tries to do fancy stuff because of that......more than likely the game has come very easy to him his entire life, the key will be now that he is also facing other similar quality bball players, will he put in the time and work to rise above. He needs to work on his handles a bit. He needs to stop fading on drives and take on contact (drawing fouls is important). He needs to focus on his FTs....and someone needs to point out that he is an ELITE 3pt shooter on catch and shoots.....and a below average one on dribble ups.... DD
I feel like I be in here hyping KPJ up more than the people who believe in him and think he’s actually the point guard of the future. I don’t hate KPJ, I just hate watching bad basketball and I hate his immaturity. It’s not even a stats thing. Last night he played in a way I envision Jaden Ivey would a great the majority of the game and that excited me. I just hope he can replicate the way he played against a good team and do so consistently while not being a knucklehead.m Aggressive attacking style. Getting to the backet. Not settling. Pushing tempo. Finding the open man.
Exactly. Sengun is going to put on 15 lbs of upper body strength and get to about 35% on 3’s. He is our future Center on defense. We don’t need a Duren or Ayton, we need a Jabari or Chet type. Even an Aaron Gordon would be an excellent fit next to Sengun. I don’t believe we will be successful tanking next year, unless it is a deliberate strategy or Silas is really just the worst defensive coach ever.
Nobody on this team actually elevates us to winning, yet you got an entire thread proclaiming Green has it all figured out. This is not about who should play over who or who should play what. Why does Green get to dictate who should play at what position anyway him playing the 2 has not contributed to us winning since that is the criteria you are using? Maybe KPJ should start at the 2 since his defense is so much better and Green should be the 6th man since we are creating hypotheticals. its just crazy how so many people are trying to pigeonhole KPJ just let it all play out.
You know what? I'm starting to trust this organization a lot more. I'm going to stop jumping to as many conclusions. I think there is a plan and I hope it pans out. I think he could be a building block. He's only 21, he is younger than some rookies that will be coming into the NBA next year. Maybe he won't be a building block, maybe he will. He's had his ups and downs but the team has invested a lot into his growth and if the team deems that he's worth keeping around, they know more than us. If the teams wants him around long term, I hope they can get him at a reduced rate this offseason something like a 4/60 extension and roll the dice on a moveable contract or at worst manageable contract if something goes topsy-turvy.
I think these are all valid points. My primary concern with KPJ is every time he strings together enough good games in a row where I’m like, “yep, he’s part of the core. Let’s go baby!” he soon turns around and has a terrible game or three where he is emotionally checked out, doesn’t try, loafs around, and is an immature jerk to his coaches and teammates, occasionally leaving the floor (or arena). Let’s say KPJ continues to get better at basketball, and becomes an important part of a good Rockets team. That makes it even worse that he is so unstable and unreliable. His issue isn’t that sometimes he behaves like a 20 year old, his issue is that sometimes he behaves like a 3 year old. Despite being really good at basketball, I believe the guy has a screw loose and the Rockets should be scared of putting themselves in a position from a contract or team construction standpoint where they are competing and need to count on him.
just have to trust the organization has a better feel for what’s really going on than us. I’m to the point now where I’m rooting for him but trust the FO to make the right call.
