if they give KPJr another year at PG, then they’re both clueless…move him to 6th man and find an actual PG that can run the team this summer, and let’s stop wasting our time with this KPJr at PG experiment…my hypothesis and conclusion for this experiment is that he sucks at PG
Unless stone is using KPJ to tank, I really don’t think he would’ve gone through the trouble of publicly telling Wall, who he pays $40mil a year, for a trouble making talented player. Also risking greens development by not playing with a real point guard I really think stone sees KPJ/green as top backcourt with two above average combo guards who are well sized snd very young. Stone would’ve started KPJ at the 3 and Wall at the point if he didn’t if he didn’t see KPJ as a future piece
Kpj should b a secondary ball handler or a sixth man. He is not it at point guard. Unless our plan is trying to create another "harden" type pg out of kpj, we need one that actually has playmaking skills. Not surprised boobythegreat always has to spin anything folks say back to green.
Two really good attacks last night that had me jumping out of my seat. If he went to the basket more and used his size better to finish through contact, he’d be so much better, but he’s in love with shooting jumpers. Although very athletic I don’t think his initial first step is elite so it’s difficult for him to blow by his defender in isolation situations. I think this is why he sometimes over-dribbles as he’s trying to create an advantage. Seems like he does better when we let him operate in the pick and roll and he can use his advanced dribbles to get guys off balance, and snake his way to the basket. Maybe more pick and roll for him? I think I read something that he’s not super efficient yet at it, but this seems to be a skill he has the tools to excel in. This along with his development as a knockdown spot up shooter have me optimistic in him as a player if the coaching staff starts utilizing him in ways that play more to his strengths. @HP3
I'm hoping that Stone is using KPJ as a PG to tank and/or to see if he can develop the skills needed to be a secondary ball handler/backup guard.
I thought last night KPJ deferred to Jalen to run the offense more than usual. What would also help, not subbing out and subbing in KPJ and Green at the same time. Tired of hearing Ackerman say : "Line change"
Porter and Green has improved a lot this year and I can see this young backcourt both averaging 20 points a game next year. I believe we will get either Holmgren or Jabari and we need to trade Wood and Tate but we need a veteran in the starting lineup….what about Wall playing with the guys because now he will not hinder their growth now…..Porter is ready just need to stop getting sick or hurt….and play.
Where would kpj go if wall starts? The reason y we sat wall in the first place was for kpj to play/start and learn
Kevin Porter Jr. has a point to make on his future with Rockets https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...er-Jr-has-a-point-to-make-on-his-17014092.php I bolded the quotes from Silas and KPJ I found most interesting.
There's no way in hell they pass on a prospect like Ivey because of Porter. If they do their priorities are screwed
I wouldn’t be so sure. They seem very invested in KPJ. I hope it’s just him as a player in general and as a person rather than being tethered to the idea of him having to play point guard. It would be crazy if they weren’t interested in upgrading that position when considering the fact that he is quite literally a bottom 3 starting point guard in the NBA right now. The list is very small of teams that I think would consider him to be an upgrade over what they have and even smaller of those that would actually make a trade. For example he’s better than rookie Jalen Suggs, but we couldn’t get Suggs for him.
As I said in the other thread, The absolute last thing the Rockets need is more guards to get buried on the depth chart. If the Rockets use both first round picks, they pretty much have to be used on either forwards or centers. Between Green, KPJ, Christopher, Mathews, and Nix you already have more than enough without even considering that you'll also possibly still have Wall and Gordon on the roster. If you end up with #3 or #4 and you can trade up for Chet or Jabari, you do it. Otherwise you probably take Banchero. The Rockets simply have too many guards on the team already to blow a pick by drafting yet another one who would be just another version of what they already have.
I don't think we are that invested in KPJ, it's just a matter of timing : he's on a great rookie contract while we are rebuilding.
KPJ is talented enough to be 6th man of the year one day, but he can’t be the rockets’ starting point guard.
